Sudoku what a waste of time.
Home made custard cant make it at all even reading the how to make it still fuck it up somehow.
Pancakes dont get me started i just have to buy them.

I'm going to go with languages. Considering I've lived in Czech, Holland, Portugal, Spain, Morocco and France and was with my Polish ex for nearly a decade I have maybe a handful of words from all those languages. It just won't stick in my head!

The secret of successful poached eggs is to use VERY FRESH eggs.
Bring your water to the boil, in a pan or frying pan, turn the heat down, crack each egg in slowly and carefully (or crack into a dish or mug first and slide into the water carefully and slowly. Turn the heat off, put a lid on your pan and leave them alone for about five minutes or so (cooking time depends on the size of the eggs). Don’t stir, agitate or otherwise move water or eggs. Lift out with a slatted spoon and drain off any water onto kitchen roll.

However, I cannot dance, despite several courses of lessons.

Braids. I watched 1000 YouTube videos but just couldn’t crack it. DD has beautiful long hair but had a ropey looking pony tail every day for school because I was so useless at doing her hair, and would come home looking like she’d been dragged through a hedge backwards. I can understand the method, but my hands just can’t do it!

Meadowfinch · 03/06/2025 16:02

Relationships with men ! I've yet to meet one who doesn't go 'odd' on me.

polarsystem · 03/06/2025 16:06

Yo-yos. Just how?

IsItWickedNotToCare · 03/06/2025 16:09

Driving... yes very unpopular, I know, but I really tried and managed to pass my test but never really "clicked " or felt able to trust myself behind the wheel. Eventually I gave it up as the anxiety was too much. I do feel it's held me back with choice of jobs and where I can move and I'm also a bit embarrassed about it but that's life I'm afraid, not everyone can do everything....

takehimjolene · 03/06/2025 16:13

Using hand signals whilst cycling. I can cycle quite well but the second I remove a hand from the handle bars to signal I lose all control of where the bike is going and fall off. For this reason I only ever cycle on off-road cycleways.

French plaits in hair. Have watched videos, seen it done, been guided through how to do it but just can't. I am also incapable of making any other sort of ponytail/plait look neat. Luckily my DH is a master of such things so when DD had long hair she always had lovely neat hair when she arrived at school etc.

Following instructions when buying something new.

Knitting. It looks so easy. It blows my mind.

HeartandSeoul · 03/06/2025 16:36

To all of you saying that you struggle with knitting/crocheting, please don’t give up!

I tried for a number of years to get the hang of crocheting, but it just wasn’t going well. The first lockdown afforded me the time to sit down a dedicate time to it, and I finally ’got’ it! I made a blanket for my parents, and I’m now on my 8th or 9th blanket!

I do think that people either master crocheting OR knitting, but rarely both (I’m not saying this isn’t always the case, but I’ve heard so many say they can do one with ease, but can’t do the other).

Learning song lyrics. Remembering song names. The brain networks between words/text and music just don't seem to be there. Have never come across anyone else like this.

Hello, yes this is me! So many of my favorite songs ever, could barely tell you a word of the lyrics.
I would love to know why it is. The only thing I've got is that my memory is very visual - I could tell you what someone was wearing when they performed it on Top Of The Pops but not a clue what they were actually singing.

Me too. DH insists on playing song games like 'name a band/song with a place name in their title' or 'name a band/song that references xyz' and I'm utterly crap. I'm sure he only does it because he knows he's going to win.

Weirdly though I'm the one that plays music all the time (he never does) and I can sing along to all the lyrics, I just don't retain them when the song isn't actually on!

Curls with a tong and blow drying hair the way the hairdresser does it.

Crunchymum · 03/06/2025 18:55

I cannot blow up nor tie balloons.

I cannot untangle anything beyond a simple knot (although this is probably more to do with patience than ability)

I cannot picture characters or places or visualise anything descriptive at all when I read books. I read every night though.

I can't drive.

Yorkshire puddings. Mine are always a disaster. I'm not much good at real gravy either; luckily DH makes fantastic gravy and I can live with frozen yorkshires.

I have a failsafe recipe for you. Get two identical glasses. Crack 2 eggs into a glass. Fill next glass to same level as the eggs come to in the glass with plain flour. Pour flour into a bowl. Pour milk into the flour glass to the same level as the eggs. Whack both eggs and milk into flour bowl and whisk. Heat oil in dishes on a hot temperature (over 220°) until very hot. Pour in Yorkie mix into dishes with oil and shut oven until the your Yorkies are cooked. Whenever that might be. Normally about 20mins.

Computers ugh. Algebra.

familyissues12345 · 03/06/2025 19:12

Part of my job - I’m just able to wing it, or use notes if needed. I just can’t seem to take it in, it’s like a total mindblock BlushGrin

pecanpiee · 03/06/2025 19:12

What a lovely uplifting postI really love how as well as sharing our struggles, people are actually helping each other out and sharing ideas of how to overcome them.I

BlueEyedBogWitch · 03/06/2025 19:13

Poaching eggs.
Making bread.
Making meringue.

I’m a decent cook otherwise.

I can’t make barre chords on the guitar either.

TheChosenTwo · 03/06/2025 19:15

Fucking excel!!
I’d love to be competent in all its vast array of functions and purposes but I only need mostly basic spreadsheets for work so I’ve never really needed anything beyond that even though it could be handy for things. I don’t use it for all it’s worth 😂

I have an ex boyfriend who was fairly rubbish in most respects except he taught me to make a perfect Yorkshire pudding.

The trick is to get the muffin tray really, really hot before you add the mixture. You have to take everything out of the oven (while your roasted meat is resting or whatever) and crank it way up, like 250 or even higher. Put your muffin tray in, with a generous puddle of olive oil in each well. Meanwhile make the mixture in a jug (I can't remember the ratios but you can look them up). Then, quickly, pour the mixture into the wells and stick it back in. It cooks really quickly like a minute or two (watch through the glass and be delighted).

Edit, maybe it's longer than 2mins, I never time it, I just watch it! But when you do it XBF's way it's definitely way quicker than the 20min in the method upthread. The trick is really, really hot. Even 300C.

Hazeltwig · 03/06/2025 19:21

Raising one eyebrow at a time. All my family can do it, but not me😢

Juggling.

happydayzahead · 03/06/2025 19:27

Cooking rice. Absolutely cannot do it. Microwave rice all the way!
