What things are you a complete weirdo about?

I'm really weird about laundry. I genuinely love it. In my glory hole, I have a liquor cupboard type arrangement but for laundry products. I get genuinely excited when there's a big spill or when its bed change day and I have to do laundry. DP and I watched a TV programme once about domestic labour which said women tend to do the 'dirty jobs' even when domestic labour is fairly equally split. DP started making a conscious effort to do the laundry. I warned him off on pain of death 😂

I'm also really weird about buying plants. I love browsing for plants but I get huge anxiety whenever it comes to actually making a decision and buying them. I get all overwhelmed with worries about them dying or looking shit. It's not at all about fear of wasting money on them, I have no idea what it is. Garden centres are like an out-of-body experience for me: I am so calm when browsing around all the lovely things and then a nervous wreck when it comes to actually picking some plants up.

I'm otherwise a completely normal, functioning, rational, professional woman. At work, I'm unflappable and I have a generally pretty relaxed outlook on life. But washing and plants send me a bit bonkers.

What are you weird about?

if I see something odd or vaguely suspicious while out and about, I check the time to remember it in case I need to tell the police iater 😅 Think it comes from watching Crimewatch reconstructions as a kid 😁

Not really something I do….more a ‘just me’ thing.

I thought everyone was the same until I spoke about it and I was called an utter weirdo !!!

when I count in my head, numbers are colours and shapes, I'm pretty number blind anyway….a bit like dyslexia but with numbers.

for example, 1 is a white circle, 2 is a dark blue rectangle, 3 is a yellow triangle, and so on, and then multiples when you get into double figures etc.

yes I’m weird, but evidently, it is a ‘thing!!!’

Synesthesia! Like the artist Kandinsky.

Teenagequeenwithaloadedgun · 02/07/2025 00:29

If I'm sitting on the sofa, I can't stand anything on it as well - I get really agitated.

Sunshine after rain makes me miserable and grumpy.

Sayithowiseeit · 02/07/2025 00:38

Radio stations, more specifically, quizzes, games, waffling, hate it. It properly gives me the cringe so I don't use the radio

MannyTeddy · 02/07/2025 01:23

My back door has to be checked 4 times with the key in and 8 times without, front door 16 times. My bedside clock I have to add the squared digits together e.g. 2:42 (2×2 = 4, 4x4 = 16, 2x2 = 4 total = 24). 🥰🙄
My TV volume has to be on 16 going to bed, my car radio 26, I obviously don't like odd numbers. 😂
My husband will leave cupboard doors open like the scene from 6th sense and we have a ghost! Drives me insane.

I do things in the same order most days for example get my make up set out the same, things in the car, bedside table, coffee table but that makes sense when I'm in a hurry.

My dad had to have everything parallel to everything else like the edge of the table. I do too and now my daughter does although I do sometimes mess it up.

I'm not that rigid for the rest of my life, I work in a school and things constantly change. I do like being spontaneous and bending rules too. I think we are all a bit quirky and I love this. 🥰

LuckyManifestations · 02/07/2025 04:22

Oh my! This thread was written for me!

I hang washing out every time. I only use the dryer if I have no other choice, ie days of heavy rain, grandchildrens sickness causing loads of laundry etc.
I won't allow anyone to help with the laundry.

I struggle sitting next to anyone, even in my own home. I have to be opposite them.
If a friend or stranger sits next to me in a pub, I have to move seats.

I feel really really uncomfortable in anyone else's home. If I go to pick up a friend and they invite me in, I will always make excuses to wait in the car. Family and good friends know not to bother asking as they know Im a weirdo.Blush
I'm more than happy to give lifts, but you have to sit in the back.

If I have a medical appointment or am going for a minor proceedure, I DO NOT want anyone with me.

Although I eat out several times a week, the thought of eating anything cooked by friends or family leaves me cold.

Almost all of the above has manifested in adulthood.
I have suspected for years that I am autistic, but a family member with a Masters in a related field says Im not.

Im the same re clutter on the sofa, even the cushions have to be off it and piled neatly elsewhere.

Also on the rare occasion I sit in front of the tv to eat, I have to take the empty plate and glass back to the kitchen immediately. I havr the option to just put it on a side table, but I absolutely could not look at it for even a minute.

I do that. I’m always mentally trying to remember number plates etc.

Kimwestonhelpless · 02/07/2025 00:13

Moonwoman that's a lot to take in .
Do you find those processes taxing?

Not particularly no, just part of my life, I don't give it much thought really! And I don't do the clock counting thing every night, just seems to be a focus sometimes when I'm stressed.

Books. I don't want a brand new hardback - I really dislike them. I want a soft, used paperback that has been read lots of times, by lots of people - but NOT one that is falling apart and losing pages.

I don't want a Kindle. I like my worn paperback books. There is a comfort in holding them and reading from them.

I'm the opposite. I love brand new, shiny, never read books that I get to read first. I think it's because as a child and growing up all my books were second hand so it was a very rare treat to get a new book. I love my son for this too though because he doesn't like breaking the spines of books himself and can read them while keeping them in pristine condition. I'm then allowed to read them and crease it up for him.

In where?! 😆😆

Yes, this. @GordyMatthewson do you know what a glory hole is?

creativelady22 · 02/07/2025 07:50

I have to have matching cutlery to eat 🤣

Tryonemoretime · 02/07/2025 08:33

Draping bedding that touches the floor creeps me out. I worry in case a spider or insect clambers up it and hides under the pillow.
Drinking out of the same bottle as anyone else - even my husband's.
People who sniff......twangs something in me. Please. Just blow your nose and get it over with!

Catsandcannedbeans · 02/07/2025 12:38

TheKeeperOfTissues · 01/07/2025 21:07

I too have MY seat.
My seat on the sofa & a specific place at my dinner table when I have guests.

I'm fine with holding hands but don't touch my fingernails 🤮 it makes me feel unnecessary

I only drink water from a pint glass 🍺 ⬅️ like that.

I would take my pillows away with me if I could. I rarely sleep well anywhere else.

Water in a pint glass or my bottle. I don’t like having it out of the cups we use for the kids… it grosses me out. Which is strange because I’ll happily clean up their sick or shit… but I can’t drink form their grubby cups 😂.

I also love my pillow, which is flat and definitely terrible for my neck.

Chelsea26 · 02/07/2025 13:01

I love these threads - silly little quirks we have!

I think I only have one, if I’m making DP and I tea then we need to have joined teabags. Doesn’t matter if it’s a single cup or two cups for anyone else but we need to be married (we’re not even married 😂)

Once my MIL topped up our teabag jar and separated them all before she put them in - I didn’t drink tea for about three weeks!

DrJackDaniels · 02/07/2025 13:31

I don’t let anyone touch the dishwasher as I have to stack it in a specific way.

I can’t have my food touching other food and have to eat each item in a specific order from least favourite to favourite

I have to use a specific knife and fork to eat with and also only use certain mugs for tea.

I also love laying on my side with my arm in the air and trying to balance my arm into the shoulder socket. Sometimes I get the balance just right and can stay in that position for ages and fear that the slightest breeze or movement will ruin it and make my arm fall 🤣

CrystalCrazyCat · 02/07/2025 22:45

I can only have the TV/radio volume on an even number. If it's on an odd one I get really weird and have to change it.
And when I peg my washing out the pegs have to be the same colour. I remember when my ex used to do it he'd have one blue peg and one yellow one. I'd go into the garden and change them all so they matched. .

Coxy1234 · 02/07/2025 22:59

Fab thread OP.

I've a few of the usual ones on here, matching pegs, my own fork, towels folded a certain way, toilet roll the right way (over). I also have a few others which I don't think have been mentioned yet (but I can't be the only one, surely?):

Food, I have to have a little bit of everything on my fork to eat it. Don't know why but if I "run out" of one particular item, I might just leave the rest!

Something that started when I was young but still do, when I eat sweets, I have to eat them in colour order and if I have say, jelly tots in a tube, I will sort them out so they are in the correct order for eating.

I see dates as linear, a bit difficult to explain but, each decade is in a line and the following decade doubles back along the line.

Kimwestonhelpless · 02/07/2025 23:02

Oh no coxy food has to be eaten separately.
Nooo just couldn't do a bit of everything on the fork.

Wheezygonzalez · 02/07/2025 23:17

I have to have lip balms with me at all times. I hate the feeling of my lips bring dry and it’s such a compulsion that once I was in work without a lip balm and I felt so put out and was in such a grump all day.

I have a lip balm now in each handbag, in the car, in my bedside table drawer, in my work locker and in my desk drawer.

My fil was like this, everything separate, with his favourite food last

People eating burgers upside down.....really bothers me lol

I have been known to eat a burger with a knife and fork, does that make me a psychopath?

@Coxy1234 in BSL time is shown along lines (and occasionally a circle). If something is in the past the line goes backwards from your shoulder, the future is in front of you.

GarlicMetre · 03/07/2025 03:24

I tend to feel as if plants are conscious- not as much as a human but maybe somewhere between a prawn (grass) and a dog (tree). I talk to plants and trees and feel a connection with them. On the downside, I find it impossible to eg thin out seedlings- monstrous.

I thank my food. I think I may have started as part of a therapy thing, but it stuck so now I go "thank you, chicken" and "I hope you had an OK life, pig, I appreciate you" 😳 You reminded me because I always thank my herbs when picking the leaves!

... and I apologise if I accidentally crush a stem. "Oh, sorry, Basil, I only meant to take the top sprig. I hope the stem heals for you. Thanks for the leaves!" God knows what the neighbours think

JennyWren87 · 03/07/2025 03:35

Playmobil. I love it so so much! Waited what seems like ages for my kids to be old enough. Now we buy up all the bargains on ebay. I've started removing some "precious" ones to a safe space where "mummy's toys" live

whynotmereally · 03/07/2025 05:19

I only eat bread in bread format on the day we buy it. After that I toast it

i only eat tuna out of a can no other tined foods.

I don’t like chicken breast but will eat whole roast chicken , chicken legs and wings.
