Anyway today is a death knell for Labour let's just hope enough good MPs with experience defect to reform before they steam into power.
And let's hope too much damage isnt done in the mean time whilst we import huge amount of young men we do not need or wan and have no idea who they are.

EasternStandard · 10/07/2025 20:59

Tbf I didn’t watch either. No way can I handle that kind of thing 😬

Just picking up from news apps

TheNuthatch · 11/07/2025 07:55

UK economy shrinks for the second month in a row. Down 0.1% in May.
The Chancellor is "disappointed" again.

Yes, I saw that reported in the Telegraph. It's being framed as a 'surprise' drop in the economy. A surprise to who is beyond me, I think we are in to 'no shit Sherlock' territory now.

“Disappointed”

Blimey

Exactly

Arrearing50 · 11/07/2025 08:17

Exactly what I thought - anybody who works in the retail sector is not at all surprised…it’s been dead quiet since Jan…

TheNuthatch · 11/07/2025 08:18

Yes to no shit Sherlock territory.
Home Sec refusing to.say how many migrants would be returned to France under the new deal. More no shit Sherlock.

The illegal immigration is such a farce. There were 700 arrivals just yesterday, playing the trumpet about returning 50 a week is just silly. Keir wrangled an electoral win by claiming he would and could Smash the Gangs with an elite border force - where's that when small boat intake is higher than ever before and 40% higher than last year with acres of summer ahead of us - what a joke.

Oh and Reeves is delaying the ISA reforms that were expected to be announced on July 15th.

If you are wondering why this uturn delay is happening so quickly without the usual foot dragging and crying - it's because she's been rapped over the knuckles by the banks.

Upstartled · 11/07/2025 08:59

I'm not sure this summer relaunch is going very well 🤔

TheNuthatch · 11/07/2025 10:11

They can relaunch as many times as they like. If they remain incompetent, the results will be the same.

@Upstartled Has Reeves completely ditched the ISA reforms do you think? Sorry I don't have much time to read this morning. I'm dreading the budget.

There are lots of cameras pointing at the channel crossings this morning from what Ive seen on the news. Looks like it will be another high numbers day.

I think she has knocked the whole thing on the head for now @TheNuthatch but, you know, you never know what's coming next 😬

I was just reading about how the retail sector is doing @Arrearing50. Apparently June became the ninth consecutive month of decline. Online sales were up a little but it was small chips compared to the health of the high street.

Mind you, I'm looking at knitting out my youngest for secondary school and that should help things along 🫣

Upstartled · 11/07/2025 10:27

Kitting, not knitting, I couldn't knit a scarf.

EasternStandard · 11/07/2025 10:59

I’m guessing they won’t be wheeling out fastest growing economy in G7 anymore

Arrearing50 · 11/07/2025 12:16

do we think this relaunch is going to do anything to help growth? I reckon we’re in ‘let labour be labour’ territory now where they’ll go for taxes and spending on public sector.

because they don’t understand the private sector and their plans for growth aren’t working…

TheNuthatch · 11/07/2025 12:31

A tweet from Reeves calling for an emergency budget after gdp fell 0.1% in March 2022.
To add to the parallels, Labour cabinet are on an away day today.

Ruth Davidson:-
"So if Rachel Reeves thought a 0.1% contraction of the economy was grounds for an emergency budget for a Tory Chancellor, presumably we can expect her to bring one to the House on Monday?"

Unite have suspended Rayner's membership as they vote to re-examine their relationship with Labour. Trouble a'th mill.

Can you believe the Birmingham bin strike is still ongoing? Perhaps Labour supporters should focus their attention on that rather than banging on about Reform councils.

Ikr. Radio silence on mn about the long standing strike.

Poor people dealing with that all round. As for that tweet Reeves really doesn't know her arse from her elbow, just pointless quips and falling apart when actually in power.

Upstartled · 11/07/2025 13:14

Urgh, pity the poor sods living alongside that filth during this heatwave. It's third world. And yes, this is exactly what I think about when there is gnashing of teeth about reform councils and I am struggling to think of much which could be worse than raising kids among rubbish and rats.

That Tweet from RR is gold.
Labour were very good at carping from opposition, and saying what Tories should do (implying what they would do).
Stop the gangs, tax Amazon, tax the rich, go for growth - did they honestly think the Tories hadn't thought of that?
They are learning the hard way that it's not as easy as they thought and looking worried about something doesn't really cut it when it's on you to sort it.
How do we think Labour would react if the Tories has pledged to sort out the benefits bill by cutting PIP, axing WFP and abolishing EHCPs?
No prizes I'm afraid 😁

Upstartled · 11/07/2025 13:42

At this point I don't think they have any shame over their blatant hypocrisy. I would cringe in the most benign of circumstances had I been called out for being duplicitous and inconsistent - they just shrug it off.
