Murder 24/7

I watched this last night on iPlayer, anyone else seen it? They showed the police investigation of a murder of a DPD driver.

I just need to discuss it with someone as I found it shocking! Everything from the location, the volume of injuries/people involved, how the victim was tracked. They described the victim as being decapitated, just the fact that level of violence happened in the middle of Shropshire is mind blowing. I just can’t imagine how harrowing the must have been for the victim, the witnesses, the family. Even for the officers and the jury involved. The defendants lied and lied throughout.

I've been watching it and yes, it is shocking. The cold blooded violence was horrific. It's fascinating watching how the police have worked to find and charge the perpetrators.

I remember the murder when it happened because it was on our local BBC news but I didn't follow it after that. I've resisted googling it to see whether the men in the Mercedes were also caught, I hope so.

I also hope they are all deported once they've served their sentences.

Edited to add: there has been no mention of the other person who was in the van and I'm curious why not.

Toddlerteaplease · 18/06/2025 22:40

Catching up with it. Watched the first episode tonight. I’m not usually particularly shocked by these programmes. But this one is absolutely shocking. The level of violence was horrific. I thought it was ironic when the custody sergeant didn’t remove the defendants religious bangle. A religion known for being peaceful, kind and gentle. It couldn’t have been that important to him. To commit that much violence.

SirRodneyEfffing · 18/06/2025 22:49

I felt so angry watching this. How dare these thugs bring their violence to a residential street, on a lunchtime in school holidays. No regard for innocent members getting caught up in their gang warfare.

Yes, it is strange how no mention was made of the victims colleague. Where was he when the attack took place and why wasn’t he mentioned at all in the documentary?

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 18/06/2025 23:08

Witness protection maybe?

Awful crime. The level of brutal violence was horrific. None of murderers was very bright though. There was so much evidence against them including phone evidence, audit trail on the inside man accessing the van's whereabouts.

All over some scrap at a bloody Kabbaddi match. I never even realised

PunishmentRoundupWithJoon · 18/06/2025 23:32

The utter stupidity of the gang. So glad they were caught, and so quickly. Utter scum. Eight attackers against one man. Found it very interesting to see how they filmed from the helicopter without the offenders realising.

Apparently the four other individuals are yet to be accounted for?

@MissMarplesNiece @SirRodneyEfffing the colleague of the victim is shown and mentioned in the first part.

Firstly near the beginning, the narrating officer says they discovered a 2nd DPD driver. The image cuts to a man in a black top holding a DPD vest with blood splatter on his top. He’s behind the police tape asking a police officer if he can see his friend (the victim) and asking if his friend is okay. He seems extremely shaken and upset. The officer he’s speaking to just said he’s not okay, and the guy seems to bend over in shock.

Then when they get the doorbell CCTV from neighbours, the colleague is at the front door delivering a parcel whilst the victim is in the DPD van. The camera cuts off.

At some point in the series, it’s mentioned that when the killers came on scene, both DPD immediately tried to run away. The killers threw something at the victim which caused him to fall on the floor near to the DPD van, but presumably the other driver managed to evade them. He saw enough, to know his colleague was injured. I don’t think the police ever saw him as a suspect.

I don’t know what Kabbaddi is but the video footage of it is horrendous. The mass group of people attacking each other with weapons and firing guns. I can’t believe events like that are held in the uk…

I had a look. There were 8 killers in total, 4 in the Audi and 4 in the Mercedes. Plus a 9th offender - the inside man at DPD.

All of them have now been convicted aside from 2 men from the Mercedes. Apparently they fled to India. The other 2 in that car were caught, in Austria.

Also yeah, completely agree with the comments about deportation and their religion. I can’t believe that all these offenders were in the UK illegally and couldn’t understand English. The violence was extreme and feral. I too thought their religion was supposed to be peaceful! We can’t have people who think this behaviour is acceptable in the UK.

I’m also baffled that they had access to valuable cars like the Mercedes and the Audi? That filthy HMO/bedsit where the police found a gun, was where some of the offenders lived. How could they afford those cars?

Plus what is going on at DPD, where any random staff can access their driver’s routes. I’m surprised DPD hasn’t released a statement around staff safety.

There is obviously lot more going on than a fight over a kabbadi game. You dont get a gun tattooed on your neck for fun, it's there to let people know who you are, what you do and what you're prepared to do. Horrendous crime, vile people. A warning to those who haven't seen the 3rd episode, it will make you weep with despair.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 19/06/2025 10:11

The violence was awful. They should all be deported to serve their jail sentences in their own country. Whilst it was a hideous attack, nothing was said about the violence the victim was filmed committing in Derby and there was no explanation about why they were all fighting at all. They all came across as thick as pig shit and I wasn’t convinced they didn’t understand English. I’m sure the police said they were using translators to take sure that the ‘I didn’t understand what I was being asked’ card wasn’t played later. The weapons, violence and bare faced lying were shocking.

I had assumed the cars were stolen.

The 3rd episode was sad. That poor family, the strain that the dad was under was awful, no wonder he broke. Years ago I worked with adults who were similar to Gavin; the support they got from social services was negligible. I'm glad the judge was sympathetic. Such a contrast to the first case.

657904I · 19/06/2025 15:10

@JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn yes I agree with you

I’m not convinced the victim was violent in Derby because as you say, the police brushed over that. plus there’s no clarification in the media about the victim being a criminal.

The offenders did not state he was violent the day before in their defence either. Usually with gang violence, the victim is outright called out for participating in gang violence if that is the case.

There’s videos of the Derby kabaddi event online. Seems like a mass outbreak of violence between two gangs perhaps. It was supposed to be a family festival/sports match as opposed to gang meet up so might be wrong place/wrong time. I could imagine the victim was targeted due to being present or helping his mates as opposed to him actually being the main source of violence. Like a slight to the gang, as opposed to a serious crime committed.

@MissMarplesNiece it’s awful isn’t it. I worked in public sector for a few years and the places that exist to help the vulnerable can be the worst. I saw so many dodgy situations where people like Gavin were taken advantage of or just not given the right care.

FishPie2 · 19/06/2025 15:42

Although the injuries were dreadful the victim wasn't decapitated but had horrific head injuries which they showed as post mortem drawings on screen.
It was an honour revenge attack.

I watched all 3 episodes today (day off from work and hiding from the heat!)

I so agree with you. Poor Ivan, and poor Gavin. I noted at the end of ep 3 that a screenshot came up quoting that the Social Services had worked to support the family for a number of years and that offers of respite were not always taken up. This was from the actual SS not a BBC thing. Yeah, right.

What an incredibly nuanced situation that the law isn’t made for. And yes the judge made the right judgment here. I googled the actual statement from the judge as he laid down his ruling.

Snooks1971 · 20/06/2025 18:57

And the DPD murder. So shocking and 4 out of the 9 involved never captured?

MissMarplesNiece · 20/06/2025 18:59

Yes, @Snooks1971 , I thought "what a mealy mouthed statement" when I read the SS statement.

MedievalNun · 20/06/2025 19:00

I watched it and you can tell at one point that the perpetrators can understand English as they answer before the translator has started. Thank god at least some of the ones in the Merc were caught.

And I too bawled over the one in episode 3.

Snooks1971 · 20/06/2025 19:08

@657904I I know the police can’t tell us absolutely everything, but would you think there was more evidence to show that that the victim was actually involved in the Derby attack - not just someone wearing a DPD beanie?

Absolutely, I think the documentary would have confirmed it was the victim chopping someone in the DPD beanie if it was him. I’m sure the police explored that thoroughly, so there’s a reason they only said that the gang “thinks” it’s him.

Logistically, I doubt he would have been working at DPD the next morning, if he almost killed someone with an axe less than 24 hours beforehand? You’d think he’d be laying low given the footage was circulating on social media. Everything suggests the victim was unarmed and unaware of being a target, just living his normal routine…

The perpetrators were infuriating!

The way they were pretending to be shocked when they were arrested and in custody! Meanwhile they literally filmed themselves boasting with the bloodstained weapons before arrest.

Plus the ones that kept changing their story. The first guy was probably was the ringleader but was acting like an innocent bystander! He was so calculated and manipulative, even with the supposed language barrier. Then the inside man who thought the police couldn’t access text messages or DPD records and had that BS statement. I don’t know how police cope with dealing with people like this.

I watched the same as you and there were only 2 missing and the poor guy was not decapitated. Please when you watch it report the facts not what you think happened.
In the Aurman Singh murder case, where a DPD driver was fatally attacked in Shrewsbury, two individuals initially fled the country and were later arrested in Austria. These two, Mehakdeep Singh and Sehajpal Singh, were eventually found guilty of murder, along with five others, bringing the total number of those convicted to seven. The initial investigation also mentioned four other men who were believed to be at large, but these individuals were later identified and apprehended. Therefore, while initially some individuals were at large, all those believed to be involved in the attack were eventually identified and either convicted or arrested.
