I had some new passport photos done to day and OMG i look awful.
I cant send them in no way.
Honestly it looks like im in shock like someone as a gun pointing at me.
I have no eye brows and pale i look like a scared ghost.
Going back to re-do them any tips on what i can do so i look half decent.
I dont wear make-up but i think this calls for it.
And how can i look like i do have a neck.
My hair was all pulled back i looked bald.
Please any tips on what i can do for my second round of pics.

Definitely put on makeup. I got some taken in a high street shop and I looked so hideous I couldn’t use them. Splashed on makeup and went back and had them done again. Now I do my own at home so I can have loads of goes!

BB cream is good - it's basically just a tinted moisturiser type thing. Then add a bit of colour to your cheeks with a blush and some mascara to make your eyes stand out, and a bit of colour on your lips (gloss is fine - I never wear lipstick).

I think after a certain age, hair pulled back severely does reveal an anything other than perfect hairline so maybe have it softer round your face.

bluesinthenight · 08/06/2025 23:19

I didn't wear make up for mine either and look terrible in it. I have to live with that for 10 years now.

I am hoping that I get stopped at Border control because some official thinks that the person in the photo bears no resemblance to me.

Go to Boots ask for them to do your make up, it's free they just try to encourage you to buy some of the no7 products afterwards.

Thats a great idea.

Everyone looks dire in the photo. Whenever I travel abroad I always look flustered and nervous and a bit disheveled. My photo has me with one earring missing and a big wonky bit in my ponytail! Pretty accurate depiction.

But if I looked good in the photo they wouldn't think it was me! 🤣

cheesycheesy · 08/06/2025 23:23

I look like a serial killer in my passport photo. Who cares it’s hardly ever used.

doglosttooth · 08/06/2025 23:24

My passport photo looks as if I am on crack cocaine..I really struggle with keeping my eyes open for a photo 😭So my photo is rubbish but I don’t care TBH as long as I get through passport control!!

dollyblue01 · 08/06/2025 23:24

I’ve learnt it’s best to get it done professionally it’s once every ten years and worth paying extra for it.

jasdf · 08/06/2025 23:27

I did my last passport photo on my phone. It was a selfie so I could get it exactly as I wanted without worrying about the photographer!

So easy to tint your own eyebrows, get the stuff off amazon. I do mine once a week as my eyebrows are blonde without

can you recommend a brand?

chilling19 · 08/06/2025 23:34

I remember going through passport control in Australia and the guy behind the desk laughed. I laughed with him because what can you do? Passport photos are horrendous.

The head angle is you keep chin neutral but jut your head fwd
Professional headshot peeps told me to pretend I was a turtle.
It works.

Eyebrows - get brown gel its not so scary and is buildable.

Separately dont be so hard on yourself.

I am struggling to envisage - but fascinated by a - the turtle thing. 🐢 What is this aiming to achieve besides looking like a turtle?

UneasyMe · 08/06/2025 23:41

No need for photo booth / pro shots!

Spend £10 on a mobile phone compatible tripod and remote control and take your own.

Just got my new one. It's not great because of course you can't smile. I wore my usual makeup (BB cream, eyeliner, sheer powder, blush)but tbh wish I'd worn a bit more. I should at least have used some concealer under my eyes and some lip gloss as I look like I have no top lip.

We took ours at home, you just need a light, plain background and then upload the photo on the application and it tells you if it has a good chance of being accepted. Mine didn't at first because of the lighting, tinkered with that and then it passed muster.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 08/06/2025 23:46

Defining your brows really helps. I have a really good cheap one by revolution " fluffy brow" or something. It's a pencil at one end and fixing gel on the other
I can't wear Mascara as eye drops for Glaucoma make my lashes fall out!
perhaps just a swipe of tinted lip balm like the Vaseline rosy shine would be nice

doglosttooth · 08/06/2025 23:47

Just get a picture that covers the criteria that is ok . Don’t worry about vanity!

murasaki · 08/06/2025 23:47

My nose sèems to have vanished on mine for some reason. I'm constantly surprised the scanners let me through.

I look like Voldemort with long hair.

Only 2 years to renewal.....

MolluscMonday · 08/06/2025 23:49
  1. Hair down
  2. More make up than you think
  3. Do it at home on your phone and upload them!
Oxo01 · 08/06/2025 23:50

I got pics done in a shop some years ago, it was a bit more expensive £15 for 4 or 6 pics and they email you them with a code.
I looked absolutly awfull as I looked like i had a black eye ( due to a eye infection/ condition) but they were able to adjust the photo a few times to improve it. Money well spent.

EconomyClassRockstar · 08/06/2025 23:54

I kind of like it when my passport photo looks awful as I get compliments from the passport people that I am better looking in real life. At 52, it's the little things 😂

Moveoverdarlin · 08/06/2025 22:44

No way in a million years would I have passport photos taken of myself wearing no make-up.

Lol same!!!

Polo neck. Hair down and preferably swirling around the jawline. An Amanda Burton 'smile', and a trio of eyeliner, mascara and eyebrow pencil. Otherwise, maybe holiday in Scotland?

spikefaithbuffyangel · 09/06/2025 00:14

I put a LOT of makeup on for my driving license photo and hair down, had it taken as the post office
I actually look decent in it! Went heavy on brows and mascara

Needsleepneedcoffee · 09/06/2025 00:23

LOL I think I might be the only person who likes my passport photo! But I did hand it over to vote, and the woman didn't believe it was me, she asked what happened since the photo. I said two children who don't sleep!!

Don't go too heavy with things, hair down, give it a blow dry, it'll give you some volume and make you feel polished. If you're in a larger town with a john lewis or similar, instead of buying products you'll never use again, go to a make up counter and ask for a make over, explain you don't wear make up, you don't want anything too heavy, but you want to look healthy and a little bit polished for your passport photo.
I think it's about £25 from most places. You'd spend more than that on a brow gel, tinted moisturiser, mascara, blush and lippy...then have to faff with doing it too.

Oh and max spielmann do passport photos for £16, and they'll check you're happy before you pay
