Due to what I can only describe as restless body syndrome. My body will not stop moving at rest. It’s like my bones are moving, really weird uncomfortable sensation, more so in my abdomen.
Tuesday night I didn’t sleep a wink, Wednesday night I was prescribed x3 sleeping tablets, even they aren’t making me sleep. I’ve even smoke some weed just to try and knock myself out but nothing NOTHING is working.
Done well the usual stuff like take magnesium, hot water bottle, baths, etc etc
To top it off my husband had keyhole surgery Monday and apparently I’m making it all about me 😭🤕

It sounds like something called akathisia. Are you on any other medications? Metoclopramide makes me feel like this.

get some ferrous fumerate from the pharmacy OP, the NHS acceptable levels for ferritin are ridiculously low, especially for women - 50-100 is optimal

I know exactly that feeling you are describing.
So frustrating as it’s physiological and feels so out of your control that breathing and mindfulness etc just don’t help.
Mild anti-depressant helps me - 15mg Mirtazapine. It was first prescribed to me about 8 years ago when I was a full blown insomniac and have stayed on it as helps me stay level with my anxiety.
I’m on high strength iron as levels were deficient, my stores are gradually building back up. Other vitamin levels are ok though.
I also have a weighted blanket which helps and weirdly one of those maternity pillows - I’m a side sleeper and have to have something between my knees - almost like an anchor to stave off the restless legs.
I do all the stuff like trying not to look at phone in evenings, bluelight glasses, magnesium, melatonin etc, but sometimes my body is just so twitchy!
Solidarity and sympathy - it’s horrendous. Hope something works for you soon. xx

Sounds like restless leg syndrome. I had this for a couple of years until I went to my GP about it. It is a horrible illness and drove me almost to breaking point.

Luckily it’s fairly easily treated with a dopamine agonist such as ropinirole. This will transform your life. Nowadays I get an attack about twice a year. A massage gun on your legs or a vibration plate will help, as will a hot bath or compression stockings but it’s the specific medication that will make the biggest difference.

Is it circulatory then?

Take a hayfever tablet around 5pm, will knock you out for around 9. Can last a few days for some people though so be warned, but sounds like you could do with lots of rest anyway.

Antihistamines make my jumpiness even worse.

Pramipexole is a game changer.

I use Nytol. The 25mg is enough for me, I only need to take them for a few nights. They work in about 15 mins.

jimmyeatworld · 08/06/2025 07:29

Can low ferritin cause rls?
I had a better night last night legs wise, I used compression stockings which seemed to help.
I did have the diaphragm flutters last night and managed to convince myself I have early signs of motor neurone disease though !!

I have anxiety and ocd anyway but controlled with escitalopram 20mg

How long have you been on the Escitalopram?

It can give you restless leg syndrome.

As a pp said mirtazapine is worth discussing with your GP.

Since maybe last September I think.
