Has anyone tried the M&S strawberries and cream sandwich?

I like strawberries and I like cream and I like sandwiches but I don’t fancy this at all. Apparently it’s their current top selling sandwich. Has anyone tried one?

I was more horrified that I went to a M+S Food Hall yesterday and they didn't offer the sandwich meal deal 😱
I normally only ever go to M+S Food Hall's at railway stations but this was a stand alone store.
They had the sarnies, the drinks and the various "snacks" - but no meal deal.
I was so weirded out I almost started a thread in here about it.
What's that all about ???

Same here

evtheria · 30/06/2025 16:43

I saw someone posting about how they thought it was a load of crap… then bought one and realised it was delicious. It sounds like a Vic Sponge, tbh: the bread is sweet, and the cream isn’t just plain cream.
I bet it’s overpriced for what it is, BUT I also support anything that means eating more cake. If anyone wants to get one for me, I’m willing to try it out and report back my findings.

What?

Pork and apple
Ham and pineapple
Cheese and picklef/chutney
Peanuts and Jam
Strawberries and black pepper
Chicken and cranberry sauce
Chicken and mango
Most Asian and Indian and African cuisine

Strawberries and black pepper? I've never had such a thing but I love mixing sweet and savoury. What else would you have with it?

I am desperate to try this. There's an M&S at work so next time I'm in I might see if they have it.

They are probably hoping they are going to become a seven day wonder like Prime drinks and Dubai chocolate.

Quite a fixture here in Hong Kong.

To be honest I live near London & have been to loads of cafes that sell similar things. Selfridges had one last year, it was a bit gross - the cream is unsweetened and the bread was slightly salty so it was more savoury than sweet. So no chance I’m wanting to try M&S version

Alongthetowpath · 30/06/2025 17:23

I’d much prefer real cream instead of cream cheese. And I don’t really like brioche much.

So I’d rather make my own - cream, strawberries, and instead of brioche, sponge cake or a scone.
Lovely, might do that for tomorrow.

Thanks for saving me typing something similar - I have a splinter. 😥

I created my own version! I made a vanilla sponge instead of brioche, so they were more like a traditional Victoria sandwich, but with an improved filling-to-cake ratio.

I haven’t tried the M&S sandwiches so I can’t compare them, but mine were delicious 🍓😋

Well, if we're getting competitive....

Here's sweet/savoury combo with a strawberry/mini cheddars sandwich. Not sure what to use for the cream. Any suggestions (polite only)?

Does anyone have the ingredients list? I'd assume it's pretty UPF?

I’ve had the real thing in Japan where sandwiches are always crustless. It’s not bread like with a savoury sandwich, it should be sweetened brioche so a cakey vibe overall. It’s chunky because bread in Japan comes in thick fluffy slices.

So... all things considered...

It's a sandwich Jim, but not as we know it.😂

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 30/06/2025 18:04

I eat soft cheese and strawberry jam on toast or rice cakes sometimes and I’d add berries if I had them. I love sweet and savoury together.

MariaMeringue · 30/06/2025 18:07

@CrystalSingerFandepending on whether you wanted to complement the sweet or savoury element of your creation, my suggestion would be either squirty cream or a dollop of mayonnaise!

TorroFerney · 30/06/2025 18:11

no need here. my teenager has just whipped up some strawberries and Philadelphia cheese for her bagels - thank you New York Easter holiday for the idea. I find it quite sickly.

Yes they make it wrong in the uk!

🍓 Strawberries & black pepper is a classic combination, said to bring out the sweetness of the strawberries.

I make a black pepper syrup, peppercorns, caster sugar and water simmered in a small saucepan. Pour into a jug, leaving behind the peppercorns. Cool, then drizzle over the strawberries and allow to macerate for about an hour before serving.
Another version cooks the strawberries with the syrup, but I prefer the uncooked strawberries.

Also classic is strawberries with balsamic vinegar, put the strawberries in a bowl and drizzle with balsamic vinegar and sprinkle with caster sugar. Stir gently to coat, then leave to macerate for a couple of hours. Then grind over with black pepper and leave for a further 15 minutes before serving.

Dairylea Triangle???

Yes! I can imagine it now... Sadly none in my cupboards. Or my fridge. (Although I'm here in a heatwave without one, which is why I have no actual cream.)

Thanks! No mayo or squirty cream here, sadly. (No fridge, see post up/down thread.) I could go with the black pepper idea other posters have shamelessly promoted.

Although... I have some leftover feta from a Waitrose salad. Might try that. Will report back if I survive.

GivingUpFinally · 30/06/2025 18:52

Fruit and cream cheese together is fab on toasted bagels - has been a thing for decades in Toronto. Especially pineapple cream cheese.

The most popular ones I can recall seeing in Bagel shop there were pineapple cream cheese, strawberry cream cheese and blueberry one. I've tried them all and the blueberry was the winner for me

Whatever next - rhubarb and custard sandwiches?

I would 100% try that..

Dd2 tried the strawberry sandwich today gave it a 4/10

All gross combinations of foods imo. It’s why I don’t like most Thai or Chinese food.

Noooo.... What about:

Lamb and prunes.
Duck a l'Orange (or peaches)
Mackerel and gooseberries/rhubarb
Parma ham and melon
Figs, marscapone and parma ham, baked
Beef and orange
Peanut butter on toast with sweet chilli jam. (Australian, apparently.)

Plus, just for Pedants Corner, tomatoes are a fruit. (And, I just learned, so are aubergines!) The fibre count is dropping.

All foul. In fact, worse than the original list!
