Tooth removal recovery

Hi guys, I'm booked in to get my tooth removed on Tuesday, he’s also said he needs to divide the tooth into sections before removing it. I’m getting it done under local anaesthetic. I’m just very worried as it’s my sons nursery graduation the day after and I want to attend it and really be able to enjoy it as I’m so proud of him as he is autistic and I didn’t think he would ever get chance to do something like this as initially getting him to nursery in the past was difficult. Does anybody have any experience with something similar who can advise me what I’m going to be like the next day?
thanks in advance

I didn’t need painkillers. It was a bottom big molar

This makes me feel a bit better :)

I had this done and went back to work straight afterwards. Slightly uncomfortable the next day but no other issues.

Thankyou :)

Everyone I know who's had it done was fine the next day. My 86 yo mum was able to eat Nandos the day after. Some people get bruising around the mouth on their face though.
If you take pain relief and don't chew on that side there's no reason why you should feel incapacitated at all really.

I love that! Thanks so much! Hope she enjoyed her Nando’s :)

I had a tooth out yesterday on my lunch break and went back to work after. I couldn’t really talk well so cancelled some calls. Was out for dinner at night. I took 2 paracetamol when I got home from dentist and 2 before bed. Don’t need any today. I’m rinsing with salt water every 3 hours and straight after food

Thankyou so much :)

Perhaps a short course of cocodamol? Paracetamol ans codeine if you can't have anti inflammatories?

Thankyou :)

I had a wisdom and another tooth removed at our local hospital. It was easily the least painful extraction I've ever experienced. Very little blood loss and no after pain or issues.
O

Thankyou :)

Hers was upper molar near back also. Even though it was stubborn it only took 5 mins to get it out. But of course everyone's different.

I'm sure you'll be absolutely fine. Make sure you get some gauzes as there will be a bit of blood for the first couple hours. But my mum said it didn't hurt at all afterwards.

I also knew someone who had all 4 wisdoms out and was fine immediately afterwards!

So don't worry at all xx

I had the same tooth out at Xmas. Sectioned into 3 to make it easier to extract - not all at once where more force is needed. So less force= less pain = quicker recovery. Sectioning is a good thing.

InSpainTheRain · 11/07/2025 20:29

I was fine - I had it removed, came home and went to bed early with some paracetamol. Next morning I had to take a couple more pain killers, but it quickly wore off and it was fine.

FieldsOfPotatoes · 11/07/2025 20:31

I just had this done - had to have my jaw drilled in to yesterday. I am incapacitated today tbh.

Reggiebo · 11/07/2025 20:33

I had 5 out in one go. Local anaesthetic. My own fault for not going to the dentist for years . I was fine the next day. Lesson learnt. Now have regular check ups

OnTheBoardwalk · 11/07/2025 20:39

I had a lot of swelling with 2 wisdom teeth taken out but was annoying more than anything

if you use saltwater do not gargle, just swish it round your mouth gently.

codeine should help, keep yourself dosed to what you are allowed, do not let the time between run out, especially if you’re going to be doing a lot of talking

hope you have a great day

Why did they drill into your jaw bone ?

Thankyou so much, didn’t think of it like that, hopefully I’m ok the next day for my sons show :)

I had a top wisdom one out and was fine, didn’t need any painkillers

simsbustinoutmimi · 11/07/2025 21:46

depends. If it’s a complicated extraction you may be a bit sore and swollen but you should be fine to travel to watch you son.

InTheWindow · 11/07/2025 21:52

I had the same procedure, did take the next day off work as I have a fairly physical job but was fine to take the dog for a gentle walk and go and pick up DD from school later on. Don’t think I actually needed much pain relief day after, pain was actually a bit worse (but very manageable) a couple of days later.

The tooth wouldn’t come up despite splitting it. I was warned beforehand but seriously not prepared for the pain. I just managed to take the dogs for a walk and that was it for the entire day. One more hour until I can have more pain killers and I feel like crying

Omg hope you’re ok!! Sorry this happened to you wow!! Was it painful as he was doing it or just after? I’ll have to ask them to put me asleep if that happens surely

They numb you at the time but when it wears off after it can be incredibly painful. Dentist tried to take my tooth out yesterday and couldn’t do it either

FieldsOfPotatoes · 11/07/2025 22:39

Don’t worry you get numbed! I took painkillers when I got home (30 min drive) but when they wore off holy shit it was awful. Get some cocodamol! I’m not meant to have NSAIDs but I have to take some ibuprofen alongside paracetamol because I wasn’t organised enough.

Leighrj · 18/07/2025 21:54

I’m having my second molar out on my right side however my wisdom tooth hasn’t come through yet therefore I’ll be left with only one molar on my right side. I’m just worried as I have both molars and my wisdom tooth on my third side. Will my face be off balance etc if I have three molars on this side?

No. I have two molars missing one side and 3 on the other. Makes no difference to your facial structure

So you have both removed on one side and three still remaining on the other side?
