Please please stop posting this! It’s pointless! The OP would have no idea if you had just read their post without commenting or not! The phrase drives me crazy! Comment or don’t comment!

I find it rather virtue-signalling, as with many posts on MN. But I concede it might sometimes help someone to feel "heard" at a difficult time.

YABVVVVVU. It's not up to you to police what people say!

That’s a lot of V’s! But oh no I can’t say that either! Policing is a vvvvv (!) strong word. Surely I can state if I find something irritating. Perhaps rather than begging people to stop, I should just have posted that it’s pointless.

It’s no more pointless than starting a sentence with ‘I mean..’ Agree with PPs that ‘didn’t want to read and run’ is shorthand for ‘I have no advice but I sympathise with your difficult situation’.

I have used it once or twice. I wasn’t too busy to reply, but I had no experience of the situation.

On internet forums, formulaic phrases inevitably creep in, and inevitably people sometimes find them irritating.

It’s not being bossy. It’s just that it’s a pointless phrase. It’s good that people are trying to give comfort but why not say something like “Thinking of you”. As I said, the OP has no idea whether someone has read their thread unless that person posts on it so equally they wouldn’t know if that person had “ read & run”! It’s just daft!

I just wrote a similar post. It drives me nuts.
