Twerp
Berk

I want to teach my 10 and 13 year olds some ‘funny’ insults from back in the day - any others that need resurrecting??

OP posts:

Face like a wet weekend
Face like a slapped arse
Face only a mother could love
Face you deserve

Fluffyblackcat7 · 19/07/2025 23:34

Twit is still used in my family as a mild insult when you've done something silly.

I heard Muppet a lot at school.

I always liked Eejit.

Plonker is generally reserved for a greater degree of idiocy.

Never knew the origin of Berk. Thank you PP. Noted.

So tight he wouldn't give you the steam off his piss...

I wouldn't kick him out of bed for eating crisps..

Couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery.

She could smoke in the rain
(Someone with a big nose)

Isn't "wouldn't kick him out of bed..." a compliment? Ie he's so hot I would put up with crisp crumbs on the sheets.

Thejackrussellsrule · 19/07/2025 23:37

Twit and wally.
My mum started to combine the 2 and refer to people as twats, had to stop that one!

Port1aCastis · 19/07/2025 23:37

All used by my Gran
Knob head
A face like a pissed up pilchard
Tuss
Tinnie
You're a whidden with a head full of hay.

DH is fond of "You tulip!" when one of the children has done something a bit dopey, as a gentle insult.

Tube- late 80s/early 90s. Mild insult.

Dose- same meaning as a melt, "Oh, she's an absolute dose. You couldn't listen to her. "

Permanently out to lunch
Not quite at the races

Bent as a nine bob note (corrupt, untrustworthy)

An eye like a travelling rat (nosey , judgemental)...such a person is also likely to be "pass remarkable"

BlueEyedBogWitch · 19/07/2025 23:46

Shitehawk.
Face like a bag of grommets.
Face like a welder’s bench.
I’m not saying s/he’s ugly, but s/he could stop in.
Tight as a duck’s arse.
Rough as a badger’s arse.
Rough as a robber’s dog.

Littlestmoo · 19/07/2025 23:46

‘Couldn’t catch a pig in a ginnel’ is one of my favourites

JudgeJ · 19/07/2025 23:47

BarmyFotheringay · 19/07/2025 23:31

Yes, that always sounds better when said in German - Schweinhund.

The mildest words can sound rude in German, when I was yelled at by a taxi driver in Gibraltar who'd cut me up I wound the window down, shook a fist and called out Schleswig Holstein, giving it numerous syllables, he was furious.

powershowerforanhour · 19/07/2025 23:48

Don't just stand there like a stunned mullet/ with two arms the wan length
(the first person isn't helping because they're too slow in the head to leap into action, the second because they're too lazy to help).

Wolfpinkola · 19/07/2025 23:48

Nikkynakkynoo · 19/07/2025 20:14

I'd look up the origin of berk before you teach them that one OP 😅

Berkeley Hunt ? 🤣

RenaissanceBaby · 19/07/2025 23:56

ProfYaffle · 19/07/2025 20:22

One of my Mum's "she's a face'd stand clogging" meaning the person in question could be hit in the face with a clog and wouldn't look any different.

😂

Littlestmoo · 19/07/2025 23:46

‘Couldn’t catch a pig in a ginnel’ is one of my favourites

Have heard that used when someone had bandy legs.

PeapodMcgee · 20/07/2025 00:10

Err, why are people falling over themselves to quote insults that they apparently think are "excellent", but are actually homophobic, disablist, racist, anti-semitic, sexist.. And only a few are objecting?

The thread isn't 'old insults that are offensive and have fallen out of fashion for good reason'

HangerLaneGyratorySystem · 20/07/2025 00:10

Haven't heard 9 bob note or arse with both hands in so many years. As if anyone would know what a 10 shilling note might be nowadays!
