Pulp concert

Anybody else go the Pulp concert last night in Birmingham? It was amazing! Even better than I expected to be honest, and I'm a pretty big fan although somehow had never seen them live - despite loving them for 25 years plus! Lots of interaction from Jarvis, loads of stage digital displays, streamers, confetti/ticker tape at the end, inflatables etc. All this and Jarvis was his usual fabulous self, good mixture of old and new songs..excellent night 😍

I went to the O2 concert last week, it was great! He's a great front man isn't he.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 20/06/2025 11:44

We were in London last weekend - agree they were amazing! I'd never been in the O2 before (we're in Scotland) and didn't love it as a venue, but Jarvis made up for the long queues to get back to the hotel. We saw them at the Scarborough open air theatre on their last tour and that was also a fantastic gig.

Pinkybike · 20/06/2025 11:44

Yes, I was there and loved it!
Jarvis was funny and chatty, I’ve loved him for many years and finally got to see him 😍

I went to the O2 one at the weekend. OMG, my Jarvis obsession has resurrected itself. This is the third time I've seen them and it might be my favourite one.

StasisMom · 20/06/2025 11:47

Yes! It was brilliant!

DiscoBob · 20/06/2025 11:49

Pulp was one of my first ever gigs in '95. I love Jarvis. He used to live near my work and use our local pub. He didn't really like it when I tried to make eye contact and say hi though. My dreams were somewhat shattered! Haha.

I'm going to Manchester on Saturday and I can't wait!! I first saw Pulp at Cardiff Uni just as Common People was climbing the charts and had such a Jarvis crush!

I'm going on my own (because my OH is a miserable git and thinks anything over £20 for a gig is a rip off!) and it will be amazing!!

WaltzingWaters · 20/06/2025 11:50

I saw them at a festival way back in 2011. I didn’t know much of their stuff (besides the obvious Common People). They were absolutely incredible. Jarvis is such a showman. Whole band amazing.

Blarn · 20/06/2025 11:51

Yes! It was excellent.

I couldn't work out where to get water from though, the bar I went to didn't do it and I couldn't be bothered going off to find some but I was very warm and wanted that water!

You will have an AWESOME time believe me! Considering it was baking hot in Birmingham last night & I'm not great in the heat, it didn't matter one bit because the show was so captivating! Enjoy 😊

It was super hot wasn't it? We were near-ish the front so my valiant friend went out the nearest exit to us and got us a pint glass of water each - I was so grateful!

@hellswelshy I've joined Mumsnet just to tell you that I was at the Pulp gig in Birmingham last night. And I agree, it was epic!
I've only seen Pulp once before, in 1996, just after Jarvis had his "incident" with Michael Jackson. He was amazing and eccentric then, but I feel that last night he dialled the eccentricity up to 10!!
I've seen performers throw sweets into the crowd before, but never grapes!
When the disco set kicked off, watching the crowd light up was just phenomenal.
The only downside of last night was the piss poor train service going south afterwards. Bloody trains!
Glad you had a good night too!

AreYouShittingMe · 20/06/2025 12:14

@TasteOfHerCherryChapstick also going on Saturday! Really looking forward to it. Going with my DS, who despite now being an adult and can go with his mates, wanted to go with me because he knows how much I love seeing them live. Just not looking forward to the heat in the co-op arena…

And teabags!

IwasatthePulpgigtoo · 20/06/2025 12:17

@hellswelshy I wondered what was in the paper bag!
@TasteOfHerCherryChapstick Jarvis wants the crowd as hot as possible!

StasisMom · 20/06/2025 12:18

BTW it starts at 8 and finishes 1030, very reasonable!

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 20/06/2025 12:19

I'm going tomorrow, and very excited! Third time seeing them, spread out over 30 years.

I was at Nine Inch Nails at the Coop on tuesday (this is an exceptional week, I am normally a two gigs a year person!) and it wasn't too bad heat wise. And they had water dispensers with cups!

LlynTegid · 20/06/2025 12:21

There is no comparable lead singer or front man, and I am glad to read of those who were able to go that it was very enjoyable.

Waitingfordoggo · 20/06/2025 12:24

Oh, Pulp are my favourite, glad you enjoyed the gig OP.

I’m going to see them at a festival next month (Tramlines)- and that will be my fifth time seeing them, having seen them previously at Wembley, Hyde Park, Brixton and Cardiff. Never a disappointing performance ever- always plenty of energy, effort and humour and a brilliant show.

My big regret is not going to Glastonbury to see them in ‘97 😫

Anyone who has already been- did they play This is Hardcore? What about Razzamattazz? I know there is a new album so I’m expecting to hear some of that but hopefully plenty of oldies too.

AreYouShittingMe · 20/06/2025 12:26

Thank you @Blarn!

Pinkybike · 20/06/2025 12:27

They played Hardcore and Razzmatazz 😁😁

IwasatthePulpgigtoo · 20/06/2025 12:30

@Waitingfordoggo they actually did an audience poll during the 15 minute "intermission" as to which song we wanted to hear in the second half. Razzmatazz won the day!

NeedForSpeed · 20/06/2025 12:32

Not me but I saw Pulp at the IoW Festival in 2011 and they were my favourite band of the entire weekend, totally blew me away!
