Speaking to his ministers at cabinet this morning, Sir Keir Starmer said 'we can all rightly look back with a real sense of pride and achievement' after a year in power, according to a read out from No 10.

What planet is he on 🚀😂

Seriously? It might have been best to make no mention of it.

Labour really are in their own bubble. They’re meant to be working for the rest of us, unfortunately.

An update on 'smash the gangs' <polite cough>.

Small boat arrivals have hit 20K in the first 6 months of this year.
Thats a 48% increase on the same period last year, which saw 13.5K people cross the channel in small boats.
Yesterday alone, 879 people crossed the channel.

Love the <polite cough> haha

I remember Labour posters on here so adamant it would work, as it was Starmer selling it in.

Arrearing50 · 01/07/2025 15:36

What do we think Angela’s policies would be? Probably a wealth tax, populist socialist stuff, an imf intervention? She’s popular in the party itself, didn’t Starmer try and get rid of her and fail?

She’ll copy Andy Burnham won’t she? In fact I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets parachuted in somehow. Not sure what job he does now, something to do with Manchester. He seems committed, articulate and real. I’d prefer him in power if I was Labour. Somehow he’s not very popular with his party 🤷‍♀️

CinnamonSquirrels · 01/07/2025 16:04

Burnham and Streeting are credible. Jonathan Reynolds also talks a lot of business sense. I can't understand posters wanting things to be a total disaster simply to thwart chances of Labour re-election. Do they not realise the damage and suffering this would wreak on people in the meantime?

Burnham is currently the mayor of greater manchester. He would need to stand and win a by election, or enter the house of Lords to be eligible. Last time I checked, he was the most popular with labour members, followed by Rayner, and then Streeting.

Pretty much this. Socialist / unions plus IMF bailout. Does she still go on about nuclear stuff not being needed? That would be concerning

Upstartled · 01/07/2025 18:03

Labour rebels are running amok saying they'll still vote against what remains of the bill, even after the new improved concession to basically kick it into the long grass. Maybe Starmer needs to spend more time on domestic issues, it's a shambles

It certainly is a shambles. Why dont they just pull it and go back to the drawing board fgs.

Estimated black hole from the U turns plus this new concession is £5.5bn.

I think this Timms review they are talking about is starting from the idea of having the 4 point rule, so this is a way of getting them to vote for it?

Upstartled · 01/07/2025 18:14

I don't know why they do half the things they do. Why did they make policy decisions before the Timms review, why didn't they see if it passed the sniff test with their own MPs, why have they worried people with disabilities without any hope or confidence to put it through, why did they make it so severe in the first place? It just makes no sense 🤷🏼‍♀️

Orangesandlemons77 · 01/07/2025 18:14

See

"Rebels were also promised that the Timms review of the criteria used to assess people for Pip would be a “co-production” with disability groups.
But the terms of reference of the review made clear that there would still be a higher bar for obtaining Pip – new claimants would need a high score of four in at least one of the categories for assessment in order to qualify. However, the review could look again at what abilities and conditions might meet certain scores."

Starmer set to offer Labour MPs further welfare bill concession

PM to make final attempt to get bill over the line with dozens of backbenchers still planning to vote against it

Seems that they thought the MPs would just kind of toe the line and vote for it and there wasn't going to be the kind of backlash they have had. Bit stupid really.

Agree. I think they assumed labour mps would just do as they're told.

Never thought I’d see the day when a barely literate woman with not a single GCSE would be touted as PM.

I think she’s under qualified for most actual jobs, she’s certainly under qualified for the highest office in the UK.

EasternStandard · 01/07/2025 18:36

So they’ve removed the four point thing until after a review is that right?

What a mess they are.

Oh right. Blimey talk about Labour creating their own problems.

Arrearing50 · 01/07/2025 18:52

Their domestic ‘strategy’ is in utter disarray at this point isn’t it? Guess Reeves has got three months to come up with a plan to cover the now yawning labour created black hole in the finances….

EasternStandard · 01/07/2025 18:57

What are they even voting on now. Voting on a review to see what to do?

Madness.

Upstartled · 01/07/2025 18:59

Worrying that there have been so many u-turns today that nobody has a clue about how much will be saved by the remnants. How do you vote on something like that, how can you make an informed opinion? This is just a vote on loyalty at this point and defeat will show that it is severely lacking.

EasternStandard · 01/07/2025 19:28

What are they even passing?

Is there anything left
