Vinted - mix-up what to do?

Lavendersquare · 02/07/2025 22:11

I sold a White stuff dress and accidentally packed up and sent a different WS dress, one I really like and didn’t want to sell. As soon as I realised I contacted the purchaser and explained what I’d done, said as soon as she gets it to raise a case and I’ll agree to a refund and free return so she can send it back. Once I’ve received the dress and the buyer gas their refund I will re-sell the dress they wanted.

I’ve attached screenshots and they think I’m a scammer, which I’m not.

Have I dealt with this correctly?

I would send the correct dress asap, so she gets it for her holiday and just hope she's honest and sends you the mistake dress back. You fucked up here so you have to go above and beyond to recify your mess

Completely agree

Madeinsuffolk · 02/07/2025 22:34

How annoying for you both. I have done similar and posted the wrong toy. Very similar but they wanted the one they bought. Had to cut losses and there was no point them returning the toy as would cost me as much in postage for them to send back. Ended up gifting them the wrong toy and then posting correct one. They had to give me their inposf details though.

ShittyHottie · 02/07/2025 22:34

How on earth did you manage to post a dress you weren't even selling? Didn't you notice as you were folding it up and putting it in an envelope that it was your dress that you wanted to keep?

Anyway you've done it now. You should do as someone said above - send her the right one asap with an extra envelope with a prepaid label attached for her to return the one you wanted to keep - and hope for the best.

simsbustinoutmimi · 02/07/2025 22:34

For those saying “just send her the other dress” OP may not have the buyers address. A lot of labels provided by Vinted are QR codes, not actual labels. Plus there is a chance the buyer could end up keeping the original dr we and the expensive one.

Personally I wouldn’t trust this buyer to post back the £70 dress anyway, even if you send her the right one as well. She would most likely keep both.

Vivienne1000 · 02/07/2025 22:37

Recently I sent the wrong items to 2 people, mixing them up. I felt awful. I took the loss and they got to keep the items and their money. They must have been disappointed and I didn’t want to annoy them even more.

Gardendiary · 02/07/2025 22:39

There are so many scams on vinted, I think its only natural that she thinks this is one, as honestly it sounds quite far fetched that you would package up and send something you weren't even selling. I'm not suggesting you are not genuine, but if I came across this on vinted that would be my first thought too.

WhatsThatComing · 02/07/2025 22:45

I’d send the dress asap with a pre printed and pre paid Evri label and self seal bag inside. She will get the dress she wants and the packaging and label and hopefully she will post your dress back

WhatsThatComing · 02/07/2025 22:47

But she has done nothing to suggest she wants to keep the dress either. She’s not the one who has made this implausible mistake.

Lavendersquare · 02/07/2025 22:47

@ShittyHottiei was having a really manic couple of days with work, kids, husband away with work and I had three parcels to send off. The dress I sold and the dress I posted are fairly similar in colour just different sizes and styles. I pulled the wrong one from my wardrobe and only realised when I went to put something away. It was a genuine mistake and in several years on Vinted this is the first mistake I’ve made.

@simsbustinoutmimiit was sent via evri, I used the print in store facility so can’t remember if it was home delivery or shop pick up.

I know, I don’t blame the buyer. Massive cockup by seller and one I’ve made before. I’m just saying I don’t think the sender should necessarily expect the buyer to make the effort to send back something when it wasn’t their fault they received the wrong thing and it’s too late to get the other dress for their holiday. She’s got no incentive to send it back other than goodwill.

in my case I just refunded the buyer/let them keep it or dispose of it and listed the correct item.

i can see why OP doesn’t want to do this as it’s £70 but imo she will probably not see the £70 dress again.

I believe it can be either. You will know in the next few days. When it’s been delivered, it will say delivered on tracking, if it’s a pickup it will say available for pickup or delivered to parcelshop/at parcelshop.

if it’s available for pickup/ at parcelshop and she doesn’t pickup within a few days, it will be sent back to you. If it’s home delivery and just says delivered/they have 2 days to report issues, then they will have to raise a return request themselves. If they don’t raise an issue and 2 days pass, or they click everything is ok, the item is now theirs and there’s nothing more you can do- the money will be released to you.

I do think you were a bit abrupt with them saying “I want my dress back”- essentially this is your mistake and they would be doing you a favour.

Lavendersquare · 02/07/2025 22:53

@WhatsThatComingit may be implausible but it’s 100% true, I was rushing and pulled out the wrong dress, I’m really annoyed with myself.

I have a lot of sympathy for you, but also for your buyer. I think you could be a lot kinder and more helpful in your messages as essentially you are asking her to do you a big favour and go through a lot of hassle.

AvidJadeShaker · 02/07/2025 22:55

I don’t think she sounds annoying, I think messages from the OP and the mistake is annoying. Refund her money and chalk it up as experience.

simsbustinoutmimi · 02/07/2025 22:58

If it is home delivered while they are on holiday then unfortunately you wouldn’t see it again as there’s a limited window to raise a dispute and return it.

caramelsauce · 02/07/2025 22:58

I’ve been in this situation as the buyer. The seller was lovely about it and asked for my address to send the correct item next day delivery and put in a postage back with a prepaid label to return the incorrect item. Could you offer something like this? I think you’re being quite unfair to the buyer in your messages

I agree. The final message was quite rude.

AvidJadeShaker · 02/07/2025 23:01

I also think posting the messages on here is not a very nice thing to do.

Offer to do this OP. Buyer gets her dress for holiday and you get your dress back.

ncforschoolhelp · 02/07/2025 23:03

You'll find the other dress on Vinted, I'm sure. Chalk it up to experience.

This (the prepaid return) could result in a ban for both buyer and seller as it’s technically against the rules. The return needs to be done through Vinted.

They are cracking down on members doing this now and exchanging address info/email info through the app. Sister got banned for it a couple of weeks ago.

CappyHamper · 02/07/2025 23:04

She sounds like a nightmare tbh. It’s nice to be nice and people make mistakes - if someone posted me the wrong thing accidentally and messaged to say they really liked it and wanted it back of course I’d make sure it got back to them. It’s a slightly different situation than just sending the wrong item from your Vinted pile when it’s something you actually like and wear.

I know we should all be wary but I just cannot be arsed with these ‘ITS A SCAM’ people.

This is how I would feel too. I sell on Vinted and I just can't understand how you can mistake stuff you wear with your selling pile. In your buyer's shoes I would keep the dress and accept that I wouldn't recieve the dress I wanted.

I think it's very unlikely you'll get your dress back.

Because it is a well known scam albeit usually with more expensive items.

buyer buys a listing

sender sends wrong thing

sender arranges return

buyer returns

sender reports buyer sent back a diff item to what was in the listing

vinted investigates, it is indeed a different item to the original listing (as sender sent wrong thing to begin with)

sender then gets to keep item + money

buyer loses item + money (and likely gets a ban)
