Motor sports?

Costacoffeeplease · 01/07/2025 12:05

As we’re all urged to fly less, drive less etc, how are motor sports still allowed and not openly criticised?

It’s not even just the actual races, but the flying of vehicles and people around the world?

Why is it ok for them but we ‘little people’ are made to feel guilty for one foreign holiday per year?

(I’m disabled and not able to travel at all, and barely use a car once a week)

I don’t believe motor homes are used in motor sports but perhaps they are?

You obviously missed Clarkson, May and Hammond racing caravans and motorhomes.

This thread has been extremely illuminating, and frankly, disappointing

😂

How do you think they get to the tracks?😆

Interested in this thread?

Absolutely.

Not exactly a sport, but yes, I’d include that

There seems to be an obsession with motor homes on this thread. Have I attracted all the motor homers on mn?

If you want to include them in the motor sports subject, then fine, I’ll include them.

Don't think the few people who have mentioned that motorhomes are part of motor racing are the ones obsessed here OP...

@Costacoffeeplease I assume you started the thread expecting to see a pile on. Motor sports give pleasure to millions and they are innovative and important employers of very talented people. Many small companies make the parts and design the less well known cars competing in the lower echelons of racing. My neighbour used to design and make his own championship winning car. I also know someone else who did this. Enthusiasts are allowed to follow a sport and participate without you being disappointed in them.

I love football. The euros for women in Switzerland will be a big coming together of people and flights. I think hundreds of flights took MU and Spurs supporters to Spain for their final. Maybe there should have been a last minute change to Wembley but I guess that would have been hugely disruptive to plans made for Bilbao. That’s not an easy to get to city and this should be considered. It probably was selected in the light of Spanish clubs and the Portuguese clubs often doing well. However to deny fans chances to have a rare outing to a European final is not going to happen. Nor is World wide F1 and others going to stop whether you are disappointed or not.

Costacoffeeplease · 02/07/2025 13:13

Are we including football too now? Ok

The more things we add to the question the better.

You’re all giving me so many suggestions that we should be thinking about

I mean, we could ban everything that isn’t deemed necessary but that would leave us a fairly miserable existence. Motorsport has a place so long as any other sport does.

If what im told is true, AI is extremely damaging to the environment and we are beginning to embrace it, big companies are investing in it to save themselves money. So it makes no sense to me to be actively seeking to increase environmental damage in one field while restricting it in another. As long as AI is being promoted and accepted motor sports and private jets can keep going as far as I'm concerned.

Also I don't know who makes you feel guilty about going on holiday. You say celebrities get criticised but they don't really, just by some online keyboard warriors who have nothing else going on on their lives. Real people don't really get out there and protest or object to these things, only a tiny minority take the time.

Thank you for that your opinion is extremely valuable, particularly as you know very little about me.

As I posted earlier, I see it on here regularly, where people try to justify booking a foreign holiday, or criticise celebrities for using private jets whilst preaching about carbon emissions

Thought this thread was just meant to be about motorsport? 🤔

Costacoffeeplease · 02/07/2025 13:54

That seems to have passed many posters by

We’ve had football, Taylor Swift, a great number of motor homes and uncle tom cobley building his own F1 car in his shed, so I’m sorry if I answered a question. Mea culpa

Costacoffeeplease · 01/07/2025 14:17

So it’s fine for multi millionaires to do what they want but for the rest of us to be told to turn thermostats down and be penalised for all sorts of carbon emissions

Interesting

Depends if you listen to being told to turn down the thermostat, fly less and don’t drive your car.

Costacoffeeplease · 02/07/2025 14:44

Depends if you want to contribute to climate change or not.

looking at some replies here it seems a lot of people aren’t bothered

I will admit, I’m not bothered.
