Just that really…
Wondering if my engagement is beyond the average! Google said 15 months which doesn’t seem long to plan a wedding to me!

Coconutter24 · 02/06/2025 18:41

3 years and 1 month! Gave us time to save up and find a venue we really wanted

JudithOnHolidayAgain · 02/06/2025 18:41

Met 3rd Jan 2004
Engaged 29th Feb 2004
Married 28th Aug 2004

Still married😁

VegQueen · 02/06/2025 18:41

About a year. It’s definitely enough time to plan a wedding.

TwoLeggedGrooveMachine · 02/06/2025 18:41

Engaged October 96 and married September 97 ax as the venue we wanted had availability then. I didn’t get a traditional proposal but I knew DH wanted to marry me from very early on but we were at uni so waited a bit after we graduated. We chose a ring when we were ready to plan the wedding. I’m glad we were getting married in pre social media days as it was all so easy to plan. Wedding venue first, then somewhere to eat, wedding vehicles (we had a 1920s bus for the guests), photographer was DH’s school friend and an elderly family member made the cake (fabulous enough to brag about at the WI). It seems much more complicated now with photo booths and sweet trollies, street food vans etc. We were the first of our friends to marry so nothing to compete with.

12 months. August bank holiday to August bank holiday

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 02/06/2025 18:43

15 months, but we were buying a house during this time as well so was all a bit mad.

Btowngirl · 02/06/2025 18:44

5 months but we eloped!

jammiedodgerfriday · 02/06/2025 18:45

First marriage:
Engaged May 2011
Married October 2016
Separated September 2017
Divorced September 2019

Second marriage
Engaged January 2022
Married September 2022

It took so long the first time cos me and my exH kept breaking up and getting back together.
I was certain the second time round that I’d bagged a keeper so we wanted to get married ASAP. Just a registry office do with 30 guests.

annonymousse · 02/06/2025 18:48

6-7 years then we eloped. The engagement was a commitment but we weren't ready to make it legal so we waited until we were comfortable taking the final step. Second time around for both of us and we both have scars from our first marriages.

Proudofitbabe · 02/06/2025 18:49

15 months! Was ideal!

Chasingsquirrels · 02/06/2025 18:51

1st marriage: engaged about 4 years after we got together, married about 3 years after that, separated 10 years later.

2md marriage: engaged about 6 years after we got together (I always said I wouldn't remarry, he asked me a number of times and I said no, then I decided I wanted to be married to him, so I asked him amd he said yes), married 5 months later, he died 9 months after we married.

vincettenoir · 02/06/2025 18:51

Five months and I had a big, fancy wedding. If you can be flexible about venue you don’t need a lot of time.

ramonaquimby · 02/06/2025 18:02

6 months
engaged at xmas
married in summer

Similar for me, except engaged in the summer, married at Christmas.

Gundogday · 02/06/2025 18:53

About 15 months. Most people got married with eighteen mintgs. Three year engagements didn’t really happen.

Also, everyone got married in one of the local churches, and chose one of the hotels for their reception, so you could be going to the same venues several times in one summer (and no one had a hissy fit that someone copied their wedding).

RampantIvy · 02/06/2025 18:54

We didn't have an engagement. We decided to get married in the September, then got married the following July. So it was 10 months.

I don't understand people who get "engaged" with no intention of ever getting married TBH.

CatsorDogsrule · 02/06/2025 18:55

4 months between meeting and marrying. Engaged after 2 weeks, so 3.5 months. Still happily married after 15+ years.

Confusedmermaid1 · 02/06/2025 18:56

2 years almost to the day.. I wanted an autumn wedding and we needed to save for a fairly big wedding (100 to the day, DH has a huge family and likes them all 😂) so a year wasn’t enough for us but we definitely didn’t need 2 really other than because we were set on the time of year

CMOTDibbler · 02/06/2025 18:57

15 months - it would have been less but we needed it to align with school holidays for my mum

Feelingstrange2 · 02/06/2025 18:57

Together 14 months and bought a house and got engaged at the same time. This was the sort of era you tended to get engaged if you were living together (late 80s/early 90s)

Married 14 months later (to get the date we wanted).

What's the difference between being engaged and "having an engagement"? You decided to get married, so you were engaged, then you got married. I don't understand what you mean. Not being snarky, I really don't understand.

itsonlyjoan · 02/06/2025 18:58

15 years lol was married last oct been engaged since dec 09

rightoguvnor · 02/06/2025 18:59

We didn’t have a traditional engagement but we got our first mortgage together at 21 so I suppose that’s when the decision to be life partners was taken.
Five years later we suddenly decided we should get married. Six weeks later the deed was done.
its been 33 years so I suppose it’s working out but we’ll see…

AutumnVi · 02/06/2025 18:59

11 months

WFHmutha25 · 02/06/2025 19:02

Didn't bother. There's literally no point.
