ChatGBT Payment Query

RabbitsRock · 25/06/2025 11:25

DD16 has made a payment through Go Henry, supposedly for a ChatGBT subscription. It’s come up under “ Toys & Gadgets” in the spending section of Go Henry. I clicked on it & it’s an Apple payment. Apple say they need DD’s Apple ID to look into it. Would ChatGBT be through Apple?

The actual company is Open AI and they make "Chat GPT" so this sounds like a dodgy scam preying on people not knowing the proper name.

Snorlaxo · 25/06/2025 11:28

Does she use ChatGPT app through her iPhone or other Apple device? Purchases would be via the AppStore and appear as Apple

Snorlaxo · 25/06/2025 11:30

Also if the bill says ChatGBT rather than ChatGPT then something could be wrong. If you have DD’s Apple device then you’ll be able to see her purchases and subscriptions via the AppStore app

I had one experience with Go Henry where they were absolutely appalling at chasing and passing on a refund in similar circumstances . I think we got it eventually but they filled me with absolutely no confidence. They also overcharged for an extra month of subs and they ruthlessly police their trustpilot and have negative reviews removed. I would never use them again. Plus they charge you a monthly fee for nothing! Get a Revolut and a linked kids account

RabbitsRock · 25/06/2025 11:59

Sorry meant to type Chat GPT

I suspect that DD has used the money I transferred to her GH card for something else whilst telling me it’s for the subscription. I did ring Apple but they need her Apple ID which I don’t know.

It’s on her I Phone

Does DD say the payment was an error or scam? How much was it?

yonem · 25/06/2025 12:05

Her Apple ID is the email associated with her Apple account. If you open the settings on her phone it’s right at the top (I presume same layout on an iPad). You can also find a list of subscriptions within that part of the settings.

It was £9.99. She isn’t saying it’s an error or a scam.

Unfortunately she’s very unlikely to let me look at her phone

I have a ChatGPT subscription, and it costs more than 9.99 (all the subs do as far as I can see) and I can't see an option for paying with Apple either, so I think it's a scam.

PinkFrogss · 25/06/2025 13:18

Then it sounds like she’s wasted £10 but if it’s her money then that’s her problem. See if it comes out again on the same day this month.

DD is scamming me then! Sadly she does have form for saying she’s buying something but actually using the money for something completely different

Actually, I've just checked and you can use ApplePay if you pay on the mobile app (I use my Mac) but it still costs more than 9.99.

you can do a basic package and a prem etc

verityveritas · 25/06/2025 13:39

Can’t help with this scenario, but at 16, save yourself some money and get her a proper bank account. Go Henry is only useful until 11/12 years, after that some banks do a kids account and no fees. No point paying fees when you don’t have to.

Even the basic package is between £15-20 depending on exchange rates though.
