Omaze Cheshire house

What’s the verdict, Omazers?

I don’t like this one at all. Too much glass, a pool to maintain, and it’s ugly. I’ve just glanced at it, so will go back for another look, but I much prefer the more traditional houses.

I guess they’ve had so many southern ones lately it was time for one further north … I don’t mind it but it’s not quite state of the art enough to be a truly modern house like the Bond villain lair a few months back near Liverpool.

I know the area is every sought after but I wouldn’t want to live in footballers’ territory.

That house would be fine in a Med climate but it’s Cheshire! Surely a lovely stone farmhouse would be better for the area and weather?

I do like period homes too but find Omaze’s interior designers blandify them so much that they look naff and suburban.

cathyandclaire · 19/06/2025 09:48

I'm already planning to put it straight on the market when I win! 😂

angelinawasrobbed · 19/06/2025 09:48

There’s no bathroom for anyone in the ‘spare room’ to use without invading one of the bedrooms

RJ2025 · 19/06/2025 09:49

I don’t really like this one either, I’m not sure why not but obviously if I won it would put with it I guess

BarnacleBeasley · 19/06/2025 10:02

I don't find the 'footballer lifestyle' thing especially appealing, but I think it's the problem with Omaze needing to put a huge price tag on the houses for the headlines, but then trying to feature different areas of the UK. It's the same with that Scottish one near Gleneagles a while back. You could find lots of really nice £multimillion houses in the south that normal people might like to live in or have as a holiday home, but if you are looking further north or in Scotland, those houses would cost way less, so they end up picking something in an area fashionable with mega rich people instead.

I think the house is fine, but I'll probably just have a holiday there and then sell it. A bit annoying that the only bathtub is in the master en suite, but I guess we'll manage.

Farban · 19/06/2025 11:56

Does anyone know the location of this house?

DiscoHippo · 19/06/2025 14:13

It’s luxurious but it’s not special, that’s the thing. Every once in a while you get one that’s an absolute corker with soul, and then you get ones like this, or the Exmouth house; the bland boxes. Of course, I’d be staggered and delighted to win it, but it doesn’t appeal in the same way as the stand-outs.

RJ2025 · 19/06/2025 14:57

I really, really loved the Cotswold house recently

ShyMaryEllen · 19/06/2025 16:21

Yes, the spare room is an oddity. Why not call it a breakfast room, or a snug/family room? It makes me wonder if it's useable. Also, the layout upstairs is like a corridor in a hotel, with the bedrooms in a row.

I'll sell it when I win it, and in the unlikely event that I get £4m for it, that's a million each for me, husband and both children. I wouldn't fit in with footballers' wives - too old, too fat, too unfashionable - so it would be wasted on me. Also, I actively (well, inactively) dislike the idea of a gym, sauna and pool. They all sound like more hassle than they're worth.

What I would like is to get the job of writing the blurb for the rooms. Gather loved ones around a richly grained ash table in this uplifting dining space, where smoked mirrors reflect happy faces and an abundance of natural light. It's like a parody😂

When you win @ShyMaryEllen can I have the rowing machine? I've always wanted one like that. Also I quite like the painting in the study.

DilemmaDelilah · 19/06/2025 16:22

I do like it. I love the fact it has an indoor pool, and it has a lift. Ultra modern houses aren't particularly to my taste, I love the old ones, but being practical it would suit us very well.

Both DH and I are getting more and more decrepit - the only exercise I can do comfortably is swimming and an indoor pool means that I could do that several times a day 365 days a year. I would turn the gym into a therapy room with a massage table and a hairdressers station.

I love that the garden is surrounded by trees, and there are enough bedrooms for all of either side of the family to come and stay at the same time. It's not far from one of my children and the same distance from DHs child as we are now. It would do us very well.

What I really want to know is - where exactly is it?

MiddleAgedDread · 19/06/2025 16:30

we're going to need a bigger wine cellar ;)
It doesn't look like it's a £4m house, I'd want more living space than that and somewhere separate to the open plan family room. I guess that's Alderley Edge prices for you though!
I'd sell it, buy this one and bank the change! 5 bedroom detached house for sale in Mottram Road, Alderley Edge, SK9

You can empty the gym. Even the 'iron bound water pail' is yours for the asking.

DilemmaDelilah · 19/06/2025 16:55

@BarnacleBeasley when I win you can have everything in the gym. Unless there's a walking pad... I would keep that.

SarfLondonLad · 19/06/2025 17:37

Naff as fuck.
I won't be buying a ticket just in case I win.

SarfLondonLad · 19/06/2025 17:38

cathyandclaire · 19/06/2025 09:48

I'm already planning to put it straight on the market when I win! 😂

If it could be sold on the market, it wouldn't be on an Omaze raffle.

wheretoyougonow · 19/06/2025 17:48

I’m not keen. It might be the first house that I don’t enter.
on a separate note, I’m sure it looks exactly like the house in the No.9 episode where no one speaks and the burglars witness a murder 😁

cathyandclaire · 19/06/2025 19:26

Everything sells at a price- but it's likely to be significantly lower than 4 million

ThatsNotMyTeen · 19/06/2025 19:28

How did I know it would be in Alderley Edge 😂

looks like a museum from the outside and I also wouldn’t want to live down there in the footballers and WAG belt

coolbreezes · 20/06/2025 19:12

I like the pool, and the lift.
Just the location doesn't appeal at all. Even for a day trip Grin

I wouldn't turn it down if I won it, but I would probably cheerily sell it at quite a discount.

If I could relocate it to somewhere different I would be quite happy!

coolbreezes · 20/06/2025 19:14

Has anyone managed to track down any old rightmove entry or similar yet? I love seeing how the houses look before they are "omazed"

BuyingButterAndSatinSandals · 21/06/2025 17:17

I don't like this one. The architecture, interior design and location are not for me. It will be an easy decision to sell the house and contents when I win it!

Just like all of the London houses, I wouldn't want to live in that area of Cheshire and nor would any of the family. I would have considered relocating to several of the previous houses, like the recent ones in Norfolk, the Cotswolds, Yorkshire and Scotland, but not this one. I'd usually like to keep some of the furnishings whether or not we kept the house, but I'm not sure there is anything in the photos of the Cheshire house I'd hold on to. It's all a bit TKMaxx for me, not that I'm adverse to the odd bargain from there! The only thing I really like about the house is the indoor pool, as would all the family. The other positive seems to be the surrounding trees especially if they mean that the house has a good degree of privacy, but it is hard to tell from the photos. So it's a yes please from me but only to sell it, although we'd have a holiday in it in the meantime just for a different experience, especially for the pool.

I quite like the current Sussex house, if the lack of privacy can be sorted out. I read the other day that the Norfolk house still hasn't been handed over to the winner because of the ongoing planning issues. The winner intends to sell it apparently. Still a very nice problem to have though, despite the delay!

DilemmaDelilah · 21/06/2025 19:21

I've found it! It is 3, The Ridge, Woodbrook Road, Alderly Edge.

Vitrolinsanity · 21/06/2025 19:38
