Do things go missing in your house without a trace?

I don’t mean losing it as in putting it down and forgetting where but stuff actually just disappearing? I had a picture in a frame in my living room, saw it the other day and it’s completely vanished now. It’s not as if it’s something that gets moved around. Has this happened to you?

It happens loads with biscuits and ice cream.

I bought bourbons last week, no trace of them!

Not anymore - but we are an all female household now.

ninjahamster · 04/07/2025 15:04

Nope.

Utterlyconfusednow · 04/07/2025 15:05

Yes. There’s a huge hole somewhere with all my stuff.

Why is that different?

No, never

I’m Uber anally tidy organised though

TheChosenTwo · 04/07/2025 15:09

Just some of my clothes which mysteriously make their way into dd1’s room 😂

isitmeamithedrama · 04/07/2025 15:10

Yes. A bloody expensive watch it was in its box a few weeks ago, I don’t wear it, I live alone and now it’s gone. No where to be found and it’s annoying the life out of me

Flashout · 04/07/2025 15:10

My things used to disappear. Books I was enjoying, half read. Important parts of things I was working on. Keys from my bunch. But then I disappeared my now ex husband and it stopped. Funny, that.

Tarkan · 04/07/2025 15:10

Yep our marriage certificate and my passport are there. Got a copy of the certificate at least but I need to call the passport office. It’s expired but I can’t renew without cancelling it.

SummerInSun · 04/07/2025 15:11

No. If my DH or DC break something, they admit it and we decided whether to try to fix it or throw it away. If they absolutely hated one of my possessions they wouldn’t just remove it, we’d discuss it.

Have you see the episode of Modern Family where Mitch throws away a statue of Cam’s that he hates, and Cam gets the high school drama group round and stages an elaborate plot, pretending they are “troubled teens”, accuses them of stealing it to guilt Mitch into confessing? You could try that!

It’s so annoying!

Yes, and they're not always small things that you might just put down and forget, either. The latest one is a Turkish towel that I used to use for swimming.

Nannyfannybanny · 04/07/2025 15:33

It used to be teaspoons. Now it's the newly bought scissors..

ShesTheAlbatross · 04/07/2025 15:34

My DD’s bloody school socks. I think she must eat them.

outdooryone · 04/07/2025 15:35

Yes. Usually any money I think I have.

Blobbitymacblob · 04/07/2025 15:38

Yes. But I tell the Nisse that I need whatever it is back, and that they don’t need to think up a place I haven’t searched yet - out in the open will be just fine. My keys clattered down the stairs in front of me once probably falling out of my coat when I said this aloud so the dc don’t call me crazy anymore.

Blobbitymacblob · 04/07/2025 15:40

The house elves wear odd socks as clothes and turn teaspoons into extra wire hangers that tangle up in the wardrobe. You won’t get either of those back.

Iheartmysmart · 04/07/2025 15:43

Yep, happens to me a lot despite living on my own. Always silly things like a hairbrush or a lip balm, they vanish without a trace. I’m convinced it’s the ghost of my old dog who used to take great delight in taking random objects and hiding them in his bed. Which is quite comforting in a way.

Yes, I like that explanation ❤️

Meadowfinch · 04/07/2025 15:44

They did, until I dumped my ex.

Nothing has gone missing since 2017. Life is much easier now 🤗

coxesorangepippin · 04/07/2025 15:44

Yup, absolutely

Hedgesgalore · 04/07/2025 15:45

So often that Dh thinks there is a "room" where the things that go missing must all end up in.

NiMaithLiomDeLuain · 04/07/2025 15:46

Yes but I have a teen daughter.
