Masks seem to be back..

Has anyone else noticed this? I've seen a marked increase in people wearing them - in the bank and on transport for example.

Have I missed something?

Very far from either actually. But it would seem you suffer from the former.

Oh I think this person was agreeing with you!

Every fucker seems to be coughing and sneezing at the moment, so I'm not surprised. For goodness sake, if you're coughing and sneezing, stay the fuck at home!

It's hay fever season so no, I won't 'stay the fuck at home' because I'd never go out in the summer if I stayed home when I'm coughing and sneezing.

Jesus, I thought I'd gone back in time to 2020 🙄

Yes, expecting everyone who has a cough to stay at home is the height of entitlement and stupidity. People who don't want to encounter anyone who's coughing should stay the fuck at home themselves.

@Buxusmortus Oops. I was responding not to you, but to the person criticising you. I just linked the wrong part of the post. I’m in favour of mask wearing when necessary. I do so myself, for health reasons, sometimes.

So sorry, I apologise, I got the wrong end of the stick and thought you were referring to me.

I've never stopped wearing them on flights, trains, buses, theatres and cinemas. Often I'm the only one, but as I've never had COVID I shall continue wearing them in those circumstances forever.

You may find it prudent to expand this useful practice to the bath, shower, country walks on a hilltop or mountain, kayaking, abseiling, knitting...

Some people like to draw attention to themselves or make out that they are vulnerable. Quite sad that they don't understand that masks do nothing practical

Do try not to be a prat.

Have you considered support for anxiety?

CommonAsMucklowe · 08/06/2025 20:04

You'll never get me in one again. Unless they are N95 they are a complete waste of time, I worked two jobs and wore one for ten hours a day, provided by my employer, they were cheap crap from China. What a waste of time.

Sorry, just caught up with the full thread and realised you've already been asked this.

i see a few wearing them but no more than normal. I’m not going to I don’t care what I get told.

I wore one on a 12 hour flight back in 2012 - mandatory. All people did. I even used hospital wipes to clean the seat etc. Ended up with COVID. Absolutely useless and the science has proven they are useless.

Took same 12 hour flight this year no masks and no sickness at all.

MixedBananas · 08/06/2025 20:07

And yes I seen lots of people more then last couple years started to wear them. Mainly elderly.

I presume you imagine you're amusing - FYI you aren't.
Absolutely pathetic that you obviously get a thrill from attempting to have a dig at someone who does something that has no effect on your life whatsoever.
If I choose to wear a mask in crowded indoor environments kindly inform me why that irritates you so much, and ask yourself why my doing that has that effect on you.

Science has shown that FFP2 masks, which is the type I wear, do have a protective effect for the wearer.
I can guarantee that on flights and other places when masks were compulsory, people were wearing either cloth or basic surgical masks and not wearing them properly, so that protection was minimal. That's why you caught COVID.

Tryonemoretime · 08/06/2025 20:26

Caught Covid in Jan 2021. Very mild - but serious Long Covid 2 hit straight afterwards. At one time, I was so ill with LC, that the doctor took one look at me and sent me straight to A and E. After over 4 years I'm now almost completely better, but a 5,000 step walk gives me fatigue the next day. I don't want Covid a 3rd time, but the last 2 vaccines made my heart race and the Dr suggested I don't have any more. There are probably lots of people who have LC and can't have the vaccination. Many will be wearing a mask. But if you have a cold that you think could possibly be Covid, please wear a mask. You might give Covid to someone and it might develop into Long Covid with them. LC lasts ages and I couldn't have looked after a family or gone to work with the terrible fatigue, breathlessness and brain fog that's part of it. It's a nasty illness with long term repercussions for some.

on the contrary, participation in a bizarre cult of whipped-up fear ruined countless lives; a destructive effect that continues 🤨

MiddleAgedDread · 08/06/2025 21:11

Someone had one on on my flight last week……wearing it round her chin! 5 years and these people still walk amongst us!!

TheHouseElf · 08/06/2025 21:34

Thankfully I've not noticed this where I lived. I don't care if its the Black Plague, I'm not doing that nonsense ever again.

You sound deranged, maybe stop getting your information from conspiracy forums. Wearing masks didn't ruin countless lives. I'll ask you again, why does it upset or affect you if I or anyone else wear a mask?

JohnTheRevelator · 08/06/2025 22:16

Masks? They can just fuck off.

TubeScreamer · 08/06/2025 22:48

Yes, I noticed several people wearing masks in Nottingham last week. A couple even had umbrellas up even thought it wasn’t raining (and hadn’t been) or sunny, so we concluded that was to help keep the Covid away too

ColinCaterpillarsNo1Fan · 08/06/2025 22:59

I'd wear it on a flight as dccaught covid recently flying back from Turkey & was knocked out for a week. So in an enclosed space with recycled air like public transport, it's advisable to wear a mask. You'll see a spike in covid cases after the summer holidays.
