Popular things you wouldn't even do for free... (Glastonbury for me)

Me? Glastonbury. There isn't enough vodka in Russia to get me there. Too many people, too much noise, hay fever, having to piss and shit (both of which I need to do a lot) in shared portaloos probably with no bog roll, not having a proper shower or proper anything wash wise, feeling sticky and unclean, not having a real bed to sleep in. The list goes on and on and on. If someone offered me £50,000 to go from the very beginning to the very end I'd probably consider it but even then I doubt I'd bite. If I did I'd probably die of misery by day two anyway. Utter, utter misery.

What's yours?

@mambojambodothetango agree, the Spanish people we met were amazing, at one bar the owner kept opening bottles of wine as it was my friends birthday and refused to charge us for them. People couldn't have been more welcoming.

LizzieSiddal · 27/06/2025 08:44

We work in an area where we are actually given free tickets for Glastonbury. Dh has been, probably 15 times, as he has to. I’ve never been, I’m always too busy 😆

TheChosenTwo · 27/06/2025 08:44

So many things already mentioned but absolute top of the list would be:
Magic Mike / Dreamboys - so cringey and embarrassing
definitely Glastonbury, any kind of festival that lasts longer than a day. I don’t mind going for an afternoon/evening when it’s dry but other than that the prospect is just bleak.
Day trips at the beach - overcrowded
Legoland - been a couple of times, just hideous.
Going to Disney as an adult without kids. I went as a kid. You’d never see me there without taking my kids and none of them are interested thank god!

Saltedcarameltiramisucheesecake · 27/06/2025 08:48

Hot air ballooning.
Hang gliding.
Paragliding.
Deep sea diving.
Bungee jumping.

Not in a million.

I would love to go to Glastonbury though, but only if I could have the top notch experience with a private toilet away from the hoi polloi 😁

silkypyjamas · 27/06/2025 08:48

Go to India

Cynic17 · 27/06/2025 08:49

I agree re both Glastonbury and Disneyland.

Also wouldn't go to:
An Adele concert
The audience at Strictly
Hen 'do'
Cruise (unless very small boat, eg 25 guests or fewer)
Camping (unless a luxury tent on safari, with plumbing, proper bed etc)

ChocolateCinderToffee · 27/06/2025 08:50

Just about everything listed as so far except I like city breaks and Cornwall.

Holidays anywhere cold.

steepdreams · 27/06/2025 08:51

skydive
anything involving going deep inside a dangerous cave & risking not getting out
open water swimming is a big no
Have children 🤣🤣🤣 (yes I know it’s mumsnet!)

I’ve done Disney, it was hell
However I loved cruising! We cruised Alaska - such a beautiful part of the world I never would have been able to see otherwise. If you book excursions with the cruise liner you see so much and aren’t worried about getting back. I was always able to find a quiet part of the ship when I needed a breather. I promise they can be very enjoyable

OutandAboutMum1821 · 27/06/2025 08:54

Camping. I’m too bad a sleeper for that, and hated the fluctuations in temperature when I did try for the first and last time aged 17.

womanbornn · 27/06/2025 08:56

camping
skydiving
Glastonbury
Benidorm
hot air balloon ride
helicopter ride

Icebreakhell · 27/06/2025 08:57

Can I add musicals. All that boring bellowing of shit songs with middle aged gaggles of women dancing in aisles for 100 pound upwards a ticket. No ta.

Also, ABBA Voyage. Expensive cinema without a seat, asphyxiated by BO from acres of synthetic shiny shirted audience.

Icebreakhell · 27/06/2025 08:58

India. Who wants the shits?

RampantIvy · 27/06/2025 08:58

Multi course taster menus with wine

My idea of heaven.

Blingismything · 27/06/2025 07:40

Any form of camping. Riding a motorbike.

Agree with camping!!

itgetsthehoseagain · 27/06/2025 08:59

Be a paediatric doctor. I’d never be able to come back from a mistake I might make.

That went dark quickly.

Also, a safari.

JasmineTea11 · 27/06/2025 08:59

Good one OP. Every year I ponder what I would have to be paid to go to Glastonbury. I enjoy watching some of it though.

I would also need to be paid handsomely to do any cruise, Disney, package / AI holiday, stadium concerts, big festival. Afternoon tea. Fairground rides, water parks.

I love live music, dancing etc, but I was dragged to too many festivals as a child (back when they were good obviously 😉)

Doggymummar · 27/06/2025 09:00

Gosh you are all my people! I did always say no to cruise ships but I was a travel agent for twenty years, and there are some good one. Just not P and O flipping ferries pretending to be cruise ships, but other than that I think you covered it

Gettingbysomehow · 27/06/2025 09:01

Glastonbury for sure not my kind of music or vibe. I'll never go. I can hear it from my house anyway. It's going to be boiling this year and there is no tree shade.
Also fairground rides. No thanks.

ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera · 27/06/2025 09:02

Lots of sports that are just an exercise in trying not to die - you can keep all that.

We did a mini cruise in Indonesia many years ago. Maximum passenger capacity was 150, but the ship wasn't full. It was utterly brilliant. We started from Bali and called in at Sumbawa and Komodo. It was such a memorable holiday.

merrymelody · 27/06/2025 09:03

Go to a Taylor Swift concert.

Changingplace · 27/06/2025 07:41

Watch Robbie Williams, irritating attention seeking untalented, saw him at a festival years ago because some friends wanted to see his set, god awful

You mean the actor of "Flubber" and "Mrs. Doubtfire"? Untalented?

TulipTiptoer · 27/06/2025 09:04

Shimmyshimmycocobop · 27/06/2025 08:34

Agree with most of these apart from Spain, loved Northern Spain, did the Camino and everything was fabulous, I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Totally agree. For over a decade we have toured inland Spain visiting and staying in not far off maybe 80 towns and cities. The architecture is gobsmacking...the castles, cathedrals, the moorish influences, the plaza mayors in every place, the fiestas and celebrations, the tapas, the cobbled streets....I could go on.
Spain is the most beautiful country

Treatedme · 27/06/2025 09:04

Agree with loads of these:
Glastonbury
Skiing
Escape rooms
Spa weekends
Camping
Any hotel holiday resort type place

That's Robin Williams.
