What do you have for lunch when you work from home?

I need some inspiration!

I can't be arsed cooking anything.

I've been through all the sandwiches.

I was on a scones vibe for a while but that's definitely passed.

I'm not keen on soup.

I find pasta a bit heavy for lunchtimes.

I really can't stand soft cheese in any way, shape or form.

We don't really have left-overs from previous night's teas.

The last couple of weeks, I've been having bran flakes, pears and yoghurt which is nice but getting boring.

What's left? What do you have when you're working from home?

I've eaten the same lunch every day for the last 20 odd years - two Ryvita's spread with peanut butter and a sprinkle of mixed seeds and a banana. No cooking, no mess and only one small plate and a knife to put into the dishwasher!

TomatoWildFlowers · 23/07/2025 20:37

I'm currently having half a melon, a nectarine, a banana, a few walnuts and a spoon of peanut butter.

FloraBotticelli · 23/07/2025 20:44

spanish tortilla omlette thing from sainos with salad

I love these too lately - spinach one. The cold picky bits section in Sainsbury’s is great for inspiration.

Or one of those tuna/chicken ready made sandwich fillers spread on crackers.

mug of tea and a ciggy.

honeyfox · 23/07/2025 20:48

Mainly some sort of a sandwich or a salad wrap with chicken or with something that can be heated in the oven like a veggie bean burger. The odd time then dinner leftovers or soup in the winter.

EleventyThree · 23/07/2025 20:50

I usually have tinned soup or microwave wholegrain rice, which I add various things to like vegetables, egg, nuts, kimchi, soy sauce, hot sauce... Very tasty

Ksjwvod · 23/07/2025 20:50

Baked sweet potato with crumbled feta on top, pumpkin seeds and salad leaves
Bagel with cheese and chutney
Ramen with miso soup and a hard boiled egg
Veggie sausages and beans

SecretNameforMN · 23/07/2025 20:54

Rip open a pack of mixed salad and have it with some piece of meat done in the airfryer.

GellerYeller · 23/07/2025 20:56

Crumpets
Pate on toast with chili jam or fruit chutney.
Cheese and crackers
Scone or iced fruit bun
Croissant with cheese and/or ham, done in the air fryer
Toasted tea cake
Tortillas with salsa, grated cheese and sour cream.
Pancakes with syrup/fruit if the kids are home.

I WFH most
days. For breakfast after nursery drop off i usually have homemade fruit smoothie. Mid morning some cheese and crackers. Lunch is usually homemade soup and a cheese toastie, avacado on toast with a salsa and poached egg or leftover from evening meal prev night.

Office days i usually just make a cheese sandwich and cut up fruit and take that in a pot and have a dried fruit bar as a snack.

I'm pregnant so very limited at the moment, but a banana butty or beans on toast has been doing the trick for me. You wouldn't like today's as I just had philadelphia on bread, like a sandwich but not put together (wild I know). Weetabix, coco pops, cheese on toast!

AnonSugar · 23/07/2025 21:02

I go through phases of lunch. At the moment it’s either a banana sandwich or cornflakes. 😆

In the winter I like an oven baked crusty roll and a cup a soup.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 23/07/2025 21:04

I prepare a sandwich first thing in the morning, then it's;
Biscuit
Biscuit
Buscuit
Pre-prepared sandwich
Apple
Crisps
Piece of cheese
Another piece of cheese.
Biscuit
Biscuit
Banana
Some undefined thing from the fridge.
Biscuit
Bag of Wotsits
Remnants of tub of coleslaw
Some Haribo

gingercat02 · 23/07/2025 21:08

Oh loads
Salads, eggs (boiled scrambled poached omelette), beans or spaghetti on toast, pate on toast, houmous and veg sticks or pittas, small jacket potato and cottage cheese and sweetcorn, tuna wraps, (i like soup)

RantzNotBantz · 23/07/2025 21:14

Something on toast ( beans / avocado / poached egg and spinach / tinned sardines / Lidl nitrite-free prosciutto/ whatever..)
Quick omelette
boiled egg…and toast
Toasted sandwich (cheese and something / tuna etc)
Last nights leftovers
Pumpernickel with cheese
Itsu pot noodles
Usually a lot of salad on the side.

In 20 years in the office I never had much for lunch beyond a sandwich or roll, so not really inclined to be much more adventurous at home.

Could do: felafel and humus in pitta
Samosas with chutney
Cornish pasty
Scoth egg and salad
Baked potato
Quiche

ArcticBells · 23/07/2025 21:16

Soup. Every lunchtime at home and lots of it - probably about 1.5 pints as it fills me up without being fattening. If nothing much in the fridge, then frozen peas snd split green peas or green lentils makes a great filling, low calorie, protein lunch

TerrierCollector · 23/07/2025 21:17

I’ve got a soup maker so I usually throw some. Veggies and pulses into it with some stock and herbs/spice and have that. It’s not really cooking because I literally just throw it all in and wait.

Failing that, hummus with veggies and pitta bread or avocado toast.

FoxglovesAndLupins · 23/07/2025 21:21

Today I had octopus balls with a super green salad (pre bought). The day before I had leftover sardine ragu and before that lentil casserole (also leftovers).

Oscarsmom71 · 23/07/2025 21:23

Chicken wrap made with Chicken goujons air fryer with lettuce and mayo

Mackrel and microwave rice (tinned mackrel)

Eggs on toast

Chicken salad

Bagel with salad and ham sometimes toasted

Lighttodark · 23/07/2025 21:27

Egg on toast
cheese toast
porridge with berries and nuts
Protein shake and fruit

OudAndRose · 23/07/2025 21:29

Often scrambled eggs with a bit of veg. Sometimes Ryvita with a tin of fish dumped on them unceremoniously (I like sardines in oil). Often a big salad with avocado or smoked salmon if I have it. I find it way healthier and cheaper to eat at home than when in the office.

SpottyAardvark · 23/07/2025 21:33

I have to be pretty disciplined about what I eat when I WFH. I am by inclination a grazer and it’s just too easy to put a slice in the toaster, or raid the fridge or biscuit tin & end up putting on weight.

I eat quite a lot of fruit, and I also keep a big bowl of chopped raw veggies in the fridge for snacking, usually dipped in low fat hummus. Lunches are often a sandwich, & sometimes leftovers from the previous night’s dinner. Greek salad is a summer favourite and I often have soup in winter.

TheChosenTwo · 23/07/2025 21:34

Either leftovers or a salad, loads of other choices too but essentially no bread at lunch when I’m wfh as the temptation to go and lie down during the rest of my lunch break is too strong and I’d fall asleep 😂😂

CarpetKnees · 23/07/2025 21:36

Mostly eggs.
Sometimes boiled egg and soldiers, sometimes scrambled, poached, omelette, or in a sandwich. So lots of variety with just a couple of humble eggs.

But also leftovers from the previous night's meal

Sandwiches - incl bacon or sausage as well as cold stuff

Soup

Beans / spag hoops on toast

Sardines on toast

dogsandbudgey · 23/07/2025 21:37

I would find it much easier eating at home. We have a set lunch time in work so there’s always a scramble for the toaster / microwave and I hate eating really messy food in front of people so it’s hard. I’d live on scrambled egg on toast if I worked from home I think but I’d be more experimental and not need to worry about food smells or other peoples allergies
