Due to what I can only describe as restless body syndrome. My body will not stop moving at rest. It’s like my bones are moving, really weird uncomfortable sensation, more so in my abdomen.
Tuesday night I didn’t sleep a wink, Wednesday night I was prescribed x3 sleeping tablets, even they aren’t making me sleep. I’ve even smoke some weed just to try and knock myself out but nothing NOTHING is working.
Done well the usual stuff like take magnesium, hot water bottle, baths, etc etc
To top it off my husband had keyhole surgery Monday and apparently I’m making it all about me 😭🤕

I’m on some heavy duty meds which knock me out but I went through a period where I was waking DH because I was having spasms and twitches all night. Turns out I was deficient in Vit D and when I started my prescription for that, the spasms stopped and I was finally still at night.
Is that a possibility?

jimmyeatworld · 07/06/2025 09:53

Possibly. I had bloods done a while back so I will check on nhs app

jimmyeatworld · 07/06/2025 09:55

Seems they didn’t check my vitamin levels.
Can see my iron and ferritin though. Ferritin is 29 and TIBC whatever that is is higher then the range

Poor sleep occurs when you get menopausal. Could it be that? If so, HRT sorted it (and quickly) in my case. Good luck 🍀

Invisabledisappearingperson · 07/06/2025 10:01

Your ferritin is a bit low, you should be prescribed iron tablets especially with your restless problems.

I also take Pramipexole, which can be prescribed for restless legs. It’s been a complete game changer for me. The iron tablets and the Pramipexole have completely stopped me jumping about when I want to sleep.

I’ve just bought some Spatone will see if that helps. The doctors said my iron is fine but have had issues with it before, faintness etc

Have you tried staying up to say 1am and seeing if that helps? I have really bad sleep issues and sometimes do this, I also get bad restless legs.

Orangesandlemons77 · 07/06/2025 11:51

Sounds like anxiety, are you very stressed?

soupyspoon · 07/06/2025 11:56

Whats your physical activity/stretching like in the day?

If you can afford it its worth going for private testing I think for bloods.

jimmyeatworld · 07/06/2025 12:05

Yes I stay up anyways as I know getting in bed what’s going to happen. Last night I was awake til 3am then just woke up on the sofa this morning.
the zopiclone isn’t helping, just making me tired so I’m stumbling about but won’t actually put me to sleep!!! It’s like the restlessness is fighting it.
activity levels are fine, I have 2 under 3 so am chasing them around all day, infact just walked a couple of miles to the local retail park. I’m so confused today because of the tiredness. I think I must’ve had about 12 hours since Monday night when I last slept properly.

I really feel for you OP. I used to get that a lot & it’s awful, so uncomfortable & really frustrating. Do you drink? I’ve been way better since I quit actually. Not saying you’d have to give up but maybe avoid alcohol too close to bedtime. Caffeine too. Have you had your Vit B12 checked? Mine was too low & the difference generally once I started 3 monthly injections was amazing. DF used to have tonic water for his restless legs (think it was the quinine)

Don’t drink but funnily enough I was considering having some whiskey tonight just to see it it’ll knock me out ! Maybe I can mix it was tonic water 😆

when I had restless legs in pregnancy, a friend told me to tie a sock around the end of my foot near my toes - weirdly it massively helped!

Sayithowiseeit · 07/06/2025 12:37

Melatonin to help get to sleep. Try swapping the zopiclone for zolpidem.

Tying a sock around your foot helps, and it sounds really odd, but a vibrator turned on on the affected part weirdly seems to help me with my restless body feeling. I found that out by accident.

beAsensible1 · 07/06/2025 12:39

Have the offered you diazepam as you might also need a relaxant not just a sleeping pill

Octonaut4Life · 07/06/2025 12:40

It does sound like it could be vitamin issues. I had low potassium when I was pregnant and had similar issues. I would definitely push to get bloods done and get onto a hefty multivitamin and perhaps extra via juices etc. Have you had any issues with an upset stomach etc? Sometimes that can cause vitamin deficiencies.

jimmyeatworld · 07/06/2025 12:58

It just came on Tuesday night from nowhere. I’ve got it on the past on and off, and in one of my pregnancies it was pretty bad but this is another level. Usually if I get it it’s one night then it stops, this has been 4 nights now all night until I just pass out for a couple of hours.
I’m really irritable today I’m guessing as the lack of sleep is catching up with me.
I just want to sleep, I’m scared to go to bed. And can’t see a go until Monday now.
They won’t give me diazepam, I had to beg for the zopiclone.

Also I tried megadosing vitamin c last week for a few days, about 4000mg a day for maybe 4 days.
Could that have caused this?! Haven’t had none for two days now

OP posts:
Richandstrange · 07/06/2025 13:03

Can't add much to the advice and suggestions already given about the cause but might a weighted blanket help in the short term? I steal my DD's (as long as she's not using it!) when my rls gets particularly bad and it really helps.

caramac04 · 07/06/2025 13:56

Do you drink coffee? If I have caffeinated coffee after 2pm I cannot sleep and I am really restless and ‘wringing my feet’.
I had a coffee, stupidly, at 3pm yesterday and was awake until almost 5am.
I will try the sock thing if I struggle again.

candycane222 · 07/06/2025 14:02

Interested to hear about the sock thing. I don't have this anything like as bad as op -that must be awful - but I do find pj bottoms and bed socks help, even if I don't need anything on my top half.

Seems to be a lot of useful avenues on here to explore re vitamin levels etc, really hope you get this sorted.

jimmyeatworld · 07/06/2025 14:20

I actually have some compression socks from pregnancy I think, worth a shot ? Otherwise what’s this about tying a sock around your foot ?

Google “tying a sock on foot for restless legs” and you’ll see an image of what I mean, sorry really hard to describe!
