The Hyde Park show by ELO has been cancelled in case anyone is going.

Oh no- someone told me they were going yesterday.

BollickyBill · 12/07/2025 16:04

Fuckity fuck....just heard. DH & DS flying over in the morn from Dublin. Only renewed annual multitrip insurance yesterday. Not sure if they'll cover flights. Almost €500 😢

rockstarshoes · 12/07/2025 16:04

I was going! 🙁

Rocknrollstar · 12/07/2025 16:10

Jeff Lynn has an infection and cannot perform

AdoraBell · 12/07/2025 16:12

Oh dear, that’s a shame.

putitovertherefornow · 12/07/2025 16:16

Oh what a shame for everyone, especially for those travelling long distances at great expense. In such hot weather too. And for JL of course, hope he is ok.

My adult dc is in tech rehearsals in a theatre in London today for a performance they are doing this evening, and everyone is flaked out already.

loost · 12/07/2025 16:16

I’m gutted. I was going. He’s been frail for months though, people were saying that during the American tour. He’s 77. This cancellation will be costing many millions, they won’t be doing it lightly and I imagine Jeff is devastated.

Pashazade · 12/07/2025 16:53

Apparently his hand got slammed in a door by a taxi driver, friend made his last concert in Manchester. She said he was looking very dodgy towards the end of the evening.

Bit more to it if you see the You Tube clips. But age catches up with us all

We were going. Half expected it.

Coming from Wales today, got to just after Cardiff heard the news, diverted to Abergavenny for a mooch around the shops.

Hope Jeff is ok, that's the main thing.

TheCrenchinglyMcQuaffenBrothers · 12/07/2025 16:59

We managed to see him in Birmingham on Saturday, and although it was an amazing experience, and he did make it through, he did look a bit lost. We put it down to not being able to hold his guitar due to the broken hand (probably for the first time ever on stage for him), so he didn’t seem to know what to do with his arms and hands. In hindsight I now think there was more to it, he said nothing would have kept him away from his home crowd and I can well imagine he has pushed himself to the limit as it is. I really hope he is going to be okay. The man is a genius, a gentleman and a legend. He really won’t have wanted it to have ended this way.

bruffin · 12/07/2025 17:02

I had gold circle tickets. I hope he is better soon.

ParmaViolletts · 12/07/2025 17:29

I wanted to go what a great shame

EssentialDecluttering · 12/07/2025 17:32

We were going but had been keeping an eye out for updates since the cancellation of the Manchester show so I had just checked the app, it has been posted there but no email yet.

BollickyBill · 12/07/2025 17:43

And our hotel is non refundable. So out about €650 😭

AgnesX · 12/07/2025 17:45

Such a shame. We saw ELO a few years ago and it was a great night. His backing singers were excellent.

EssentialDecluttering · 12/07/2025 17:47

Oh no @BollickyBill gutted for you.

Yes, we saw them in Birmingham. You may be right that he was struggling, we didn’t notice any difficulties detracting from the show, which was brilliant, but he did look a bit lost without his guitar, like he didn’t know what to do with his hands.

If it’s non refundable then still go, I’m sure you’ll find lots to do and have a fab time. There’s no out wasting the money completely: have fun

No, it definitely didn't detract from the show - it was still amazing. I'm a bit concerned for the poor guy though as they are saying there will be no rescheduling - ie they don't expect him to be able to do this again in future. Which is one reason why I had to get tickets when he said it was his farewell tour - I believed him! Not pulling an Elton. I did think that it would have been an amazing tribute if his band could have still gone ahead, they obviously are tight and well covered the guitar playing, and Iain Hornal could definitely have carried it off, the backing singers and musicians are all outstanding. Might be an insurance issue, if Jeff can't play maybe the insurers won't back it.

I'd go if it was me and DS but DH only in from a last minute work thing in Frankfurt so he doesn't want to go now. Can't say I blame him if it's not for what he wanted to go for.

Dandelionsand4leafclover · 12/07/2025 19:23

I was at the Wednesday night show in Manchester. Jeff look frail and couldnt play guitar due to a hand injury. About 3 or 4 songs from the end his timing was out, he missed a few intros and his voice was a bit out of tune. They brought a chair for him to sit on for the last couple of songs. He slumped in the chair as he tried to sing. Mr Blue Sky was the planned encore but he didn't leave the stage and so they just played it. The band sang most of Mr Blue Sky as Jeff looked absolutely knackered.

When we left the gig everybody was saying that the 2nd Manchester show should be cancelled. It should have been called off on Thursday morning.

Hope Jeff recovers and enjoys his retirement. Absolute musical legend.

bruffin · 12/07/2025 20:51

Decided to go to see Doobie Brothers at the O2 . I was looking forward to seeing them as well as Steve Winwood, got some cheap tickets through blue light.

I imagine there’s a good chance that the band had decided by then, but again I bet the venue can’t announce till the very last minute for insurance or purposes or something - I bet they’re under immense pressure to not officially cancel until there’s no possibility of an alternative

That’s not why he cancelled. He has been getting progressively more unwell over the course of his last few shows.
