Ozzy Osbourne - we shouldn't speak ill of the dead but has his domestic abuse and serial infidelity been glossed over in all the eulogies?

Maybe because he was a rocker firm the 70s but it seems Ozzy's real character flaws have been warped into a 'charismatic hell raiser ' image to be admired.

In reality should we also be critical about his actions and views?

@Goldenbear or killing pets?

MarvellousMonsters · 25/07/2025 20:39

Yep, I’m finding the public mourning for him a bit grim really. He wasn’t a model citizen, and did some horrible stuff, but all of it seems to have been overwritten by the ‘funny wobbly old man’ on the reality show.

yuck

BlankBlankBlank14 · 25/07/2025 20:45

MyHeartyCoralSnail · 25/07/2025 20:26

What do you know about him to judge whether he changed or not. Do you not believe in forgiveness if someone changes their ways. Do think a 70 year old should still be judged for mistakes they made in their late 20s/early thirties. What’s the point in people trying to change for the better?

As a matter of interest what level of interest did you have in Oxzy and Black Sabbath before his death?

No I don’t believe in forgiveness for vile animal cruelty and domestic abuse, how many more times do I have to say that!

No interest whatsoever in his music, because his vile behaviour overrides that.

Yes, absolutely, the poor pets.

The reality show was really depressing if you are referencing the one in the 00s, I always associate it with not going out to socialise and having nothing else to watch.

Well, I guess we will have to agree to disagree over our view of the ability of people to change for the better and the benefits of forgiveness within society for those who change. There’s not a lot left to be said. We both have very different views.

Late joiner? Late to what exactly?

And I’m not attacking you, I’m attacking your strangely empassioned arguments and passive aggressive insults 🙄

If you are so bored why are you posting sooooo many times?

So a bunch of mumsnetters have a better view🤣

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣, pissing myself, you are such a howl.

rustlerwaiter · 25/07/2025 21:57

Everyone is a package though right? Some people will see more good than bad in him, others will see more bad than good.

He did a lot of good things. He did a lot of bad things.

It's not a black and white situation. Very few people are totally good or totally bad. Absolutely within anyone's rights to stand up and say no I don't agree with this portrayal, whichever that is.

notnorman · 25/07/2025 21:58

ive been reading about him today, on the back of this thread, and have decided he was a massive twat

lemonraspberry · 26/07/2025 00:11

Goldenbear · 25/07/2025 20:33

Surely there is a scale of wrongness though, drugs and affairs are not on the same level as domestic violence?

Who knows what goes on behind closed doors. It is not for me to judge. Sharon Osborne made her choice- she could have walked but instead she stayed with him for 40 years. he stayed with her when she had colon cancer.

crumblingschools · 26/07/2025 00:24

@lemonraspberry and what about the pets who didn’t have any say in what happened to them? You don’t judge that? God hope you don’t have any animals if you don’t judge that

Velmy · 26/07/2025 03:48

DBSFstupid · 23/07/2025 22:13

Not just this.
Many years ago I was watching 'At home with the Osborne's on channel 4. I remember it clearly. The son broke the tiny Dogs neck whilst sitting on the sofa. He did it very quickly and almost as a joke. The camera abruptly panned elsewhere. Later they tried to brush it over, ie it was a joke blah blah blah. It didn't really happen blah blah blah.. It wasnt a joke. I saw it happen.
It was before SM was a thing.
I've never forgotten it and the asshole that did it.
He got away with it.

Yes, because if that happened, they'd have definitely left it in the edit wouldn't they? 🙄

mids2019 · 26/07/2025 07:08

Are we saying to young boys and girls here is a role model? We bean Ozzy's image onto city centre buildings and avoid the full picture of the man?

It seems like we have a view of 'well whatever happens behind closed doors is I'm or 'well done marriages are a bit tempestuous' or 'it's rock and roll man'. All are simply excused and I think this is an opportunity to make it clear you can't white wash history so easily or without consequence. I am glad the press have picked up on this in some quarters because by burying it means any obituary is a partial lie.

domestic abuse is incredibly common yet there seems to be a bit of an attitude that as Sharon was a feisty hard worldly woman it's all ok. Is it?

My FB is full of him at the moment. I couldn’t name one of his songs and never watched the Osbornes show. I have however watched some of the reels that have appeared on my FB since his death.
All I will say is that as far as I can see, anyway, Sharon had the patience of a bloody saint. And as usual, the bar for men is set so much lower.

How do you judge him for his more recent involvement with animal rights whe. He wasn’t on a psychotic state due to drug addiction? How do you judge his involvement in anti fur campaigns, advocacy against the declawing of cats and decrying of trophy hunters.? You don’t seem to be talking about those things

crumblingschools · 26/07/2025 07:20

@MyHeartyCoralSnail because that doesn’t make up for killing his pets

Seriously - if Peta can get over that and see the bigger picture so can I

PETA are just chasing the ££. They’d “get over” anything. I can’t see how shooting pets with a shotgun and biting the heads off animals is anything that anyone can “get over”. It’s not like he just forgot to feed his dog a couple of times.

crumblingschools · 26/07/2025 10:00

@lemonraspberry so if someone shot all your pets but then said you shouldn’t declaw cats you would think they were a wonderful person

Most pet owners don’t go round shooting all their pets for fun

Boomer55 · 26/07/2025 10:08

I’m not a fan of either of them, but losing a spouse is just awful, so I wish her well.
