People drinking alcohol all day long on all-inclusive

I am watching people in our adults only hotel drinking cocktails all day long. By 10 am, the pool bar is pool. There is never any trouble, they sleep it off and get back on beers, sparky wine and cocktails. Then they have drinks before dinner, wine with dinner and cocktails at the main bars.

I am a little jealous as they seem to have a great time, laughing and socialising while more than one drink will keep me awake and sweating all night and tired all day, so I save myself for one beverage before dinner.

No big point to this post, other than marvel at our differences in alcohol tolerance. All mixed ages, people my age mid forties drink as much as anyone else.

These people are well seasoned drinkers, they’ll be used to drinking this amount on a regular basis.

Not necessarily. I barely drink at home, maybe 2 or 3 drinks a month. When I’m on an AI holiday, too right I’m making the most of it!

CeRaVie · 15/06/2025 16:06

The cocktails here are definitely not watered down, I enjoy watching them being made. I do wonder if it’s the quiet ones / low drinkers like me that are sad and pathetic, but I get my moneys worth in ice cream and smoked salmon 😂

That's very presumptuous and not always the case

How on earth can you tell if a drink is watered down by watching it be made they don't top it up at the tap. If its being watered down the alcohol will have already been watered down in the bottle

Cynic17 · 15/06/2025 16:17

Whilst I do drink alcohol on holiday, this "guzzle it down all day, just because it's there" mentality is just one of the many reasons why I would never, ever go on an AI holiday. Grim.

timetostarttheday · 15/06/2025 16:18

It’s worth mentioning that every time we’ve gone AL, the drinks are definitely watered down - often to the consistency of alcopops.

I don’t get the all day drinking thing but on holiday, I definitely love the 3pmish drinks before a leisurely dinner. Somehow being on holiday feels like you’ve got permission to do that.

Think what their livers look like! In no way is it admirable to drink all day long.

This.

Plus who wants to spend two precious weeks leave with a bunch of drunks. I've done it once, have avoided ever since. Just not my thing.

A couple of drinks with supper is my comfort zone.

summerscomingsoon · 15/06/2025 16:21

I'm a heavy drinker by anyone's standards. But even I can't drink before 4pm whether on holiday or not. If I started drinking in the morning I would be dehyrdrated and asleep by 2pm. then have a terrible headache and feel awful for the rest of the day.

As long as they aren't causing trouble then let them be. Maybe they aren't drinking loads - just slowly but continuously. Maybe it's the same people who eat all day at the pool bar/buffet too so soaking it up :)

🙄 some judgy comments on here….( not OP I hasten to add)

Some people like to go on hols, let loose as a break from stressful/busy lives and drink more than usual.
Some people go on hols, get up at the crack of dawn and walk 20k steps everyday sightseeing, some like to lie in and flop by the pool all day every day.
As OP said they are having a good time and not causing trouble for others do good on them.
Most of us save & sacrifice for a holiday so should be able to enjoy it however we choose without being frowned upon by others!

This annoys me! Because I try to avoid sugar but I’m happy to drink a proper drink. So watered down drinks are the worst of both worlds.

Anyone go any tips on how to avoid this? Beer I suppose.

They will look better then people who drink in a short period of time as the liver can't handle it. That's why people who drink throughout the day are sober and those who drink lots in a short period are not

I just find it really sad and pathetic. No
envy here! It does put me off going AI again though as the one time I went, I really didn’t get my money’s worth compared to the people who can eat and drink all day!

I find you sad and judgemental

Well, as long as they aren’t shouting at the top of their voices cackling and behaving like absolute arseholes. Which often happens.

I think that's more to do with the types of places your going on holiday

I love an AI and I don’t even drink alcohol
The cost of water all day , coke x 2 ? coffee x 3 and a daily ice cream more than makes it worth while
Such judgement on this thread

tammienorrie · 15/06/2025 16:30

I don't even think it's "watered down in the bottle", most AI places include local spirits/drinks in the package and if you want Stella beer or Smirnoff vodka you pay extra, so most people don't and stick with the stuff in the package. When you ask for a mojito, 9 times out of 10, they are not using Bacardi, they are using a rum brand you have never heard of which may well not be 40% proof like Bacardi, it'll be 30% or 25%. Then they add loads of juice, loads of ice.

WhineAndWine1 · 15/06/2025 16:31

The 1 thimble of sherry on Christmas Day lot are out in force today. I’m going on an AI shortly and more than likely drink during the day. Can’t wait to have a few iced lattes with bailies or a few Daiquiri before lunch and maybe a couple of Long Island ice teas after lunch around the pool. I’m not sad or pathetic nor a seasoned drinker.

tammienorrie · 15/06/2025 16:31

@66babe when we were in Fuerteventura last autumn I must have had a litre of Fanta lemon each day.

rosemarble · 15/06/2025 16:32

AI is only worthwhile imo if you are a seriously heavy drinkers so we usually go HB.

Me and DS2 (16) are going on our first AI holiday in early July. Is the resort going to be mostly people drinking most of the day?

No. Drink will be available and people may be taking advantage of that. But despite what MN says, most people will be doing all the stuff people usually doing on holiday around the pool, perhaps with a g&t rather than a cup of tea. People on here make it sound as if getting hammered is the main focus of the holiday and for 99% of the people that's not the case.

Unless you've booked AI on the 2025 equivalent of a 18-30 holiday in somewhere like Ayia Napa.

drspouse · 15/06/2025 16:39

I have never been AI and never will, we have been half board for skiing but this has all just confirmed why I never would!
