Just been lurking on the feminist boards and saw that Labour have an old can of worms incoming as the role of women's officer has been targeted by the Trans Right's Alliance by putting forward a trans woman for the position - against party rules. I wonder how Keir's going to dodge his own hypocritical stance on this one? Not much room on this fence.

I haven’t been following that, if it’s against the rules then that should be adhered to

The one in one out is going to be interesting. The optics of moving those 50 migrants to the UK on top of crossings.

Two methods of entry for Labour.

WTAF?
I don't visit those boards often, I'd end up banned. Starmer must have splinters in his arse.

It's another gift for Reform.

I read yesterday that the southern European countries aren't happy about Macron agreeing to take some back.

I think it might be the biggest one yet. A merry go round of migrants in both directions plus crossings.

Yeah I agree.
John Healey was struggling to sell it on the media rounds this morning. Starmer just doesn't get it, and he never will. It won't stop him making a fool of himself this afternoon though.

At this stage I think bring it on. What a mess they are.

TheNuthatch · 10/07/2025 11:13

Yep, keep digging your own grave labour.

Rishi Sunak has been scooped up by Goldman Sachs.
I wonder who will want to employ Reeves at the end of her tenure? 😂

Let's not forget the other gift to Reform, former Tory MPs defecting. Former Tory party chairman now. Wowzers. And hints of more to come.

Upstartled · 10/07/2025 11:33

I think if, and it seems a distinct possibility right now, reform do well in the next g.e, then it will do well to have some experienced members in the party with some operational and strategic knowledge. The thought of hundreds of fresh MPs gathered from nowhere forming a majority party fills me with a hollow kind of dread.

Yes, agree. If that's the way the wind is blowing, having some experienced people will benefit us all.
Jake Berry is a very good communicator and will help Reform target northern labour seats. Johnson kept him close for a reason. Labour should be just as worried as the tories after his defection.
Also noteworthy that Berry backed Tom T for the leadership.

The thought of Reform having a majority is enough to fill me with a hollow kind of dread. Meanwhile today Badenoch is banging on about the ticking time bomb of the benefits bill, seemingly ignoring that it was her party that was in charge of it for fourteen years up to just 12 months ago. Labour don't seem to have the first clue what to do about anything at all.

They all just seem so totally hopeless. I can understand why so many are exiting the UK.

Yes agree with you there. If they’re going to get in may as well get some more with experience joining.

It’s genuinely a crisis point - we do need a national plan to get young people into work that’s thought through. I can see why so many people want change.

I read an article in the Times a few weeks ago by Fraser Nelson. He suggested a few things that could reduce welfare costs that were really interesting. He was using OBR figures so not pie in the sky. One was that telephone assessment for PIP claims had seen acceptance figures rise massively. He suggested that those people who may exaggerate their symptoms are less likely to do so face to face. Also telephone assessors were given a monetary bonus the more appointments they took. They fastest way to get the number of appointments up was to tick yes, so another possible reason for the rise in claims.
I cant remember the exact figures, but it was something like claims have gone from 40% acceptance to 70% since the introduction of telephone assessment.
Kemi could be onto a winner if she can come up with something viable.

I do feel there are better ideas out there in so many respects than what labour have managed to dredge up so far…on tax reform too, they don’t seem to be listening to experts.

TheNuthatch · 10/07/2025 15:44

They had <nasal voice> four....teen....years... to think about it and come up with a plan.

That press conference sounds like it was a damp squib.

More photo ops and shoulder handsiness over anything useful.

EasternStandard · 10/07/2025 19:43

Plus the Brexit thing was telling. When without anything that will help go back to that 😬

Upstartled · 10/07/2025 20:12

It did look dreadfully awkward, didn't it? I don't think that anyone will be convinced by that display. And again, messaging...who thought having turquoise on the lecterns was a good idea? Amateurs

Meanwhile, find out now
Reform 31
Labour 22
Conservatives 19
Lib Dems 13

TheNuthatch · 10/07/2025 20:32

I didn't watch it, but agree about the turquoise. It's the first thing I noticed when I looked at the pictures 😬.
So it's 17 in, 1 out? What a joke.

Thanks for the poll Upstartled. Looks like Reform are up 1, and conservatives up 3 from last week.

@EasternStandard absolutely re Brexit sounds very much like a sneer and punishment.

France is in turmoil i don't know how much longer he will last the riots and protests under Macron have been immense.
