Inspired by another post about what people can’t do.. what CAN you do?

I can:
Whistle through my tongue when it’s rolled up
Play the piano and guitar by ear (not at same time)
Remember birthdays
Balance on one foot for a VERY long time without wobbling

All useful life skills, as you can imagine.

Learning languages. I find it unusually easy to pick up new grammar and vocabulary and I seem to have an exceptionally good ear for accents.

Me too. Languages just seem to make sense to me in a way that they do not to other people.

Also a whizz at sewing, knitting and crochet.

I’m a T1 diabetic and after years of injecting insulin I now have the sugar/carb content of a ton of foods and drinks memorised.

Aria999 · 03/06/2025 20:46

Remembering the first letter of a word or name I am trying to think of, without being able to remember the rest of it.

Crochet

Putting myself down.

Pricelessadvice · 03/06/2025 20:55

Hula hooping. But only the weighted ones.
I can go for as long as needed but barely look like I’m moving at the same time. It’s effortless.

Coping with death. I am weirdly matter of fact and can just keep going without any fuss, even when it’s someone very close to me. I find people who let grief overwhelm peculiar, because it’s so alien to me.

changedusernameforthis1 · 03/06/2025 21:05

I'm amazingly calm in an emergency. I have CPTSD and anxiety issues, but oddly I react really well in a traumatic or extremely stressful moment.
It will be a day or two later that I really "feel" what happened and freak out over it.

I can also recite things back to you instantly, like a phone number, bank details, address etc that I've just been told. I'll remember it perfectly. Just don't ask me for it again the next day as I'll have forgotten it by then 😂

Maxhatime · 03/06/2025 21:11

Relocating - I’ve lived in about 8 different cities and towns including two abroad, as an adult and seem to adapt very well.

Writing books - I’ve written 5 books alongside full time work, that have all been traditionally published.

Poppish · 03/06/2025 21:12

I can wiggle my ears by just using the muscles in my head, one at a time or both together. My kids find it amusing!

MovingSwiftlyOn · 03/06/2025 21:16

Flamboyantly undressing. I can pull down my knickers, take one leg out, spin the knickers on the other foot, flip them into the air and catch them. Every. Single. Time. Grin

TomatoSandwiches · 03/06/2025 21:17

I'm a good mimic, voices, body language, signatures, art work.
I'm also good in an emergency, it feels like time slows down and my brain just knows what to do but give me a 3pm appointment and I can't get a thing done before that and neep to nap after it.

Taytocrisps · 03/06/2025 21:19

Probably an odd one, but I'm very good at reading the room. Put me in with a group of strangers and I'll quickly establish who gets on well and who doesn't, and I'll pick up on any nuances in the conversation.

I'm also really good at guessing what's going to happen next when I'm watching a TV programme. I think that's probably an age thing though - when you've lived long enough, you can sort of predict what people will do, even fictional people.

I make really good chilli.

Independently move either eye in any direction.

what's your secret to making new friends? I suck at relocating.

Fiver555 · 03/06/2025 21:25

I can find lost shiny things very easily. A friend dropped a ring into a pile of rubbish off the top of a castle in France once. In the dark. In the morning, she and I went back, and amazingly I spotted it. I often spot coins in the street or earring backs in the playground at school that everyone else has just passed over.

Same. I've lived in Frankfurt, Dublin, NYC, Boston and Charleston. Relocating is no joke.

I've been published too. 3 books, internationally 😀

  • Reverse & parallel parking.
  • Peeing my teens off by saying good morning 🤣

I can do 50% of this list! I also pee them off with my terrible parking though 🤣

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 03/06/2025 21:27

Parallel parking. It was essential when I learnt to drive in London, although not actual part of the driving test at the time.

Driving.

I’m a very experienced, confident & safe driver. I have done a number of track days on which I have been taught to drive high-performance cars at their limits in both the dry & wet. On the road, this gives me the confidence to drive fast & safely down country lanes, overtake slow divers at the first hint of a gap, drive in other countries etc.

And yes, I do drive a BMW. An M440i, to be specific.

at least it's not an Audi 😁

Lollylolo · 03/06/2025 21:36

Take my contacts out with one hand without a mirror (the optician is both fascinated and horrified when I do this at lens check ups)
Type really really fast without looking at the keyboard with minimal mistakes
Recognise most birds in flight from their shape and recognise most UK bird song (I am a bit of a nature dork)
I am a good driver/parker

Track days do not promote road manners.

You'd be good as an Apache helicopter pilot then!

Writing.
Building a rapport with animals.
Inventing a decent meal out of any old random stuff left in the fridge.
Mixing cocktails.

Also, and perhaps most importantly, I’m a spectacularly good shag.
