Vinted - mix-up what to do?

Lavendersquare · 02/07/2025 22:11

I sold a White stuff dress and accidentally packed up and sent a different WS dress, one I really like and didn’t want to sell. As soon as I realised I contacted the purchaser and explained what I’d done, said as soon as she gets it to raise a case and I’ll agree to a refund and free return so she can send it back. Once I’ve received the dress and the buyer gas their refund I will re-sell the dress they wanted.

I’ve attached screenshots and they think I’m a scammer, which I’m not.

Have I dealt with this correctly?

Is it worth the grief? How much was the dress?

GarlicMetre · 02/07/2025 22:15

Honestly? As you value your seller reputation, I think you should just cancel this sale and chalk it up to experience.

She isn't going to get the dress she wanted before her holiday anyway, you cannot fix this error.

bandaidsdontfixbulletholes1 · 02/07/2025 22:16

She sounds annoying & like she doesn’t understand Vinted very well - you just have to hope she posts it back. It doesn’t sound like she likes it and if you’ve offered to pay postage she can just put it in the inpost locker and be done with it. It’s the only way she’ll get her money back. I can see why she’s a bit annoyed though as looks like she wanted the other one within a certain timeframe which is unlikely you’ll make, and it IS annoying when people send you the wrong item (I’ve had it a few times now)

good luck, I hope you get it back.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 02/07/2025 22:17

I've been in exactly the same position as a buyer , I sent the item back but tbh it pissed me off.

HelloGreen · 02/07/2025 22:18

“I’ve spoken to my husband” 🙄🙄🙄

Lavendersquare · 02/07/2025 22:19

@GarlicMetre I’ve accidentally sent her a really nice dress that I wear regularly and cost around £70 the one she bought from me I sold for £5, so I definitely want my dress back.

I would send the correct dress asap, so she gets it for her holiday and just hope she's honest and sends you the mistake dress back. You fucked up here so you have to go above and beyond to recify your mess

That doesn’t matter to her though. All that matters to her is that her dress won’t arrive in time for her holiday.

You’re relying on her goodwill. There isn’t much else you can do.

simsbustinoutmimi · 02/07/2025 22:20

Just cancel the sale so she gets refunded and let it go.

I can see why she thinks it’s a scam- some sellers in your situation would pretend the buyer sent back a diff item (because it IS different to what’s on the listing) and then rip the buyer out of their money and product.

Lavendersquare · 02/07/2025 22:20

@DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen I agree this is a real pain, but if it was the other way round I’d try to help.

@HelloGreen if I’d sent the correct dress it probably wouldn’t have arrived in time either.

I think she’s nervous and you’re both upset by this mix up and the potential risk that you both might not get the dress that you want.

she has explained that she is new to vinted and not confident with technology but I don’t think your messages are particularly understanding to her or reassuring.

I would explain to her that vinted has a process for dealing with this type of issue. The ‘I have a problem’ button exists for situations such as this. The money may have been deducted from her account but it is currently still with vinted and that is to protect her as the buyer. So follow the vinted process is the best way to ensure both parties are protected. Apologise again for your error. But you are not a shop and mistake can happen.

good luck!

It's your fault you sent the wrong dress, totally up to her if she wants to return it or not.

Just read this. Unfortunately in her shoes she probably wants to keep the wrong product as it’s worth a lot more than five quid.

There is nothing you can do sadly. If she doesn’t want to return it then she doesn’t have to. You have 0 rights to getting it back even though you sent the wrong thing.

Of course you do, it's understandable. The facts are, though, you've sent it to a stranger who and she doesn't want it.

She's offered to send it back to you - which, imo, shows she doesn't understand Vinted systems. I'd say your best bet is to send her the dress she did want with a pre-paid label to return your sleeveless one. You'll lose about £10 all told.

Gymmum82 · 02/07/2025 22:25

You’re not going to see your dress again. Sorry. She sounds not very switched on. But you should have been more careful

OneSpoonyGreyWasp · 02/07/2025 22:25

She’s going on holiday it won’t get delivered and will end up coming back to you

Haribosweets · 02/07/2025 22:25

Ive been in this situation as a buyer. The seller re-listed it straight away but for a £1 which I bought. She ended up saying I could keep the wrong one too. Maybe relist the proper one now for her and she then sells your dress to you via vinted after holiday

bandaidsdontfixbulletholes1 · 02/07/2025 22:25

You’re lucky she doesn’t like the dress - if she works out it’s worth a lot more than the one she bought she, she might decide to keep it! (Or you’ll see it listed in a couple of weeks’ time!)

I don’t think she will send it back. IMO she’s probably realised now that it’s worth a lot more and decided to keep it for herself.

GarlicMetre · 02/07/2025 22:26

The Vinted system is obscure, slow and difficult to navigate. A seller has just cancelled an incorrect sale to me, as both our lives were getting eaten by Vinted's requirements and it was a tenner. I've promised to give the item to charity instead, as neither of us want it that much!

simsbustinoutmimi · 02/07/2025 22:27

OneSpoonyGreyWasp · 02/07/2025 22:25

She’s going on holiday it won’t get delivered and will end up coming back to you

This is only true if it’s being picked up at a locker or shop. If it’s home delivery Evri/yodel/Royal Mail will put it in a safe space or through letterbox as it’s a smallish parcel. If there is no safe space or letterbox the hub will hold it for just over two weeks if buyer wants to pickup from there and stick a card through the door.

shes also not going on holiday until the 6th and the item could be delivered from the 4th.

OP is the dress for home delivery or for collection?

Overthebow · 02/07/2025 22:29

Sorry op you’re relying on her goodwill to send it back, she doesn’t have to.

fashionqueen0123 · 02/07/2025 22:29

Sounds like you’ve sent it to a right pain in the backside buyer which is unlucky.
But hopefully it’s going to Inpost and it will get sent back to you . If not you’ll have to get her to follow the refund process. But how annoying she’s going away.

How did you manage to get a dress you wear packed up?! 🙈
