Do you clean your house in a specific order?

I mean when you deep clean, not tidying. My mum came today to help me clean because I'm pregnant.

I start with whatever is worst and then work my way to mine and DPs room. I always finish with our room because it’s the least bad and I can shower and get my nice pyjamas on, finishing on a thrilling high.

My mum cleans starting at the top room on the right hand side of the house (top right hand corner) and work round and down from there. She’s done this in every house she’s ever lived in, and she said “clean from top to bottom, top of the house to bottom of the house”.

I’m just curious if you have a set order and if you do why.

Kitchen, bathroom ( which is downstairs) , living room, bedrooms. I do the kitchen and living room daily. I do a deep clean of the bathroom about twice weekly( spray and wipe daily) and bedrooms about once a week).

I don’t do a regular deep clean as such, apart from washing all our curtains once a year, but we have a cleaner who comes every other week to do our 2 bathrooms and downstairs loo plus either the lounge / cleaning windows / something she can do in 30 mins.
Otherwise, I try and hoover the whole house at least once a week, downstairs one day, upstairs another. Kitchen floor / dining area daily. Kitchen gets wiped round, dishwasher daily etc. Washing on every day and pack a clean pile away at least once a week.
Dusting bedrooms I probably don’t do as often as needed. Change beds every week or 2.
Bookshelves / cleaning out cupboards / fridge etc I do if and when - I try to get as much dust off everywhere with hoover!

OMG I do the same as your Mum! I didn’t realise it was a thing though 😂

So I start upstairs, do DD’s room, then DS’s then ours, then bathroom (cleaner and bleach work whilst I’m cleaning the 3 bedrooms) then landing, then down the stairs into the hall. Then living room, dining room, kitchen. So round in a circle on each level.

Master bedroom.
Strip bed
Vacuum bed
Wipe down- wardrobe, skirting, furniture, door and frame.
Wax furniture
wax arm chair
make bed
vacuum
close door on way out

Rinse and repeat Give or take for every room.
Kids bedroom
Bathroom
Hallway
Downstairs
Downstairs hallway
Living room
Kitchen

It usually takes me a day and a half.

BlueRin5eBrigade · 16/06/2025 19:52

Oh i also close each door as I go. It's like done, tick and close the door.

Never really thought about this, but I do mine like a clock face, upstairs bathroom is in the centre of the house, like 12 o clock. I start there and work around, so half of upstairs, then down, back up to other half
once I’m past 6 o clock I know I’m halfway there!
(makes sense in my head, sounds ridiculous written down)

I have literally never deep cleaned my house. Life is too short. It’s always clean enough, and never sparkling clean. But DD and I have lots of fun and spend minimal time on chores.

I have to start from upstairs
Bedrooms
Bathroom
Hallway
Living Room
Kitchen

i can’t do it in any other order, it just feels wrong 😂

I think I must be odd. I clean kitchen first, then tidy living room and all other rooms. I then dust all rooms, clean all bathrooms except en-suite shower cubicle. I them hoover and mop downstairs floors. Then mop family bathroom. I go for a shower and clean en-suite when I am in it. Mop en-suite floor. I open doors and windows whilst I clean to air it out.

I mostly clean my small house in a few hours once a week. I am tidy and hoover each day. Kitchen surfaces daily. I clean in my pjs so I can then get clean.
