Passport Renewal Photo - oh my god I am SO ugly!!!!

Just done my renewal online and DH has taken my photo for the renewal. Bloody hell I didn't realise how ugly I am. It was honestly a massive shock. One side of my face looks so different to the other, one eye is slightly wider, one nostril is more open than the other and I look hideous.

It has honestly knocked me for six. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

God I know the feeling. When I look in the mirror I think I look quite good, when I have any photos taken my nose looks huge and I look like a gargoyle. It doesn't matter if I smile or not, I've come to terms with the fact that I'm just not photogenic.

My current passport photo is awful. I took so many blimmin selfies and each looked worse and worse. Also dont think I look too bad in real life..id like to look better but have put on weight etc.
With passport I got to point of thinking sod it..only me and boarder control see it! Until this year when ive needed to give scanned copies of passport to so many people/companies...and they must all think what a state I am!!! 😕

I look like Eileen Wuornos in my passport photo. I'm not joking or exaggerating at all. I have absolutely awful eyesight, when I take off my glasses I am unable to focus and I've got one on the chips, one eye on the fish
That photo is there for a good few years yet. 🙄

My old driving licence picture looked like Myra Hindley after a stroke! It was awful!

I look like a demented ferret in my passport photo.

Went to the States last year and the bloke at the “illegal alien” desk looked at my passport, then looked at me and said “yes, unfortunately that’s you”.

Know the feeling. I took part in an event recently with an official photographer. Photos just been released. Everyone else looks amazing. I looked awful, really old and tired. I was so upset. I had been really looking forward to the photos as a memory of the day.

DH and I are about to renew ours. Don't worry, you may not like it now, but when you come to renew it in 10, you will look gorgeous on the photo.

I went to a beauty counter for pre-passport photo make up and made sure to almost-but-just-about-not smile...
still looks like a scary mugshot of a scary person.
and I discovered I have jowls. glamerous.

I suspect it's thd very frontal way and harsh lighting passport photos have to be.

If it helps.... I took a selfie for mine when I was having a "good day" and then just flipped it on my phone. It was accepted fine. I always look awful in photos, but this one will do. (The one in my last passport looked like a mugshot!)

If it helps most people look awful in their passport photo despite being perfectly pleasant looking in real life.

I had mine done by a real life person in Snappy Snaps. I had a cold and felt really rough so put on lots of make up to hide my red nose, put on false eyelashes, the lot. In the photos I looked like a drag queen with a streaming cold. I took two more sets in a booth and each was worse than the last. My son cackled evilly at the last set and said I looked like Aileen Wurnos. Charming. (I used the drag queen ones in the end.)

My husband looks like the Unabomber in his. In my son's first passport he had two black eyes (very accident prone toddler) and my daughter looked like Miss Piggy in her toddler passport. In real life we are normal looking, honestly.

I hate seeing myself in photos - both my passport and driving licence photos are utterly hideous. Seeing them was a profoundly depressing shock because I really don’t think I’m that ugly in person. Unfortunately I suspect I’m kidding myself because all 3 dc have fabulous passport photos which look just like them so sadly I think I probably am that ugly in person…

Me too! I just did mine lastnight it was terrible. My old passport looked great. I looked like a potato with uneven lips, crooked nose and dark circles. Didn’t even have time to redo today as it was urgent.

Mine looks like I should be in a line up. It's terrible! It didn't help the day I went to get it done at post office it was hail stones windy I was a mess. But it needed to be done then so I just thought sod it.

The ugliest I can possibly look is in the mirror at the hairdressers though. Other mirrors are fine, those are cursed.

My previous passport photo, I did my hair, ‘no make up make up’, and took several before I was happy with it. And it was fine.

But when I got it renewed last year, I was in such a rush that I couldn’t be bothered with all the faff. And it looks awful. I look like a serial killer nun from a horror film. My hair is so dark and I have awful shadows under my eyes.

I got over it by thinking it’s probably better to have a rough-looking photo and people think you look better in real life. The alternative being for someone to look at a decent photo, look up at the real thing and think ‘urgh what happened!’

(side-note: I commented on my photo being awful when I had to use it for ID the other day, and the lady didn’t stutter, she was just like: ‘it looks just like you’.) 🤣

Just a further note as well, if you’re worried about your looks. My grandma was just a typical old lady, but she had these enourmous smile-lines and wrinkles all over her cheeks. Conventionally not attractive to have so many wrinkles, but as a child I always thought they were beautiful because to me it was a marker of how much she must have smiled in her life! Everyone ages, looks fade for everyone. But if you have a happy life, it will show through in your face eventually. 🩷

This is exactly me, to the point where I actually dont know which is the real me, the mirror or the photos. I hope to god it's the mirror.

I had my last passport done in the post office. Honestly I wanted to punch the bloke who took it, my photo was so bad. I thought jesus mate, you could have shown me I'd have done another one. I should have asked to see it. Lesson learnt.

I absolutely feel your pain. I must have done the pics about 20 or more times in different rooms with different lighting, I finally got one that I thought looked half decent. However, my new passport arrived last week and I look like a hamster 🐹. I also didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. I have to keep this thing for like 10years and no I’m not replacing it because it was £100.

Mine is dreadful. On the day I got my photo done I actually thought I looked not bad, hair, makeup etc was all ok. So why in the photo in the passport do I look like the love child of Myra Hindley and Shrek?

We've just done ours in a booth too. We look like hardened criminals. Expect to see us on Crimewatch in the forseeable. I take comfort in the fact that, like doctors, they see lots of similar photos. Nobody else has to see them. The irony for us is that the holiday we were going has had to be cancelled, so we have no need for a passport anyway

Mine is horrendous as I went to a booth, took glasses off as instructed then couldn’t read the instructions so went to put them on and flash photo taken. Worst thing is they accepted it! Got to live with this for next 10 years 🤣

Passport and driving licence photos are always going to show you as minging, as you are so focused on not smiling.

well, that’s what I tell myself.

Mine is particularly terrible, because I was living in the US at the time, and they have different sized passport photos (Imperial vs. Metric). So once the photo had been taken, the man doing it had get it to the right size electronically by erasing round the edges. I therefore look like a serial killer who lost a fight with a pair of scissors and has a considerable part of her skull missing.

Im happy with how I look but god my passport picture makes me look liked I belonged on Crime Watch with an do not approach warning on it its awful.

I do not have a photo of myself I really like-even from years ago.

I try not to look at photos of myself- they always shock me, just avoid it, is my advice.
