I think i already know the answer to this but want to confirm I guess.

Im so worried about DS going to secondary school. Im trying for a SEN school but what if he doesn't get in. He wont cope mentally or emotionally in a mainstream. Hes working at year 1 level has an ehcp and autism.

There's a part of me thinking about home education. But since I have learning difficulties myself. Im not sure i would be a suitable person to do that. And im thinking im likely to ruin his education. But I also don't want him emotionally and mentally damaged at a large mainstream school.

Im also worried I may isolate him.

I cant afford things like private tutors etc.

You don’t have to home educate, but that doesn’t mean you have to send DS to mainstream.

If you appeal quickly when the secondary school is in the EHCP, you will have the outcome before September of Y7.

If you don’t appeal quickly, it might not be heard before September of Y7, but you don’t have to home educate or send DS to mainstream for Y7 while you wait.

Forget about EOTAS/EOTIS, it isn’t relevant to your DS. I only mentioned it in response to a previous poster.

So will there be a new EHCP?

An EHCP naming the secondary placement will be issued by 15th Feb next year.

Right so basically a new ehcp with the named school? So they could write what they want to suit their agenda ?

It isn’t a new EHCP, it is the existing EHCP that is amended. But, yes, they sometimes amend based on what they want to happen rather than the actual child. This is why posters have said you will be able to appeal.

Thank you . And I can hopefully use the original ehcp plus the updates to say thibgs like how do you work out that he was year 1 level 6 months ago now hes suddenly year 3 ( for example )

You also need permission from the LA to home school an ehcp child , you'd need to prove you had a good enough curriculum for him

No. You need permission to home educate a child who attends a special school but you don’t need permission to home educate a child with an ECHP.
