Lovely places for me and DP to eat in Cambridge

Can anyone recommend a nice pub or restaurant for a meal for two in central Cambridge? We’re quite foodie but it is not a special occasion - just looking for something interesting to eat. I can’t think of anything specific we don’t like. We haven’t been to Cambridge before so even local institutions, we haven’t been to.

Fancett’s. A superb French Bistro. Definitely not a pizza place. Something special.

Amazing! What an array of recommendations - thank you all so much. I will spend the rest of the evening googling!

I think you mean The Eagle, though I don't think the structure of DNA was actually discovered in the pub!

Yes The eagle 🤣 wrong bird

The Ivy
Bread and Meat
For a bit of history The Falcon. Where dna double helix was discovered.

It’s the eagle, rather than the falcon. Don’t eat there though.

little Petra is lovely food, but very casual. Chop house is nice and view is lovely. Oak Bostro is nice and sitting into grden is lovely if the weather is nice. There are some good independents on mill road, for example if you like fish fin brothers is great.

I haven’t been, but have heard very good things about Buren on Mill Road.

Travel back in time about 28 years and go to Hobbs Pavilion for pancakes. 😭

Oh yes, you have to go to Jack's after.

Beat me to it! Brilliant ice creams/sorbets.

Photo of sample flavours attached. (Options change every day.) You might need to zoom in. Plus check the date...

Just adding how much I admire your user name!

So, while I was googling and daydreaming, DP went rogue and booked off his own bat. We went to Raja, on King Street, and the food was fantastic - just delicious curry and a Bombay cafe-style atmosphere. It really wasn’t busy, which was a shame, but I heartily recommend it. I had the Kashmiri lamb curry, v tender and just right medium spice level. DP had the ‘Shere Khan’ chicken curry which came with a warning, a bowl of yoghurt and an extra napkin. Much too hot for me, but he loved it. Every bit of the dinner was excellent, even the unusual chutneys.

Thank you for all the recommendations again - we’ll have to come back. Thought I would repay the favour.

I've just seen the list of gelato flavours! What on earth would WD 40 taste like?! 🙃
