Off to IKEA - what do I need?

On my list are towels and a new picnic blanket.

I will probably also buy some new tumblers as we’ve broken so many recently

But what do I need from IKEA that I don’t even realise I’m missing??

OP posts:

Sandwich bags in every size! So strong, never tear or leak

ObtuseMoose · 14/06/2025 08:47

A sock octopus thingy.

Iamthemoom · 14/06/2025 08:59

Kitchen scissors always. The set of three.

confusedlots · 14/06/2025 09:01

Definitely the sandwich bags! A real plant and also some fake plants for your bathroom.

Thisiswhathings · 14/06/2025 09:02

Folding storage boxes of any size

Yes this is what I was coming on to suggest. They are the best sandwich bags ever!

Maaate · 14/06/2025 09:04

IKEA will tell YOU what's needed

sundaysunday2024 · 14/06/2025 09:09

Definitely a sock-topus or two!

Packets of meatball sauce to bring home
Ketchup
Skubb (?) bedroom drawer dividers

NuffSaidSam · 14/06/2025 09:12

Those clips that keep packets closed.

Probably some candles.

If you have kids, a big roll of paper.

Weedkillerworks · 14/06/2025 09:15

Sandwich bags, mustard, laundry bag (for kids/teens), kitchen knives, freezer clips.

GameOfJones · 14/06/2025 09:17

Candles

Real plants

Packets of napkins

Those biscuits that are like a jammie dodger but have chocolate in the middle

Bootsnall · 14/06/2025 09:25

You need to find the exit - fast

ScottBakula · 14/06/2025 09:35

A map ,
a loaf of stale bread to leave a bread crumb trail,
kendal mint cake,

Tracking device so you can findcyour other half / dcs when you have turned your back for 30 seconds.
Pj's so you can stay overnight

growinguptobreakingdown · 14/06/2025 09:36

I second the sock octopus -I'm taking mine on holiday!
The fabric extra kitchen sink drainer.
I have a clothes rail which fits to the wall about my radiator in the utility which about £8 and I hand loads of clothes on to dry daily. It's my best Ikea buy.
The £3ish metal shoe racks you can stack up on top of the plastic tray you buy separately has given us loads of show space in our hall cupboard. We have 3 levels.

Jollyjollyjollygoodie · 14/06/2025 09:36

What’s a sock octopus?

TicketyBoo11 · 14/06/2025 09:38

Cushion covers..fabulous fabric, beautiful patterns…

ThisCatCanHop · 14/06/2025 09:39

Those worktop protector thingies that you put under hot pans and oven trays. 3 for £2.

Loo brushes. Vastly superior to all the other cheap ones.

Any storage solution for any corner of your home.

Klippits.

Any new pans - all their 365 range is brilliant and you can also buy universal pan lids that are made out of silicone and don’t have to exactly match the size of the pan.

A stop in the cafe for meatballs or cake.

ThisCatCanHop · 14/06/2025 09:40

Oh yes, and a socktopus or three! @Jollyjollyjollygoodie , they allow you to dry about 8 pairs of socks hanging off one hook. Or anything else small and dangly.

DelboytrottersDnecklace · 14/06/2025 09:40

It's one of those gadgets that you hang on the washing line to hold undies and socks to save space on the line

It's shaped like an octopus-you hang the undies/socks on its legs (which has pegs on it)

I must have got a dodgy one as it lasted about 4 months before the legs fell off

I ended up buying a plain one on ebay

DiamondLily · 14/06/2025 09:43

Tea lights and paper napkins, I’m afraid you’re not allowed through the checkout without them no matter how many cupboards full you already have at home 😳

Etheral · 14/06/2025 09:45

As others have said, definitely a sock octopus or 2 or 3, also some big Ikea bags

Marianwallace · 14/06/2025 09:45

365 porcelain dinnerware. DS2 has it and I prefer it to my similar but far more expensive Denby white. And wooden chopping boards, bloody gorg.

ScottBakula · 14/06/2025 09:47

I know everyone raves about this socktpuss and it's great for socks ( obs) knickers and suchlike but do the sell square ones ?
I have a old one that I can't remember where I bought it from but it's great for t-shirt, pot towels, and the usual undies range.
I have bought them from b&m , supermarkets, quality save ect but they break very easily https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/pressa-hanging-dryer-16-clothes-pegs-green-90579157/

A storage solution that you didn't realise you couldn't live without.

Napkins

Tea lights, obviously.

A pack of warm cinnamon buns on your way out to eat in the car

Some funky cushions for your garden furniture

A small metal watering can for indoor plants
