60 things in your 60th year ...

ValleyPalley · 19/08/2024 21:34

Has anyone done this?

I'm currently compiling a list - my 60th looming fast in November

I quite like the challenge for the year, a mix of things cheap mostly with a few experiences thrown in.

What would you suggest?

So far on my list, which is totally random ....

Peter pan afternoon tea at the Shard
Learn how to draw a decent eye - I can't draw
Plant a decent amount of bulbs in the garden
Visit dungeness with my teen for a photo session
Same for skomar - pelicans
Buy a fidget ring
Help my teen pass their driving test
Declutter my wardrobe
Overhaul the flowerbed
Weekend away with siblings and parent- English heritage site or port lymph
Invest in premium bonds
Have a weekend away with teen
Declutter kitchen
Family weekend somewhere great with doggy
Plant vegetables
Buy figit rings

That's a good idea, it's mine too in Oct, not that I really want to think about it!

I tried to teach myself to crochet this year but it was harder than I expected.

NewName24 · 19/08/2024 21:53

Visit places - be that Lands End, capital cities, cathedrals, sports grounds

Walk - be it up a mountain, or along a coastal path

Change habits and walk more - start with a target of 30miles a month if you don't move much or obviously much more if you already do.

Try some new food (be that recipes if you like cooking, or restaurants if not)

Try a new activity - be that crochet or sky-diving, singing or car mechanics

DramaAlpaca · 19/08/2024 22:45

Ooh, great idea! I've already turned 60 so I've ten months to cram everything in. I'm basically placemarking for ideas while I think of my own list.

BlessThisMess · 19/08/2024 23:03

My 60th is on Saturday. All these things sound exhausting! I love the idea but I've got enough on my plate with 45h work per week and trying to move house and get divorced. I'll have to think of a list of very undemanding things!

AdaColeman · 19/08/2024 23:31

A few things I'd like to do...

Go to Vienna for a waltz class
Try a new food every month
Go to Paris just for lunch
Plant a tree
Learn to play a Christmas carol on an instrument (the treble recorder?)
Learn how to do origami
Knit a Christmas crib
Learn how to play bridge

Good luck with your list @ValleyPalley !

wizzler · 19/08/2024 23:39

Swim in the sea
Feed a lamb
Walk an alpaca

I agree with this, in truth.

60 things is considerably more than one per week, especially if we assume you might have other, family plans at Christmas, or there might be a wedding to fit in, or that you might be ill one week, even before fitting in 'normal life'.

I get writing a bucket list of '30 things I want to have done before I hit 30' when you are 23, but most of the suggested ideas (including mine, in my previous post) would take FAR longer than the 4 or 5 days you'll have for each one, even if that were all you were doing for the year. Obviously those still working, or just having other commitments in life, even finding 60 days for things you could do in a day, could be a challenge. (There aren't 60 weekends in a year, for example)

GrimDamnFanjo · 19/08/2024 23:53

Hmm, researching some food i ve never eaten?

SweetBirdsong · 20/08/2024 00:01

What is a fidget ring?!

Treesinthewind · 20/08/2024 00:03

Need to do this but 50 things before I'm 50. Failed to do 40 before 40 😂

bergamotorange · 20/08/2024 00:05

This sounds way too much for me, why would you set yourself so many targets and jobs?? This is not a good birthday present!

Meadowwild · 20/08/2024 00:10

I love yours OP. I turned 60 earlier this year and tried to come up with 60 things but stalled at about 15. But I hadn't thought of adding things like 'buy a fidget ring' (and I want a fidget ring!) so that is going on the list.

A few of mine are challenges - doing a long walk locally, completing a big craft project, reading at least two books a month. But as PP have said - 60 things is a lot, so most of them could/should be small easy things that give us pleasure that we don't always get around to doing.

Have a craft evening with friends
Have a BBQ with friends or family before the summer is out
Swim outdoors
Try face yoga
Handwrite a letter to a loved one
Have a classic seasonal walk each season: in autumn walk to where the leaves are turning gold and red, or go blackberry/chestnut gathering. In winter go for a frosty walk on a crips day or walk in the snow. In spring, find a wood where bluebells grow or primroses line the path or there are cherry trees in flower. In summer a walk on the beach or along a river, watching the dragonflies and butterflies.

ValleyPalley · 20/08/2024 08:14

Ok everyone I agree 60 things will be exhausting 🤣

Maybe I should pare it down to 6 quality things through the year?

Though I do love @GreenSedan suggestion of 60 hours of volunteering ! Something other than a charity shop though .......

alongtimeagoandfaraway · 20/08/2024 08:25

i wish I’d thought of that! I have one month left until I turn 61 but in that year I’ve done a Master’s degree, become a grandmother and taught myself to knit again (after 50 years) so I could make a gift for my new grandchild. Oh and I danced in Vienna! Not 60 things but it’s been a good year!

HelenWheels · 20/08/2024 08:27

visit all the churches in the area?
