I'm UK grounded for the foreseeable future waiting on a minor operation so figured I'd maybe take a few uk city breaks :) solo probably.

I love pretty architecture.

Plenty of free time and no mobility issues.

I love London. I've technically done most Scottish cities. And Bristol. But happy to hear about everyones experiences.

Doidontimmm · 13/07/2025 15:44

London

in your shoes, return to London and just explore a different area

Its got to be York every time for me, lovely architecture, great shopping & lots to do and the people are lovely. We go every year and love it. Bath is a also lovely 😊

MirandaWest · 13/07/2025 15:48

I like York (but as we live 2 miles away from the centre it’s nice and easy to visit 😃)

OohhhhhBigStretch · 13/07/2025 15:50

i think Harrogate is lovely, probably nicer than York as it’s less crowded

Cheltenham

Bath

A random one is Darlington

I’m Irish and love Liverpool and Lincoln but London is one of my most favourite places on Earth.

BunnyRuddington · 13/07/2025 15:56

Chester

WaitedBlankey · 13/07/2025 15:58

Chester, Bath, Harrogate, York, Alnwick (for gardens and Barter Books) London

Edited to add - Cardiff, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Beaumaris on Anglesey because I belatedly realised you didn’t say England

DublinLaLaLa · 13/07/2025 15:59

Liverpool is great. I also like Manchester.

minnienono · 13/07/2025 16:00

Liverpool is fun, Yorkshire has some lovely towns and villages as well as York. Avoid Bath until October, it’s overrun with coach tours mostly American, Chinese and Japanese.

luckylavender · 13/07/2025 16:02

York, Harrogate, Manchester, Cardiff, Leeds, Oxford. Many more

LittlleMy · 13/07/2025 16:05

Bath, York, Haworth (village in case you’re like me a big Brontë fan!), Edinburgh, Bristol is worth a look in on way to Bath, Liverpool, Durham. These are the only ones I’ve been to and s can recommend 🙂

LlynTegid · 13/07/2025 16:08

There is a lot to do in Manchester, when my uncle moved there and I first went to visit, it surprised me.

Sodthesystem · 13/07/2025 16:09

Bath was always on the to-do list but I never had time with the Bristol visit.

York coming up lots it seems.

What does everyone suggest seeing/doing in the places they are recommending?

Norfolk Broads
Lavenham

P0d · 13/07/2025 16:10

Brighton, there is another side other than the pier and the hen dos

shellyleppard · 13/07/2025 16:11

Definitely York. Lots of places to explore, especially the city walls. Also do an open top bus tour and a river boat cruise. The van gogh exhibition is really good too if you like art

JupiterNorth · 13/07/2025 16:13

Wells - both the cathedral and the Bishops' Palace, as well as an amble around the city
Cambridge - lots of museums, punting, pubs, green spaces, evensong at one of the colleges

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/07/2025 16:14

We recently spent a few days in Exeter and loved it. Gorgeous cathedral, lots of beautiful old and interesting buildings in the centre, easy to walk around, easy to get to. The Royal Albert Memorial Museum was good (and free). We particularly liked St Nicholas Priory, the oldest building in Exeter, which is only open on certain days. The Quayside area is very attractive and there are good walks south of there by the river and the canal. Topsham nearby is very attractive.

WednesdaysChild50 · 13/07/2025 16:15

Cambridge
Windsor

ErnestClementine · 13/07/2025 16:19

Bury St Edmonds may not be a city but it has plenty to do for a day or two - history with the abbey, new shopping centre, lots of restaurants, lovely park areas.

I also like York but it always seems to be busy. Harrogate is lovely - very naice shops, cafes and restaurants.

Or for something different, hay on wye for book browsing or glastonbury for stocking up on crystals!
