Lovely places for me and DP to eat in Cambridge

Can anyone recommend a nice pub or restaurant for a meal for two in central Cambridge? We’re quite foodie but it is not a special occasion - just looking for something interesting to eat. I can’t think of anything specific we don’t like. We haven’t been to Cambridge before so even local institutions, we haven’t been to.

They have a fantastic Indian vegan restaurant. Yes, i was v surprised too but it was fab! Really unusual but delicious food. Namaste Village - teensy bit out of the centre but worth the walk..

Thank you - sounds interesting. We had vegan Indian quite recently and it was delicious. Might want something different this time, but will definitely bear it in mind.

It's not a romantic restaurant type place, but Bread and Meat is my favourite place to eat in Cambridge. Amazing sandwiches and poutine.

Parkers Tavern is meant to be really good for something more fancy (I haven't been but a foodie friend loves it.)

Came here to say exactly this. Bread and Meat is fantastic. But the actual place is tiny and very crowded so if the weather is nice get a take out and go and sit by the river.

No 22 is amazing, but you probably can't get a table at short notice.

I think you mean The Eagle, though I don't think the structure of DNA was actually discovered in the pub!

I used to go to Cantab regularly with DH b/c he was an old boy.
We liked the wine shop just across the river from Magdalen for interesting wines and fun small plates. We also had a good dinner at the Chop House and at FitzBillies when they were down by the museum. Further out from the centre is Restaurant 22 and near it is a swanky wine shop with a food truck relationship.
Daytime, mid-centre, I recommend Pie Shop for interesting beer and good snacks (Scotch egg).

If you're looking for something interesting to try, I'd really recommend going to the Bedouin - lovely varied & fresh food, great atmosphere and the staff are very nice too!

The Oak Bistro is on Lensfield Road and the food is real quality. The fillet steak is particularly delectable!

motherstongue · 09/06/2025 20:24

I echo DinoGD. Go to Bedouin. It is fab.

imacroissantgirl · 09/06/2025 20:26

I’d go to Fitzbilly’s, buzzy place, friendly staff and good food. There’s a cafe on the right and the restaurant on the left of the same building plus you can buy their famous buns. Does get busy though!

EnchantedEvidence · 09/06/2025 20:28

I like Bedouin, Little Petra is always busy whenever I go by. I was a little disappointed last time I went to bread and meat. I’ve enjoyed breakfast at the Tiffin Truck. I would recommend Aromi as a tourist for a quick lunch or at least try the ice cream.

I was also coming on to recommend Bedouin. Lovely atmosphere and great food.

Another vote for Bread and Meat. And the pizza place on the same road - buy it by the slice and have it as take out.

ChristmasLightsLover · 09/06/2025 20:34

Aromi - that’s the name for the pizza by the slice place. And Jack’s Gelato for ice cream!

user1470010735 · 09/06/2025 20:35

Little Petra. Jordanian. The chicken schwarma and baba ganoush are AMAZING. It’s not really in central Cambridge - more out towards the train station but it’s worth the walk.

Oh yes, you have to go to Jack's after.
