Vinted - mix-up what to do?

Lavendersquare · 02/07/2025 22:11

I sold a White stuff dress and accidentally packed up and sent a different WS dress, one I really like and didn’t want to sell. As soon as I realised I contacted the purchaser and explained what I’d done, said as soon as she gets it to raise a case and I’ll agree to a refund and free return so she can send it back. Once I’ve received the dress and the buyer gas their refund I will re-sell the dress they wanted.

I’ve attached screenshots and they think I’m a scammer, which I’m not.

Have I dealt with this correctly?

Maybe send the original dress to her next day delivery and pay for her to return the other one. I'd do it quickly rather than slowly as she may prefer this dress.

IButtleSir · 03/07/2025 07:15

How exactly do I send the correct dress? I don’t have her address, just a QR code that can’t be used a second time. If she gives me her address and I just post it Vinted will have no record that I actually sent her the right dress.

All of this is a consequence of your fuck up, so it's a risk you're going to have to take.

@GarlicMetre I’ve accidentally sent her a really nice dress that I wear regularly and cost around £70 the one she bought from me I sold for £5, so I definitely want my dress back.

I’d cancel the sale to refund her, ask for her address and send her the correct dress with 48 hour postage so she hopefully gets it in time. Once she realises you aren’t a scammer she’ll hopefully send your dress back. You’ll be out of pocket but it’s your mistake and if you really want the dress back and still won’t equal the replacement of the dress.

Scout2016 · 03/07/2025 07:57

I agree with the idea to just ask her for her address, post it out and stick a return SAE in for your dress. A padded envelope with your address and loads of stamps on.

I've had this and it pissed me off no end. The expectation that I should he out of pocket again and have hassle to send back something I never bought before there's any chance of getting the thing I already paid for. She got all hoity toity about it too and it was entirely her fault, why should I shell out postage to fix it?

PlantsAndSpaniels · 03/07/2025 08:07

I had this happen as a seller. I sold 2 items and sleep deprived with a baby, I sent them to the wrong addresses, so had 2 buyers with the wrong items.
Once the first buyer received it, I asked that she created a return, I paid postage and it created a return postage label for her and she posted it back and refunded l her. The other parcel wasn't worth the postage cost so I told the buyer they could keep it, then posted the correct item to them.
Sadly if she doesn't return it the only thing you can do is leave feedback and explain it. But agree, you can't send the correct dress until she returns the other one.

I thought I was being helpful by getting in touch before she received the wrong item in the post 🤷🏻‍♀️

It doesn’t matter becsue at the moment Vinted think you have sent the right dress anyway. There is no proof otherwise. You don’t stand to lose by sending the buyer what she bought, you have already lost. As a buyer I would be more inclined to return the original dress to a seller who made the effort to send me what I had bought, without messing about over ‘Vinted’ rules.

Re locker/shop or delivery to the door - if you look at the tracking information it should say e.g. Yodel store to door, or In post locker/shop pickup. Hopefully it's the same for Evri?

Clearly the buyer isn't the smartest cookie. I'd send a bulleted explanation of the process. Then perhaps contact Vinted yourself and see if they can talk some sense into her. You could potentially also contact Evri?

Buyers who say 'but I needed it by X date' without asking if you can post in time can piss off and go to a shop 🙄

Edited

@Agapornis if you came at me with that attitude and sent me a bulleted explanation I’d tell you to fuck off and I’d keep your precious dress!

Happyher · 03/07/2025 10:09

How do you actually pack the wrong dress???

SalfordQuays · 03/07/2025 10:10

To be honest OP, if you’re distracted and chaotic enough to wrap up and send away one of your favourite items of clothing, I wouldn’t trust you to refund me properly and send me the correct item. I’d assume you were either a scammer, or completely unreliable, and I wouldn’t want to risk having any more dealings with you.

FunkyMonks · 03/07/2025 10:15

If it’s been sent via in post locker for her OP and she doesn’t collect it within a certain time frame doesn’t it automatically get sent back to you? Specially if she’s on holiday, to be fair easy mistake to happen I’ve had many panic when I’ve had to send out multiple stuff at once and worried I’ve sent the wrong thing off to the wrong person touchwood hasn’t happened yet but can see how they can happen.

pennyHD · 03/07/2025 10:16

I’ve got no sympathy for you. Why on earth would you keep a dress that you’ve listed for sale in your wardrobe with clothes that you wear? Lots of talk on this thread about the buyer not being very bright but you don’t sound very bright either

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 03/07/2025 10:35

You should list the real dress too and show her

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 03/07/2025 10:59

I had a mix up recently, sent the item back and just realised I didn't even get a thank you and the item I wanted wasn't relisted 🙄

Lavendersquare · 03/07/2025 12:30

Ok, I accept that I made a stupid mistake packing the wrong dress, accept this is 100% my fault.

I can’t cancel the sale even if I wanted to as this isn’t an option - Vinted thinks I’ve posted the item so correctly won’t allow me to cancel it whilst in transit.

The buyer is new to Vinted and doesn’t understand how I don’t have her address just a QR code. She wants me to post the dress but refuses to give me her address (because she thinks I have it already) as she thinks I’m a scammer.

I have contacted Vinted, explained what I’ve done asked them to cancel the sale and they are going to contact the buyer to check that she is happy with this. At least she will get get her money back.

I accept I’ll probably not see my other dress again.

It does happen

on eBay someone sent me the wrong trousers, shame as they were nice but I posted them on to the customer I think and seller sent me the correct ones which didn’t fit but heh ho and were odd sizing and WS by coincidence

also someone sent me the wrong size bra, then sent me the right one with a SAE package and I sent back the first one.

hopefully it will get sorted

Oh come on. Yes poster has been a bit harsh in her responses to the buyer but lots of people don’t have a spare space to keep their “for sale” clothes and from what ehe saying the outfits looked identical.

Your other dress may pop up on the woman’s Vinted feed so I would keep an eye out. Fingers crossed she doesn’t know how much it’s worth!

I’ve heard this happening before. It’s because sellers have cold feet about what they’re selling and don’t want a hit on their seller rating so send the wrong thing instead. They’d rather pay for a return than take a hit on their seller rating!

CappyHamper · 15/07/2025 14:51

Did you get it back OP?
