Just curious if anyone can shed liJust curious if anyone can shed light on this. I know a couple a few years older than me (late 20s/early 30s) living in Newton-le-Willows. He works as an admin/warehouse inventory clerk at some small frozen and she did not go to uni, she has no LinkedIn, never mentions any kind of work or side hustle.

And yet they’ve been on a couple of holidays in the last year, seem to eat out occasionally, and post pics of family days out etc. It’s not luxury by any means, but still — two kids and one modest income??

Are they just really good with money? Family help? Universal Credit top-ups?

Genuinely trying to understand how people make it work on paper when everything is so expensive these days.

Credit cards, loans, trust fund, benefits, criminal enterprise, inheritance, lottery win, extreme frugality?

Or maybe just working and spending carefully? It's not that unheard of to be able to manage your money is it?!

Tiddlywinksrus · 23/06/2025 15:05

Ebay, furniture resoration, childminding, grandparents, cheap housing where they live, inheritence, buy and sell cars, only fans, investments, online courses, amazon selling, gardening, nail tech, buy and sell vintage computers etc.
So many ways to get a second or third or fourth income stream.
Either that or credit cards I would think.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 23/06/2025 15:05

Surely, not going to university means no loan to repay, so you should be better off if you didn't go?

Maybe she works from home?

ArtemisiaTheArtist · 23/06/2025 15:05

Side hussles. Most people I know have them. I have one.

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 23/06/2025 14:38

You sound creepy as fuck 😂

And what on earth does LinkedIn have to do with wealth? I’m not on LinkedIn and you’ve no idea what I earn

Me neither.

Stop stalking them OP.

needrain · 23/06/2025 15:09

Not all days out require money.
I spend alot more than what they do and im single and childless.
No offence op but wind your kneck in and get on with your own life.
Not all of us feel the pinch.
Some of us are really good with budgeting.

CurlewKate · 23/06/2025 15:12

Obviously benefit fraud. Report them. Or drug dealing. Log it with 101(or whatever the special dedicated number for Mumsnetters is)

PlantDoctor · 23/06/2025 15:15

I know someone who posts the most amazing luxury trips and like cocktails in fancy London hotspots etc.

I also know that he contacted an old friend out of the blue, borrowed a load of money, then vanished into thin air. Some people are just shitty. Not saying that's the case here, but social media doesn't tell you everything.

RowsOfFlowers · 23/06/2025 15:16

I sometimes wonder this about my neighbours 😆 I think it’s only human to be curious. I wouldn’t call it “creepy af” though like some pp. Though not having a LinkedIn does not necessarily mean that they don’t work. I have a guy opposite me, single, a kid or two, living alone in a 3 bed brand new house.
I always wonder how he can afford it when most people need two incomes to afford that.

It’s probably inheritance, OP.

Gymmum82 · 23/06/2025 15:17

I work. Full time. I’m also not on LinkedIn and I didn’t go to uni. I’m not sure that means much.
NLW isn’t an expensive place to live, cheap rent/mortgage, maybe some universal credit top ups. Combined salary of £60k maybe. We live comfortably on about that and have a holiday every year plus eat out and other luxuries

honeylulu · 23/06/2025 15:19

They could earn more than you think.

Might have very low rent.
Might have family help with buying/renting.

Might have had inheritance or modest lottery win.

Could be good at saving and living frugally most of the time in order to prioritise occasional meals out and 2 hols a year.
Good at finding bargains and special offers.
Have debt but manage it well (moving 0% finance around etc, keeping up repayments)

OR
In loads of debt.
Criminal enterprises.
Secretly rich but live modestly in order to laugh at nosy people wondering how they do it.

First list more likely!

JustGoClickLikeALightSwitch · 23/06/2025 15:19

DH and I don’t look like much but our household income is high. Could be something like that. I also do a lot of cutting bills, using vouchers, switching bank accounts, using cashback, selling (not knickers!) on eBay and Vinted - we could have a very nice holiday just on my takings from that. Different people live their lives differently.

ItsFridayIminLoveJS · 23/06/2025 15:20

I'm not on LinkedIn.... didn't go to uni . I'm an OAP..currently on my 4th holiday this year in the Greek islands.. will have another four holidays this year.
I eat put about 3 times a week.
Meet old friends for lunch and shopping trips.
Okay l don't drink.. don't own a car.
Own my house ( no morgage).. help out my daughters and Grandkids with money/ hols.. one works one doesn't ( genuine reason why).. but I'm not going to tell you how l afford it. Non of your business.. .. just like anyone else.
Jealously isn't a nice trait to have.

Theyreeatingthedogs · 23/06/2025 15:21

My skint BiL is on LinkedIn so it means nothing. Maybe she's on OnlyFans instead?

LBFseBrom · 23/06/2025 15:22

They may have inherited some money. Anyway, it's their business. There are, and will always be, people who seem to manage better, are able to do more, on what appears to very little but it's hardly worth thinking about. Just concentrate on yourself and your own finances.

cloudyblueglass · 23/06/2025 15:25

They get their money from the bank of Mind your own business

VictoriaEra2 · 23/06/2025 15:27

Heck. Im not on LinkedIn either. Never occurred to me to use it unless looking for different work.

lilaclemon · 23/06/2025 15:28

Living their best life, it’s hardly luxurious. Good for them.

Judiezones · 23/06/2025 15:29

Maybe he owns the freezer company and she owns Newton le Willows

Verv · 23/06/2025 15:33

No uni, not on LinkedIn, not destitute either.

Shetlands · 23/06/2025 15:35

I think you should copy your post and paste it under their next social media post. That way, you'll either have lots of their friends and family answering your questions for you or the couple might do it themselves.

Do come back and let us know.

scotstars · 23/06/2025 15:35

Could be any reason - lottery win, inheritance, savings??
They are in north West so rent/mortgage is probably more in proportion to income. I was lucky to buy my home at a good time so that I have an extremely low mortgage - I am a single parent and we have 3 trips abroad this year it can be done if you are frugal and have reasonable housing costs.

Cabotine · 23/06/2025 15:42

I didn’t go to uni but I’m doing alright - I went to 2 holidays abroad so far this year. Is it ok with you ? Ps : I don’t have LinkedIn

milkandblackspiders · 23/06/2025 15:43

Bloody hell my cousin lives in Newton le Willows, didn't go to uni (she does have a job) has a child and a partner with a manual job and she goes on holiday every year! And day trips too! Shall I call the police?

milkandblackspiders · 23/06/2025 15:45

Slightly more seriously- the cousin in Newton le willows bought her first house for £70k so the small mortgage helps to explain her lifestyle
