How are people affording this lifestyle?

Just curious if anyone can shed liJust curious if anyone can shed light on this. I know a couple a few years older than me (late 20s/early 30s) living in Newton-le-Willows. He works as an admin/warehouse inventory clerk at some small frozen and she did not go to uni, she has no LinkedIn, never mentions any kind of work or side hustle.

And yet they’ve been on a couple of holidays in the last year, seem to eat out occasionally, and post pics of family days out etc. It’s not luxury by any means, but still — two kids and one modest income??

Are they just really good with money? Family help? Universal Credit top-ups?

Genuinely trying to understand how people make it work on paper when everything is so expensive these days.

How come you know these people @AmusedTaupePlayer? Ypu don’t know anything about where they live. You’ve looked her up on LinkedIn, think you know what he does for work, that they go on holidays and eat out now and then. Who are they to you? It’s all very strange, why would you be comparing your lifestyle to their’s when you know so little about them?

They are the cousins of my ex

They are the cousins of my ex

So not exactly close relatives or anything.

Just let it go, the jealousy you hold over them is not normal and will just make you unhappy.

Just live your own life.

Jealousy is normal.

Jealousy is normal.

Jealousy is normal, but being this jealous (enough to need to create an entire post about every detail of their life) is not healthy.

I think enough other people on here agree. No ones begrudging you for being jealous, but you need to let it go. Live your own life.

Orangeandpurpletulips · 25/06/2025 09:44

It is normal. But that's unlikely to be a close enough relationship for you to be familiar enough with their finances to make the calls you have here. If you're not willing to move to NLW and access that lifestyle yourself, you really are best off working on letting it go.

cannotbetooarsed · 25/06/2025 09:50

I deleted LinkedIn for the very reason that this post was written…fucking snoopers !

DrJackDaniels · 25/06/2025 09:52

I can’t believe this post is for real? Angry because 2 people have had a holiday and a few days out and because they didn’t go to uni or do things the right way??

My husband didn’t even pass his GCSE’s but now a well paid senior manager for a national company.
I didn’t go to uni but earn twice my husband and work from home as a contractor - my neighbours probably think I’m a SAHM.

We have new cars on the drive and 3 kids in independent school. And if anyone asks what we do I say my DH works on a building site and I work from home.

There’s a plethora of reasons why people on the surface appear to be doing well for themselves (or even just living a normal life in this case) and it’s none of anyone else’s business!

Ireolu · 25/06/2025 10:12

I learnt about Newton le willows today. Had never heard of it.

OP I'm really struggling to understand why you are angry. I went to university with Richard Branson's kid. I could have spent the entire course annoyed with them that their dad's a billionaire. I didn't (couldn't be bothered) cos I had my stuff to focus on. Focus on your stuff and build your life to where you want to get it to.

Deathinvegas · 25/06/2025 10:26

AmusedTaupePlayer · 24/06/2025 10:02

I am now replying: I guess the reason why I feel angry is that the social contract seems to be broken. e.g. I go to uni and work hard and can afford a lifestyle.

But they can afford a lifestyle too without high-flying careers and uni education.

You don’t think working in a warehouse is hard work.

So you don't think admin is hard work? Do you even understand what you are saying I don't think you have a grasp of actual life outside your very strange bubble.

No it's not hard work bc anyone can do it. no need for qualifications such as ACA, CFA etc.

Ok, you are literally just a bitter sod at this point. You have absolutely no idea how much work another job is if you have never done it. Get a grip now seriously!

At this point you are either a very sad bitter person or a troll.

God forbid I live next to a neighbour who wants to look me up on linked in. Wow even Facebook is low. Stop watching her pockets and find a hobby

I have no idea what any of those qualifications are im one of these people who have managed through life without a university education.

I now can't decide if you are being serious or just stringing us along, either way it is an unpleasant way to think about people just living their lives.

Wolmando · 25/06/2025 11:43

OP is obviously stringing us along, they also had another weird thread

I think you need to consider you vocabulary. Hard work is not the same as complex or technically qualified. I imagine working in a warehouse or admin can indeed be hard, but possibly not complex to the level you suggest.

No qualifications doesn't mean it's not hard work. I dare you to say my job isn't hard yet anyone can walk into that kind of job without qualifications(I'm a HCA in a residential nursing home). You sound bitter and stuck up to be quite honest OP. Get your nose out of other people's business and concentrate on your own family

Wow you’re really something OP!
Cant imagine EVER being ballsy enough to say someone else job, which I have no idea what it really entails, is not hard work.
Stop obsessing over your exes cousins and get a grip, your updates make you sound like an awful person.

MurdoMunro · 25/06/2025 12:53

Turn your jealousy into action. If you want what they’ve got them set about making it happen. You might need to move to a cheaper area, or take a job that ‘anyone could do’. But hey if that gives you whatever it is that’s making you feel bitter for not having then what have you got to lose?

PissedOff2020 · 25/06/2025 16:19

When you say she never mentions a job, do you mean when talking to her? Why not just ask her? Or do you mean in her social media posts? - as Jesus, most people don’t!

By the way, loads of married women who’ve built a career don’t change their surname at work. So she very well may have a profile, just not in the name you’re looking for.

Umbrella15 · 25/06/2025 17:19

Does it matter op, I mean really.

Atina321 · 25/06/2025 18:31

Your jealousy is showing. Mind your own. Sounds like the kids are well cared for - nothing else is any of your business.

Atina321 · 25/06/2025 18:33

AmusedTaupePlayer · 24/06/2025 10:08

You are just trolling now. WTF?

BlondeCircus · 25/06/2025 19:09

To be honest why are you concerning yourself with what they do bloody hell if you were my neighbour and I knew you were getting your knickers in a twist about our lifestyle I’d be spinning your a right story and stand back and watch you squirm .you need to gets life
