What things are you a complete weirdo about?

I'm really weird about laundry. I genuinely love it. In my glory hole, I have a liquor cupboard type arrangement but for laundry products. I get genuinely excited when there's a big spill or when its bed change day and I have to do laundry. DP and I watched a TV programme once about domestic labour which said women tend to do the 'dirty jobs' even when domestic labour is fairly equally split. DP started making a conscious effort to do the laundry. I warned him off on pain of death 😂

I'm also really weird about buying plants. I love browsing for plants but I get huge anxiety whenever it comes to actually making a decision and buying them. I get all overwhelmed with worries about them dying or looking shit. It's not at all about fear of wasting money on them, I have no idea what it is. Garden centres are like an out-of-body experience for me: I am so calm when browsing around all the lovely things and then a nervous wreck when it comes to actually picking some plants up.

I'm otherwise a completely normal, functioning, rational, professional woman. At work, I'm unflappable and I have a generally pretty relaxed outlook on life. But washing and plants send me a bit bonkers.

What are you weird about?

Crucible I am the same, the pegs must match on each item. I also have one particular mug for morning coffee and a different one for tea. I hate it if someone picks at any food I'm preparing could stab them with whatever I'm using drives me mad.

HorsesAreRunningOn3LegsTonight · 01/07/2025 20:06

I can only drink from MY bone China cup.
I don’t put toothpaste on the brush, I put some on my tongue and spread it around so all teeth are equally coated 🥴.

Giggorata · 01/07/2025 20:43

Henry the hoover must face the door when he is in the cupboard, a bit like when you're in a lift.
Can't bear having dirty or worse, sticky hands.
Can't bear the texture of certain fabrics, especially on my hands, ugh, ugh, ugh.
If I have an itch on one side, the other side also has to be scratched.
Shoelaces must be done up to exactly the same tension on each foot.
Agree about eating English breakfast in a certain order, only mine is different. Eggs go on the toast or bread, which nothing else must touch.

DH has just looked over my shoulder and says I have loads more. Yes, I am ND.

Goddessoftheearth · 01/07/2025 20:45

Loading cutlery in the dishwasher - forks together, spoon’s together, knives together etc.

Also the stringy white bits on eggs. I have to remove them before cooking the eggs!

Tryonemoretime · 01/07/2025 20:59

In the sitting room, i always have to sit facing the door....

My feet. Cannot cope with people touching them. My sister once tickled my feet and I kicked her in the face and knocked out two of her teeth. I was 7 and she was 17, I didn’t mean to hurt her but I did tell her to stop. It triggers visceral reaction. Weirdly I rub my feet together while I fall asleep as form of self soothing.

Also my seat at our dinner table. Do not sit in my seat, don’t even like it when my kids do it as a joke…

Yes I am autistic by the way.

I too have MY seat.
My seat on the sofa & a specific place at my dinner table when I have guests.

I'm fine with holding hands but don't touch my fingernails 🤮 it makes me feel unnecessary

I only drink water from a pint glass 🍺 ⬅️ like that.

I would take my pillows away with me if I could. I rarely sleep well anywhere else.

HorribleHisTories15 · 01/07/2025 21:12

I love Alpen and can only eat it with fromage frais, the thick wobbly >4% fat yogurt that are so commonplace on the continent (France, Germany, Netherlands etc). It can’t be free from fat or stupidity. Otherwise my Alpen Müsli won’t work. I also have the stuff out of date in the work fridge as I know others won’t steal it then
Angry

All the people with volume requirements - you'd never like to watch telly with me, I always put the volume on an odd number because it annoys people.

Having the TV on anything that doesn't end in 5 or 0.

It literally makes me feel itchy and I can't stop thinking about it.

I can always tell as well.

I don’t get this one, please explain your reasoning.

Gotback · 01/07/2025 21:36

I do apologise to furniture if I knock into anything and whenever I've bought new furniture, I've introduced it to the old stuff and told them all I expect them to welcome the new chair or whatever and hope they'll all get on. I think everything's got feelings.

I have no reasons.

There's a lot of odd things that give me a physical reaction.

If I think about or hear the name of a certain celebrity I feel nauseous. No reason.

I can't look people in the eyes if they have blue eyes, that makes me feel itchy too. No reason.

If I'm in a shop and I hear part of a song I have to go home and finish it, no reason, if I don't I can't sleep.

When I am opening a can of anything I have to tap it twice before opening it or I just can't stop thinking about it for days.

I did have OCD when I was younger so it's maybe just left over issues from that.

That's gloriously nuts.💗😁

Isn’t that a MOD look ? Gavin in G & S wears his polo shirts like that.

And then they put their collar up

I have to tap cans three times before opening. I think one of my brothers told me that it stops it fizzing over when you open it so I started doing it and now I can't stop. I've passed this onto my children too, they always do it because they always see me do it.

Frillysweetpea · 01/07/2025 22:20

Yes, I'm a bit weird about the washing, too. I've at least managed to wean myself off matching pegs on the same garment. I always prep the clean laundry before I hang. Largest items go at the bottom of the basket and then they are loosely folded and added in diminishing size, finishing with socks and hankies. I suppose there is some logic to it as we have a rotary line and I start with the shortest, innermost part of the line. Usually I'll get a load on one section but it throws me a bit if I run out of room and and end up going the next section as I will have bigger things going on the innermost/short line!

mindingmyown37 · 01/07/2025 22:43

When some one takes an odd number of something out of an even amount in a packet. For example We get bacon in pack of 8, either my mum or DP will use 3 bits, which means when I use 4 there’s one bit left. It just drives me nuts 😂

People who do up the top button on their polo shirt. I don’t know why it weirds me out but it just looks peculiar & a bit silly - including on kids.

I’m fully aware that IABU on this.

No you're not, l hate this too!!
And buttons especially on cardigans actually make me wanna vom!

Does my head in as well 🤪 cheese slices - 2 per sammich not 1 🤦‍♀️ as there is an even number in the pack

TV / radio etc volume on an even number, 5 or 0

longtompot · 01/07/2025 23:47

I am particular about how my washing is hung on tne line, even during the winter and it's hung on the various airers. It's because I hate ironing so everything is hung in a way that I can just fold and put away.

@Crucible I do that too! In my mind I tell people (what people, I don't know as I am pretty sure no one cares, or can even see them!) it's because I want to make sure I use the small pegs for the thinner items so if I get the same two colours out then it will be the same peg size. It's not, I just like the same peg for each item. I also can use a different colour pair for the next item.

I hate drinking water out of mugs. It makes it taste runny, even though I know that's not the case, it's still water whatever the vessel, but to me it makes it taste warm and just not right.

Hate using the wrong cutlery, especially the ones with the round handles. Dh still gives me the 'wrong' ones when laying the table.

MoonWoman69 · 02/07/2025 00:01

I can't buy packs of 5 slices of meat singly, I have to buy 2 to make 10, so then no-one is leaving a single slice in the pack!
I got over the having to colour match pegs, by buying stainless steel ones, so now it doesn't take me as long to peg out!
The volume on my TV has to make 4 or 8 somehow! For example 13 = 1 + 3 = 4! 16 ÷ 2 = 8! The tv has to be turned down to 8 and put to BBC1 before switching off.
I can't fall asleep until I can make 8 out of the numbers on my clock too! I don't even know how that started, but I tend to do that more when I'm anxious. I can go all around the houses to make the numbers get to 8! And if I can't, I'll wait til I can!
My husband has some sort of bed making dyslexia! He used to put the pillow cases on inside out, they are never put away like that, I've absolutely no idea how he did it! The duvet cover the same! So now, either I do it, or he can help me so I can see what he's doing!
My washing up water has to be scorching hot enough to cause me to swear all the way through doing it! Any hint of it cooling too much or becoming greasy, even if I'm half way through washing up, it gets changed!
Can't wear socks with anything other than my motorbike boots!
I'm going through an iced coffee phase at the moment and make a big jug at a time for the fridge. I've realised I can't stand using a spoon to stir the coffee into the bit of hot water to dissolve it, the coffee granules stick to the spoon and that gives me the shivers! So I swirl it really fast in the jug instead, until it's dissolved, then top up with milk!
And yes, the toilet roll has to be over, not under, so as to present itself to the user! I alter them wherever I go if they're under!
Aaaaand I've just realised I'm far odder than I thought I was! 🤣🤣🤣

Kimwestonhelpless · 02/07/2025 00:13

Moonwoman that's a lot to take in .
Do you find those processes taxing?
