Has anyone tried the M&S strawberries and cream sandwich?

I like strawberries and I like cream and I like sandwiches but I don’t fancy this at all. Apparently it’s their current top selling sandwich. Has anyone tried one?

Well I suppose I should have been clearer in asking 'havent you ever had any of those combinations'?

Yes some of them im just not keen on mixing of sweet and savoury flavours personally.

What?

Pork and apple
Ham and pineapple
Cheese and picklef/chutney
Peanuts and Jam
Strawberries and black pepper
Chicken and cranberry sauce
Chicken and mango
Most Asian and Indian and African cuisine

Sweet and savory together is also a no from me and I have had any of the things on your list apart from cheese and branston pickle sandwiches but I wouldn't class that as a sweet item

Profhilodisaster · 28/06/2025 13:04

I haven't tried the M&S ones but have been eating strawberry and condensed milk sandwiches for years,

Wolmando · 28/06/2025 13:07

They tested them on This Morning, They seem to be for those with a sweet tooth, I certainly have that so will try one

When I ate bread, I used to spread some clotted cream and then Jam on the top of a slice now and then. Lovely. I prefered it to scones which are a bit dense.

When I was a child in the early 80s, with limited resources, when I fancied a cream donut like I saw in the bakers which my mum never allowed me to have probably because of the cost, whenever we had hotdog buns in, I would smear the inside with margarine, sprinkle some sugar on there and then put a splodge of jam and voila! My very own jam and cream donut! We also used to only have basic digestives so I also learnt to run some sugar in my moms electric grinder thingy to make icing sugar and I would make iced digestives instead which were my version of fairy cakes! 😅 Ah good times - though I’m sure they’d taste revolting now haha

I’ve had the real thing in Japan where sandwiches are always crustless. It’s not bread like with a savoury sandwich, it should be sweetened brioche so a cakey vibe overall. It’s chunky because bread in Japan comes in thick fluffy slices.

LlynTegid · 28/06/2025 13:11

Just no. End of.

Whatever next - rhubarb and custard sandwiches?

Now there's an idea!

Surroundedbyfools · 28/06/2025 13:13

I like the idea of it and always thought the Japanese sando ones look nice but with this I just think how long ago was this sandwich made. Strawberries go off/mushy really quickly so a sweet sandwich with some strawberries close to being on the turn isn’t appetising

Snorlaxo · 28/06/2025 13:14

i don’t think it’s wildly different to those cream buns that look like a hot dog bun filled with cream tbh

They’re based on the really popular ones you get in Japan, my daughter loved them there but we haven’t tried an M&S one yet.

Oh yes, fond memories of afternoon tea delights in Tokyo

PistachioTiramisu · 28/06/2025 13:15

It's a no from me! Why muck up strawberries and cream by adding anything bread-like? I too don't like the idea of whipped cream cheese and hate cheesecake for that reason.

Jellyslothbridge · 28/06/2025 13:21

Recently back from Japan where these are very popular and delicious. Also come in strawberry with peach. May have to try one to compare.

AdaColeman · 28/06/2025 13:22

Reading about them took me straight back to my childhood, as my Mother would sometimes make us strawberry sandwiches for a teatime treat. 🍓 🍓 🍓 🍓
I often have summer fruits with cheese, ricotta or other soft cheese, pressed into little heart shaped moulds and left to set. Delicious! 🍓 🍓 🍓 🍓
I think the M&S whipped cheese has been sweetened a little. Also, look how popular cheese with apricot pieces or cranberries is, and cheesecake with a fruit topping.

So I think the strawberry sandwiches will be a hit, if only for this summer. 🍓 🍓

I'll definitely try them if I see them. 🍓 🍓 🍓 🍓 🍓 🍓

Funnywonder · 28/06/2025 13:23

It totally messes with my brain. I would probably like the taste, but the fact that it’s presented in the shape of a sandwich, in a sandwich box, puts me right off. Sandwich = savoury (obviously allowing for sweet elements such as fruit based relishes, raisins etc, which I’m all for.) If it tastes like a cake it should be shaped like a cake🤣

Disclaimer - as a child of the seventies, I did eat jam sandwiches. But they were rectangular, as is right and proper for jam sandwiches.

InfoSecInTheCity · 28/06/2025 13:24

DH and DD tried them the other day, DD who is a massive strawberry fan ate half and never went back for the second half, she said it was Ok but nothing special, DH said the cream cheese Creme was too yoghurty.

Strangely I have just seen these on Facebook, I can't imagine I would like them
Sweet and savioury things shouldn't be mixed Imo.

Like not caramel and salt or anything….?

TheignT · 28/06/2025 13:26

x2boys · 28/06/2025 12:55

I did say imo ,I'm not suggesting anyone has to agree with me.

I agree with you.

Eastie77Returns · 28/06/2025 13:26

Oh they are real? I saw a picture of one online and assumed it was an AI generated image😂

EBearhug · 28/06/2025 13:26

I have had cream cheese with strawberries and I do like cream cheese with fruits sometimes. And yet this does not really appeal.

SamDeanCas · 28/06/2025 13:26

I just went into M&S after reading this thread. When I asked the shop assistant she laughed at me and said they’d all been sold by 10am

MaidofBriz · 28/06/2025 13:28

Tried it yesterday. I love strawberries, I love cream and cream cheese. I love good bread.

Managed to get one on the way to work. Only 4 left on shelf at 8am in second Marks I looked in.
Cut up to share with friends at work so we could all try it.
It was a no from us all.

Bread too thick and chewy. Not particularly sweet. Strawberries were nice.

But I’ve tried it ….won’t buy another

fruitandvegoverload · 28/06/2025 13:28

I'd love to try one but I don't eat gluten Sad

Needmorelego · 28/06/2025 13:52

Oh I was going to try one but now I know it's not regular cream I am disappointed 😭

BunnyLake · 28/06/2025 13:56

Whatever next - rhubarb and custard sandwiches?

They’ve been a thing in Japan for a long time (fruit sandwiches), i’ve never fancied the look of them though.
