What do you have for lunch when you work from home?

I need some inspiration!

I can't be arsed cooking anything.

I've been through all the sandwiches.

I was on a scones vibe for a while but that's definitely passed.

I'm not keen on soup.

I find pasta a bit heavy for lunchtimes.

I really can't stand soft cheese in any way, shape or form.

We don't really have left-overs from previous night's teas.

The last couple of weeks, I've been having bran flakes, pears and yoghurt which is nice but getting boring.

What's left? What do you have when you're working from home?

I sometimes get the 2 packs of cooked chicken breast from Lidl and have one of those with a couple of dry fried eggs and mushrooms or egg on toast. I like egg 😂

Laurmolonlabe · 24/07/2025 22:00

I used to rotate lunches- baked beans on toast, egg mayo on toast, two weetabix and whole milk, instant noodles with a few frozen mixed veg and a few prawns stirred in, and occasionally leftovers.

Lots of good inspiration here!
my go tos are
cheese and tomato sandwich with tons of mayo (sometimes add spring onion and avocado)

scrambled egg

rice noodles softened in boiling water with a bit of a stock cube, some frozen veg in the microwave, left over meat and soya sauce.

pizza wrap (tortilla wrap with smear of tomato puree, cheese, herb, ham etc folded in toaster)

a couple of times a week as a treat I have butternut ravioli and pesto

although today I had two custard tarts!!!

CountryGirlInTheCity · 24/07/2025 22:20

Usually something on toast, chicken salad or hummus and veggies, but if I want a treat I make my super-quick nachos:

I use a pasta bowl and sprinkle a layer of tortilla chips on the bottom, a few dollops of salsa and some grated cheese then another sprinkle of tortilla chips and repeat with the salsa and cheese, microwave for a minute or so until the cheese is melted. Yum!

Usually nothing. I have breakfast later and dinner earlier. If its a really early start I might have some toast around 2pm to keep me going.

Wolfpinkola · 24/07/2025 22:47

Avocado and feta is nice on toast. Or cheese breville, or omelette

Leedsfan247 · 25/07/2025 06:27

Agree with the Avocado (needs chilli) or Hummus which I know is boring but with some really nice crackers

autienotnaughty · 25/07/2025 06:50

Chicken/salmon or tuna salad. Jacket potato and cheese . Last nights curry/bolognaise reheated.

taxidriver · 25/07/2025 06:51

cheese on toast
humous and pitta

sashh · 25/07/2025 07:15

Ploughman's lunch?

Various egg dishes are quick.

Home made 'pot noodle' basically noodles, veg, seasoning and then you pour hot water over, put a lid on for about 10 mins then eat.

Cheese and crackers, maybe with some chutney.

Actually where I am the council will deliver meals on wheels to anyone who requests it.

Oh OP it's not good..

Doritos and salsa
Soup, sandwiches, Doritos & salsa
Chocolate, Doritos and salsa
Sandwiches, Doritos and Salsa..

You get the idea.

During the week, when I go into the office, homemade chicken and salad. I don't want this when I wfh. Wtaf.

I've no idea why I go off the rails so. I blame the beginning (for me at least) of wfh culture during Covid (and a two stone weight gain!). <sigh>

I just roasted some chick peas with spices, then had them with a fried egg and some yogurt mixed with chilli relish from the fridge.

Other days I usually have salad with a bit of protein.

notevencharging · 25/07/2025 17:21

I either make a broccoli, carrot, cranberry and apple salad and have it with some feta (I make enough for three days and it doesn’t go soggy as has no leaves in it) or roast a pile of Mediterranean veg and have it with hummus.

coxesorangepippin · 25/07/2025 17:25

Some of these are a bit holier than thou tbh

Where's the sausage egg and chips brigade?

Yes I like chickpeas etc but I do sometimes have two slices of toast, sausage, fried egg and beans

It's just food. OP asked a question that has many possible answers.

KeepcalmandtellthemtoFoff · 25/07/2025 17:56

Sandwich
cheese and crackers
jacket potato
salad
toast with boiled egg and avocafo
pasta with homemade sauce or jar sauce
supermarket pizza

Jamfirstest · 25/07/2025 18:00

A tin of tomato soup in the microwave with 2 soft boiled eggs in it and a load of salt and pepper and hot honey. Too much bread makes me feels sleepy.

OK I will admit to using 'just eat' for the odd burger and chips.

BlueUmbrellasSmiling · 28/07/2025 13:40

Finally got a decent airfryer and it's been a game changer. Will get the little pre-made quiches or a pasty of some kind to just quickly chuck in there.
