What do you eat when you’ve made bad food choices and are way over calorie allowance but still starving?

As the thread title says.
I’ve had a chicken breast and a plate of salad for dinner. I want carbs.

Edited to clarify that the bad food choices were earlier in the day (chocolate/cake). I do not consider chicken breast and salad to be unhealthy

I wouldn’t want a chicken breast and salad for dinner!

Id have a bowl of pasta or a couple of slices of cheese on toast tbh as that’s what you’re craving and that would draw a line under it

Have a jacket potato and then be sensible tomorrow. What diet are you following?

popcornpower2025 · 07/07/2025 19:02

Honeslty if I go to bed hungry i sleep terribly and wake up starving so I would fuck off the calorie allowance for the day (within reason) and have a second dinner

Smartiepants79 · 07/07/2025 19:02

Umm is that all you’ve had? Chicken and salad? Unless you’ve stuffed the chicken with a mars bar and deep fried it k can’t see where the bad food choices are.
Eat whatever carbs you’d fancy

Makingpeace · 07/07/2025 19:02

A large drink of water to check I wasn't confusing hunger with thirst.

Poobs2022 · 07/07/2025 19:03

I'd probably opt for a bowl of porridge or Greek yoghurt, berries and granola or some egg on toast.

Keroppi · 07/07/2025 19:03

Eggs

Steelworks · 07/07/2025 19:03

Some cheese and an apple. Eat protein not carbs.

Makingpeace · 07/07/2025 19:03

And then probably some greek yog and fruit.

Naomival · 07/07/2025 19:03

Watermelon.

CantThinkOfAUsername57 · 07/07/2025 19:03

Just have some carbs with dinner and eat healthier the next day. Calories don’t just erase themselves when the clock strikes midnight

Chicken and salad is not a balanced meal. You’re probably binging on rubbish because you are over restricting. Your body needs fuel

frockandcrocs · 07/07/2025 19:03

I would just eat a solid meal with protein, fats and carbs. Cut my losses for that day and move on.
Otherwise I’d have chicken & salad, then a million snacks.

Bad days happen, you just have to move on and not use it as an excuse to give up.

Summerhillsquare · 07/07/2025 19:03

I am chomping on raw carrots as I type.

titchy · 07/07/2025 19:04

What’s wrong with chicken breast and salad? Confused Have a cup of tea. Give it half an hour and see if you’re still hungry. If you are have something high in protein to fill you up - couple of hard boiled eggs?

user1476613140 · 07/07/2025 19:06

Porridge oats with milk.

It’s not a balanced meal. Anyone who says that your body doesn’t need carbs is talking utter garbage and is probably a victim of toxic diet culture themselves.

Ummm the trying to eat a little less diet? Not cutting anything out just being a bit more aware

I’ve always been slim and never calorie counted. Always eaten whatever I want. I eat quite a lot compared to others and people comment on my large portion sizes. This has always worked for me, until I hit menopause. Now I’ve put on 5kg in a couple of months (not sure how long exactly as don’t weigh regularly but noticed I had a bigger tummy suddenly) and am realising I can no longer eat like I always have. I’m trying to eat to my TDEE or a couple of hundred below but I am very short so it’s pretty low to begin with and feels like there’s no wriggle room. Especially if I have a sandwich for lunch, a piece of birthday cake, and a bag of maltesers all on the same day.

A crumpet, it's some carbs, and they're not horrendous in terms of calories.

HelloMyNameIsElderSmurf · 07/07/2025 20:25

If I have a lunch like that it makes me absolutely famished at night, I think it’s a sugar crash. Have some carbs but wholewheat/with some protein. whole meal bread toast with a boiled egg, wheetabix and milk, Greek yogurt, berries, wheetabix crumbled into it? (I have this every morning cos I don’t like the texture of overnight oats).

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 07/07/2025 20:29

More lean meat, and a good helping of veg such as green beans would be good.
One thing I find very satisfying when I’m trying to keep off carbs, is two nearly hard boiled eggs, warm, mashed with a very little each of butter and mayonnaise.

Brokenclavicle653 · 07/07/2025 20:33

Next time have some unprocessed carbs that grow in the ground with your protein and salad, like some quinoa, new potatoes, sweet potatoes, or butter beans.

But tonight you could have an oat biscuit, with berries, some dates or some nuts and seeds, with a square of dark chocolates. Better to add it on your the end of your meal than snack later on.

FlatErica · 07/07/2025 20:33

Two scrambled eggs on toast, no butter.

Nicebush · 07/07/2025 20:34

I would forget about the calories and have two slices of toast with butter and two poached eggs.
