Motor sports?

Costacoffeeplease · 01/07/2025 12:05

As we’re all urged to fly less, drive less etc, how are motor sports still allowed and not openly criticised?

It’s not even just the actual races, but the flying of vehicles and people around the world?

Why is it ok for them but we ‘little people’ are made to feel guilty for one foreign holiday per year?

(I’m disabled and not able to travel at all, and barely use a car once a week)

@Costacoffeeplease Some of us just don’t agree you should think taking our sport away is a reasoned argument. You have been told what it means for the uk and how important innovation and employment is, but you ignore what’s said to you. You are not really listening and you go off on tangents about rich people and private jets. Anyway, I’m still going to the GP along with around 160,000 others. Don’t worry though, I’m going in my electric car. Hope you have one too!

Costacoffeeplease · 02/07/2025 20:25

Well that’s up to you.

I have my mobility scooter, that’s electric

Don't forget the tangents of motor homes, Taylor Swift and football.

I don’t use ChatGP thanks

Ummm you may have missed the wider point, but stay on brand

Costacoffeeplease · 02/07/2025 20:30

Really? 🤔

OP posts:
AmyDuPlantier · 02/07/2025 20:31

Motorsports is my job. It’s how I pay my mortgage. So it can’t be ‘easily done without’ by me or tens of thousands of other people globally, no.

Findinf your whole ‘reasoning’ quite embarrassing now really; you read an article about F1: The Movie, and thought you had an informed opinion worth sharing so stridently, and don’t want to listen to any other (frankly much more informed and discerning) opinion. Cool.

Costacoffeeplease · 02/07/2025 20:33

I believe I asked a question.

And I believe it’s been answered in about 174 different ways.

Costacoffeeplease · 02/07/2025 20:38

Oh, at least

If you count an article about a film about F1 as a reliable source, then yes it was. I’m not interested in the film, but it did just make me think, why is that still a thing?

I would appreciate it if posters would not make assumptions about me, my life, my intellect and ability to make decisions and form opinions. It’s quite insulting and I don’t need advice on what to do or who to talk to.

Going by the responses on this thread most people appear to be more than sanguine. In fact, actively resistant to change.

There are necessities, nice to haves, and luxuries/extravagences. At some point some changes and sacrifices will need to be made. Motor sports, to me, would seem to be something that could easily be done without. Hence the question.

I am genuinely amazed at the attitudes displayed here, including those directed at me personally. As I said before, v disappointing

No an article about a film about F1 for me is so far removed from a reliable source about actual motorsports. And it still depends a lot on who wrote it and what platform or publication it was printed/uploaded on, which you haven't indicated. You are basing an opinion on and opinion by the sounds of it, might be wrong. Most opinions are irrelevant. They are, mine included, most of my opinions are irrelevant as are everyone else's. Unless they are about something you know about. I know a little about F1 H was employed by a team for a while. We had many discussions about climate change, as it is an interest of both of ours, especially because we have two children who will have to live longer with the consequences of how we all are living right now, evenings of sitting and talking for many an hour about F1, the industry, opulence, climate change, innovation. He was working directly under the team lead, had meetings with the lead designers, and had access to all the development files etc. If that helps at all.

Luckily the responses on this thread amount to about 20 ish people out of billions so not a viable representation of the human race, but you are already aware of this OP.

It's difficult to know tone of voice and conversation when it is just typed out online, your responses to people tying to engage in a conversation come across as quite brusque, not saying they are but your typing style comes across that way.

I had similar questions about 15 years back when H was working in that team, I quizzed, questioned, protested and had many conversations, which obviously led to many tangents, glass of wine, summer's night, chatting the evening away. And I changed my mind about F1. I was open to it otherwise the conversations would have been pointless. Just like how this feels, it seems that you have no intention to change your point of view, which is fine, no one really cares, it's an anonymous online forum, I get the impression you would prefer if some of us felt despair for bringing children into this world when it's obviously going to be totally screwed by our selfish ways of living, I might be wrong in that assumption, can't tell, online, tone of voice not available.

This is what talking to people, who are in the industries you have concerns about can do, it can open up realisations or viewpoints that an article about a film just isn't able to do. Or other industries, or about climate change, or having children with climate change happening right now, but you know this as you say you are intelligent and talk to people already.

Excuse me? What does that mean?

OP posts:
Costacoffeeplease · 02/07/2025 20:51

I didn’t read the article, I saw a headline

Costacoffeeplease · 02/07/2025 20:38

Oh, at least

I mean, that’s usually why people start conversations 🤷‍♀️

Costacoffeeplease · 02/07/2025 20:58

I guess so

OP posts:
frozendaisy · 02/07/2025 20:59

Costacoffeeplease · 02/07/2025 20:51

I didn’t read the article, I saw a headline

And that entirely sums up the problem with modern discussions. So thank you OP you have made my evening, god I love my husband he will have brilliant lengthy debates and discussions with me about everything, think the opposite of "didn't read the article just saw a headline"
He gets dragged into conversations and gives more detailed analysis about the complexities of obtaining brown (not white) jasmine rice in our neighbourhood than you have about this!

So thank you. It's nice to be reminded sometimes of how much fun he is, even if it is from an unlikely source

Costacoffeeplease · 02/07/2025 21:02

You’re welcome

I said earlier, I read something that made me think, ‘is that still a thing?’

I’m not interested in the film or reading about it.

Seems I’m criticised for reading an article about a film, and also for not reading an article about a film 🤷‍♀️

MN deleted what I posted and the OP didn’t even know what I meant! What a joke! Irony isn’t well received by po faced MN HQ.
