Any Facebook experts out there ?

I am a complete Facebook novice. Set up an account with minimal information, got contacted to say I had contravened their rules ( didnt say how) and said my account would be inactive and I had X many days to appeal. I appealed straightaway ( but the appeal just consisted of me uploading my photo, nowhere for me to explain what I had done). Immediately contact to say I hadn’t satisfied the basis for an appeal, my account is now permanently inactive - tough.

I have no idea what I am supposed to have done. Ive googled and googled and cant see any way to contact anyone about it and just seem stuck. Any help or advice would be gratefully received.

What limited info did you put in?

TheEndlessNight · 16/07/2025 13:47

That's a scam message I get them on Instagram and Facebook about 10 times a day. Just delete and block it.

It’s not, I had it before when making an account and had to provide ID. It’s not a text as such it shows up when you try and login.

simsbustinoutmimi · 16/07/2025 13:53

I would set up another with lots of info and a photo (for now) but toggle the info to private. I’ve had this before and they need you to have a profile pic to compare your face against it when you sent a facial pic for appeal.

So many people make fake accounts with no photos and no info. FB do this to try and crack down on it.

It's not a scam.

OP - what information did you provide and did you ever use your account? Facebook are cracking down on fake accounts with fake information, especially ones which are never really used.

EssentialDecluttering · 16/07/2025 13:54

Yes, this happened to my DS, he only set it up for following local companies that might post job opportunities etc and groups related to his interests rather than posting anything himself and it thought he was a scammer, I think it was because he tried to add as little personal info as possible. He did get round it somehow but I can't remember how.

ACupFullOfCrazy · 16/07/2025 13:55

I have always had a Facebook account with a profile pic of a cat, I have never put on a photo of myself ever and never been blocked

It's not the profile picture that's the issue as such, it's the combination of no photo, minimal information and no posting. It flags up on their automated systems as dodgy.

It’s a fairly new thing they’re doing, I’d say the past year or so. You also probably have info on your fb and friends.

ACupFullOfCrazy · 16/07/2025 14:02

I never post though, just stay logged in to read the newsfeed

Sidebeforeself · 16/07/2025 14:32

I put hardly anything on, didnt upload a photo etc. But only because I wanted it to be live so I could go onto a local Facebook group to check something. Then I was going to go back and put more info on , but by then I’d already been blocked.

It’s not a scam - my account isn’t accessible.

@simsbustinoutmimi How do I do that? Surely they go by email and IP address?

It's a relatively new thing - old accounts with no suspicious activity probably won't get flagged, but new ones will be picked up by their automated systems.

No, they tend to ban any account with no/little info on it. If you sign up you’ll need to add more

Sidebeforeself · 16/07/2025 16:13

@simsbustinoutmimi Yes, that’s the problem. I can’t go in to add more because they have blocked me. I can’t set up a new account and I can’t see a way of communicating with them without an account! Anyone got any ideas? It’s becoming quite a problem because so many organisations use Facebook as their main communication channel

You can sign up if it has proper info on it and a photo. They may ask you to prove who you are again and it’s a lot easier to get into the account if they have a photo to compare your selfie to. It happened to me and I got in no problem.

Can’t you setup a new email address and use that to create a new FB account, this time with more personal info, add some friends etc? I can’t believe they check IP addresses but I could be wrong

They sometimes do but OP could set it up on a different device to begin with.

Why can't you set up a new account?

Sidebeforeself · 16/07/2025 16:47

Ive tried but it just says I have been blocked. I tried with my original email address and my spare one

Use a different email, and try making an account on private browsing or another device.

Yes, and set up another new email, don’t use one of the declined ones.

Sidebeforeself · 16/07/2025 16:50
