Trooping the Colour 2025

Ever since Queen Elizabeth died I have become less and less interested in the royal family and did not watch Trooping the the colour because they were lonely go on and on about Kate's outfit and how much it costs which I think is very vulgar. As for Charles I have never liked him or camilla either

I actually saw a picture of Kate's outfit and I didn't like it because it looked like something from the 1980s like from Dynasty

Doesn't sound like it's for you OP. I'd give it and all the news about it a miss if I were you.

I didn't get that on my phone at all. Perhaps it's your settings?

No I open up Google and when I do that it comes up with any updated news items and that was one of them

Same I used to love watching all those sorts of things but I have completely lost interest since the queen died.

ImagineHarder · 14/06/2025 18:09

Well, I actually watched some of it, and I think the RF is a horrifying anachronism. Disappointingly low in drama (no one fainted mid-March, no drum horse went nuts or produced a giant pile of droppings at a particularly dignified moment), Catherine dress was horrible, Charles had dirty gloves and Camilla had a great hat that kept threatening to blow off. The Wales boys were dressed like miniature civil servants.

Well, that’s the point of a monarchy, surely, that you get whoever’s next in line, however uninspiring?

Change your algorithm. I was getting the Indian air crash, the Israel - Iran situation, and some local news

I think they have lost a lot in the way of superiority when they queen died. As nice as I’m sure the family are, I don’t look up to them. Harry and Meghan are now in the realms of celebrity. William and Catherine seem resentful towards their roles, and I think that’s quite off putting When you see all their privileges and comfort they have. I think they appear a little work shy.

LeticiaMorales · 14/06/2025 18:15

"William and Catherine seem resentful"
They don't look resentful to me. Not at anything else they've been to recently. They always appear to be smiling and engaged.
They certainly were all smiles today!

I could not give a toss about any of them anymore and I don't think even Princess Anne's daughter was at Trooping the Colour and Princess Margaret's daughter should do more with the royal family than she does because she's Princess Margaret's daughter who was the queen's sister

It really did, didn't it? I was pleased to see her looming less drawn though. I had the telly on the back ground and was half watching to see if Louis would mess around 😉

Yet here you are starting a thread about them 🤔

Why would Zara be there. She's not been in recent years. She's not a senior or working Royal

Crinkle77 · 14/06/2025 19:34

I'm hoping that once Charles passes that William will modernise things and do away with a lot of the pompous pageantry and royal protocol.

It's not up to the monarch. This is an army occasion and they may wish to continue with it, whoever the Head of State is.

No more tripping the colour perhaps

Perhapses smile because you have to not because they want to and I have known others to do this it's all a show

Really? It seems a stretch to be able to judge a person's mental state as "resentful" when they are presenting as happy and positive?.
You don't know them.

Bigbadmama · 14/06/2025 20:36

I thought it was great ! BBC commentary was Clare Balding and some retired military chap talking about the regiments, explaining their training and the marching steps. Fantastic music all beautifully choreographed, amazing horses. Scant attention paid to the Royals but the children were well behaved and I LIKED Kates outfit. Camilla managed to hang on to her hat.
Compare this tradition and pageantry with what's going on in the USA at present and be grateful you live in the UK, where we are still a very liberal society with freedom of speech.

LeticiaMorales · 14/06/2025 20:46

@Bigbadmama I agree. The BBC coverage was interesting and informative. As you say, little about the Royal Family, the focus was on the regiment and the actual trooping. I liked the details about the horse and was amazed that the officer in charge had only just learned to ride a horse! The horses were lovely and so well trained.

I noticed the dirty gloves too!

I thought Kate’s outfit was dated but not as badly as Charlotte’s, which was dismally old-lady and faded looking. Though I am sure it cost an arm and a leg.
