Omaze Cheshire house

What’s the verdict, Omazers?

I don’t like this one at all. Too much glass, a pool to maintain, and it’s ugly. I’ve just glanced at it, so will go back for another look, but I much prefer the more traditional houses.

Wonder how much the council tax would be

BuyingButterAndSatinSandals · 21/06/2025 23:05

It last sold in 2016 for £3.9m before Omaze bought it and it isn't the worst house on the road - see Broadhill. Thanks @DilemmaDelilah

Here are the estimated running costs from the Omaze website @Superhansrantowindsor :
We’ll give the winner £250,000 in cash to help with running costs and settling in.
We estimate the basic running costs of the Cheshire House to be £1,308 per month (as of June 2025) based on:
Gas: £504.75 per month
Electricity: £241.00 per month
Water: £121.58 per month
Broadband: £65 month
Council tax: £375.68 per month
Based on £1,308 per month, £250,000 would cover the essential running costs of the Cheshire House for over 15 years.
There are also optional services, such as a cleaner and gardener, that the winner may choose to engage, which we estimate would come to around £1,886 a month:
Window cleaning: £290 per month
Wellness Suite maintenance: £205 per month
Alarms: £50 per month
Cleaner: £1084 per month
Gardening: £240 per month
Gates access: £17 per month

Why on earth would you have a bathroom in a dressing room? On the original Rightmove entry, the "dressing room" is bedroom 4 and the "spare room" is the study - all of which makes sense. The Omaze floor plan is nonsense!

There’s no bathroom for anyone in the ‘spare room’ to use without invading one of the bedrooms

Surely the 'Spare room' would be an indoor study or games room, not a bedroom? You've already got 5 of those if you use the 'Dressing room' as the bedroom it was clearly intended to be (why else would it have an ensuite?!). The main bedroom already has a walk in wardrobe space and ensuite.
I think the house is absolutely gorgeous, and the lifts make it very practical for us older folk. I always said I wouldn't leave the seaside since we moved to the south coast, but for this one I would seriously reconsider...

CloverPyramid · 22/06/2025 19:15

People saying they wouldn’t want to live in Alderley Edge because it’s all footballers wives have clearly never been there. There are big flashy houses in the countryside around it, but it’s not really any different to any “nice” town/village in Cheshire (or any other county I’ve lived in).

I’m not a massive fan of the house itself, I think it’s quite unappealing on the outside. Too big and white and angular. But I do like the bedroom on the ground floor that opens onto the patio. I probably would sell it rather than live in it, but that’s true of most Omaze houses.

angelinawasrobbed · 22/06/2025 22:54

You’re right, Snook - I had somehow missed the other floor plan with the basement bedroom on it!

I'm already planning to put it straight on the market when I win! 😂

Me too. I loved the bath house and the one on the lake side in the lake district.

Just some information for any subscription holders. I recently had an email to say they were putting my £20 monthly subscription up to £25 from next month. This annoyed me a bit - as well as not having won a house of course or one of the other worthwhile prizes! - so I decided to cancel my subscription. It is £240 a year as it is and the increase would take it to £300 a year. That is not a small amount to most people! I like to support the charities but I can do that directly.

When I logged into my account and clicked cancel on the subscription page, then clicked too expensive on the reason page, I was then offered a 50% discount for the next 3 months to continue. I accepted that as it means I will pay £12.50pm which is better than the £20 I pay now and the £25 they wanted me to pay from August. In all likelihood I'll cancel after the 3 months is up but it seems worthwhile to continue until then.

I hope this helps someone else. Good luck everyone.

The Norfolk house is still tied up in planning problems tape by the sound of it and hasn't yet been passed on to the winner.

GrumpyToad · 30/07/2025 14:17

I have to agree with all the negatives about this Omaze house, I am guessing its going to be very difficult to sell.
Whom ever is the winner I see a big problem they have to face unless some one can correct me, where is the TV? there doesn't seem to be a place for the TV!!!😟

cathyandclaire · 30/07/2025 14:40

Thanks for this- I've taken the discount for three months too

I think there is a bathroom immediately opposite this room?

Me too. I only paid a tenner in the first place, which was worth it for a month-long fantasy, but it has gone up to £15, and the past few houses have been glass boxes that I would want to sell. The Cornwall one has fantastic views though.

I wonder how they get away without revealing any details about the odds of winning - which is contingent on number of entrants.

I did this and it said I would only be charged £7.50 instead of £15 but have just have £15 deducted. Don't know if anyone else had the same

Thanks for the warning. I've checked and the correct reduced amount has come out for me.

I wonder if you changed yours just too late for the system to update and take the reduced amount? I would contact Omaze and they should refund you.
