I want to teach my 10 and 13 year olds some ‘funny’ insults from back in the day - any others that need resurrecting??

I use the term “halfwit”a lot. Not sure if it’s gone out of fashion but it’s so appropriate much of the time.

snughugs · 19/07/2025 20:24

Schemie ( it was a derogatory term referring to someone who’s common and lives on a housing scheme).

He's a hatstand - I think this came from the phrase "not just a hatstand", but it works the other way too.

Charmless nerk. Often used by Norman Stanley Fletcher (played by Ronnie Barker) on Porridge. 😜

Boffin/boff

That's the opposite of an insult, though, isn't it - calling somebody very intelligent?!

When said with the appropriate level of disdain, piss-taking and/or eye roll, it was definitely an insult at school in the 90s/00s!

Boffin was often used as a school insult, like “teacher’s pet”.

Nitwit is another good one.

Twat - where I grew up, it was considered a mild term of abuse. Maybe not one to teach the young ‘uns though!
