Turning 60...

My big 60 is September next year. I want to celebrate.

I have 6 dc ranging from 30 to 14, some have partners, I have 2 grandchildren and in September next year were doing a big family holiday coinciding with my actual birthday.

As of this September, going into my 60th year, I'd like to do something fun, maybe a little different each month. It could be a short trip, an activity. I'm open to anything. I'm pretty fit, not a huge fan of heights but I could face that maybe?

My mum died over 40 odd years ago, when she was only 40. I consider myself fortunate to be healthy, financially stable and able to live a fulfilling life.

So hit me with your suggestions. Have you done anything exciting as an slightly older woman ( or younger ).

Thank you

I don’t know if you have seen this thread about 60 things to do in your 60th year.

It might give you some ideas.

Personally I would find it quite hard to do so many different things, in just one year (and then there is the cost). When my husband was 60 he picked six things he would like to do that year.

His were

  1. Adventure - “Big holiday” - We toured around Canada for over nearly a month.
  2. Skill - Relearnt to play the piano (he had some lesson when he was younger 7-10) but has really enjoyed playing again. He is currently taking his grade six exam.
  3. Challenge - He also doesn’t like heights but decided to go on a Hot Air Balloon Ride (and much to my surprise enjoyed it).
  4. Volunteered - He took on a mini- voluntary role at a local charity, which he still does.
  5. Health and Wellness - My husband is very fit but decided to go on a meditation course (which was semi-successful).
  6. Family - He decided to research his family tree which brought his closer to distant family members.

We have a friend who is 70 and there challenge is to visit all seven continents in one year! This is however, quite expensive.

Good Luck with whatever you decide to do.

Has anyone done this? I'm currently compiling a list - my 60th looming fast in November I quite like the challenge for the year, a mix of things c...

Oh God that reminds me of when my best friend bought me 60 really cheap things for my 60th. It was the most awful experience! I took almost all of them to the charity shop the next day. She thought it was a great idea. I had bought her a Vivienne Westwood handbag for her birthday so was really pissed off.

Oh dear, that made me chuckle though.
