What do you eat when you’ve made bad food choices and are way over calorie allowance but still starving?

As the thread title says.
I’ve had a chicken breast and a plate of salad for dinner. I want carbs.

Edited to clarify that the bad food choices were earlier in the day (chocolate/cake). I do not consider chicken breast and salad to be unhealthy

Bag of hula hoops (small)

Thisshirtisonfire · 07/07/2025 20:34

Baked potato or porridge.
Very filling but relatively low calories. You won't want to snack any more after.

Greek yoghurt, chia seeds, flaked almonds and berries.

Ummm the trying to eat a little less diet? Not cutting anything out just being a bit more aware

I’ve always been slim and never calorie counted. Always eaten whatever I want. I eat quite a lot compared to others and people comment on my large portion sizes. This has always worked for me, until I hit menopause. Now I’ve put on 5kg in a couple of months (not sure how long exactly as don’t weigh regularly but noticed I had a bigger tummy suddenly) and am realising I can no longer eat like I always have. I’m trying to eat to my TDEE or a couple of hundred below but I am very short so it’s pretty low to begin with and feels like there’s no wriggle room. Especially if I have a sandwich for lunch, a piece of birthday cake, and a bag of maltesers all on the same day.

This is exactly what I’m doing at the moment for very similar reasons.

I’ve been having an apple and peanut butter as a not too calorific snack, and drinking so much water. Or a sugary tea and rich tea biscuit which also isn’t an insane amount of calories.

I’m trying to stick to 1500 calories but taking a view across the week - if I feel so hungry I can’t keep to 1500 I might go to say 1750 and try and cut an additional 50-75 calories over the next few days. I’m refusing to feel starving and instead using the limit to make better decisions (and mostly stop snacking our of boredom).

I'm doing Slimming World and have lost three stone so far. There's no calorie counting and there are many foods you can eat freely.

I'd have a jacket potato with beans if I were starving and wanted carbs. They're free on Slimming World.

Some sensible advice on here, thanks.

in case anyone is interested I had a small bowl of the shreddies I was craving and a bit of Greek yogurt afterwards. Seems to have done the trick 🤞

I wouldnt define anything as a 'bad food choice'. Just balance out over all, it doesnt have to be day by day

Have some chunks of cheese and some nuts, what about olives or something? Dates? Dried apricot?

GingerLiberalFeminist · 07/07/2025 21:42

Peanut butter on a rice cake or a banana. Healthier carbs to ease the craving!

BangersAndGnash · 07/07/2025 21:48

An Oatibix with semi skimmed

DilemmaDelilah · 08/07/2025 08:50

Probably a banana sandwich, just wholemeal bread and banana, no butter, if I was craving carbs. If I was very hungry then maybe some chunky soup or an egg on toast or something. The protein would help with the hunger. I do find that if I eat a lot of salad or non starchy veg or fruit my stomach tends to feel a bit acidic, which I can mistake for hunger. Sometimes a cup of hot skimmed milk with whatever your non-calorific flavour of choice can help with that. I use Bob skimmed milk - it contains additional protein which can also help to fill you up.

Uh, I’d just eat whatever I wanted. Chicken breast and leaves is not a meal 🙈
